Green's best game this year, and maybe one of the best of his career- He played Medhurst very very smart.
The thing which struck me was that we seemed to have done our research about Freo, and come up with a pretty good plan for our defenders- with a forward line with Medhurst, Farmer and Croad as the supposed main scoring threats, I think our guys figured early on that they were going to be susceptible to an attack of the aggros if things didn't work out. Hunter, Green and Carroll played those guys to perfection, and after every single passage of play, they were right there getting in their faces. Halfway through, Croad, Medhurst and Farmer seemed to have forgotten about the game and were too busy going at it. The thing is, a defender who picks fights, niggles, and gets on people's nerves is a useful player- they're there to negate, and if a forward is more worried about his man than the ball, then they've done their job. Meanwhile, a forward who gets aggro and picks fights is probably not doing his job- again, his job is to worry about getting the ball and kicking goals, not getting up his defender's nose.
For that reason, I can't help but think that the dockers really need to use Croad (who was constantly picking fights and hitting people with cheap shots after contests) as a CHB. In the forward line, he's a useless, mental liability, as a defender in the Hardwick mold, he might actually be worth his place in the side.
