Unfortunately I barely get above 4Mbps speed in my area, a massive dead zone for internet and mobile (struggle to get 4G and live less than 20min from CBD. Kayo struggles with HD quality for me, but if I Chromecast from my tablet with SD quality it’s fine and doesn’t buffer. Until I get NBN sometime this year I have little alternatives. Anyone know how to use a mobile hotspot with Chromecast?

Or any cheap s905/912 box and run corelec or librelec kodi from sd card or flash to the box. Can spend under $50. Or a Vodafone TV ($70-80 and you don't need to be with Vodafone) or Mi Box S running kodi or wbmc are next best. Can get a Mi Box S from: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/172511972133.
Bit of help if you dont mind mate, I'm a bit of a ludite. I was going to get the Mi Box but it doesnt seem to have an ethernet LAN

do you reckon I'd be able to pair up my PS4 controller with it, I want to play some retro NES games.

Correct. No LAN port. If into gaming (even just retro stuff) get a NVIDIA shield. Around double the price but will do everything you want no issues. Also if using Kodi add on for Kayo it can automatically change the refresh rate and resolution of your TV to match the content.

you should be able to tell it to look for a hotspot by pressing the Chromecast button, then tapping 'nearby devices'

Telstra have $5 offer at the moment for new Kayo customers who have a Telstra service, either mobile or internet. You get 2 months for $5 instead of $50m(minus the 14 days free). After the 2 months you roll onto a $25 paid subscription or you can cancel anytime during the 2 months and continue using it until up until 2 months end.

I just signed up and it worked seamlessly.

Just jumped on that, thanks! I had Kayo initially during the free summer trial periods, was very impressed, but didn't need it over February. $5 will get me through to Round 7, then the next cheap offer will be available by then!

Cheers again.

Thanks for that mate - it was almost too easy to just create a second account. I used a different email address, and I had the $5 added to my Telstra bill (so no credit card). All my other details were the same, so they haven't done a great job with matching up identifiers to stop people creating a 2nd account.

Anyone watching the grand prix? Imagine a fair amount of streaming and its showing, keeps dropping out of HD constantly like every 10-20 seconds.

Kayo have to lift their game and provide some decent bandwidth for the AFL season....

Instead of watching the live channel have you tried clicking on the event and fast forwarding up to where you're nearly live. I'm watching it delayed I think (I'm on lap 23) and it's been perfect. Kayo may not be the best platform if you absolutely want to watch live. I'm more than happy to watching things 5 or 10 minutes behind if it means smoother viewing in HD. So many Eagles games start when I'm at work usually anyway so I'll be watching delayed a lot.

I reckon there's a reason Kayo have hidden the live channels all the way down the bottom, it probably puts a lot of strain on their bandwidth to stream live to everyone.

I watched for a little while and didn't have any problem.

Notice to all: if you are experiencing issues, unless you have evidence to the contrary, the problem is at your end. It is not a Kayo issue.

With Australia's internet that's a bit like telling the Jews in the concentration camp the problem is at their end.

I think they've been found out a bit this weekend with the Grand Prix and the start of the NRL. There was a pretty major outage for about 20 minutes last night when the Dragons game and Victory game were about to start; it's been pretty s**t for me this arvo watching the GP as well. Even hitting pause for 2 minutes to try and negate buffering hasn't worked - it's not been downgrading quality for me today, it's just been buffering for up to a minute at a time. I'm predicting a nightmare next week with the NRL and AFL on at the same time. At least I'm expecting it though, so hopefully it won't be so enraging when it happens.

What rubbish. I remember people saying the same thing on twitter during the World Cup. Because a minority of users weren't experiencing issues they - and Optus - were trying to suggest it was an issue at the users end.

A week later and Optus were back donating games to SBS. Unfortunately we don't have that option come AFL season.

edit: the last 10 minutes of the grand prix were ******* unwatchable

90% of the F1 was fine for me but constant buffering for the last bit of the race. Rewinding a bit and watching it a couple of minutes delayed helped a bit, but didn't fix it entirely.

But with my shitty internet I'm surprised kayo works as well as it does as often as it does.
