Kayo stream quality

I had a pretty poor experience on Saturday with the Blues v Dogs game on my LG tv. There was a constant loading image showing a percentage on the screen, which was also dimmed, after 5 seconds or so of streaming.

A fix I found was to stream on my phone and use Airplay to connect to the tv - the buffering and loading issues disappeared. Presumably the component used in my iPhone 13 Pro Max is better than the one used by the tv to connect to my home WiFi.

I had the same issue on my LG trying to watch the NBA on Saturday. Apparently only affected the LG interface according to Kayo. Was fixed by Sunday but still pretty bloody frustrating.

Had the same on the weekend with NBA and AFL. Tried some tennis last night and seemed okay, but expect that was out of peak time if that makes a difference.

Very frustrating.

The NBA app was the worst app for the first half of this season too - it wouldn't let me Airplay to my TV but now appears to be allowing it.

Microsoft took over the NBA app this year and seems to have had quite a few bugs.

Plenty of dropouts on my Sony TV.

It doesn't even buffer.. just goes from perfectly fine to error.

Have to exit and re-load the content about twice a quarter.

Painful.
I reckon I got that error message at least 40 times Sunday.

The buffering issues are getting worse by the week, last weekend it was as bad as I can remember it ever being with it being an issue for most games.

Ironically the quality of Kayo's service has gotten worse since they increased the monthly cost, you would think with people paying more that their service would improve instead it has been the opposite.

They probably cut costs and increased revenue as they have enough customers now they don't care

Apple TV 4K. Current download speed test 75Mbps.

Kayo just cycling between HD and SD every 20 seconds. And the HD is 720p. At best.

Junk software
I had the same problem for 18 months or so, but when I accidentally knocked over and broke my LG monitor: model number 32UR500 (4K, 56-61Hz, 3840x2160 pixel, manufactured 09.2023) and replaced it on 23.05.2025 with LG monitor: model number 32U631A (QHD, 100Hz 2560x1440 pixel, manufactured 01.2025), I started receiving perfect Kayo sport, (even with settings>display>multiple display>duplicate these displays), and another monitor attached. I am guessing its the faster refresh rate (100Hz) or the smaller number of pixels or something else that happened when I connected the new monitor.

Unless you include the serial number and the name of the guy who sold it to you, we won’t really have a good idea of what TV you’re talking about I’m sorry

All through those 18 months another member of the household had excellent Kayo
Serial number 501TFSS1H958 from JB HI-FI. I ordered it over the phone from their Brunswick Vic store and it was delivered from anther of their stores within 2 hours by Uber for another $10, which they organised. It cost $359.99 including GST, but I expect you can get it about $100 cheaper elsewhere

On my bargain basement lenovo tablet (serial no : cheapskate) , the Kayo app has terrible lag & glitches. Yet when I open the website version on google Chrome it works OK. As well as Kayo gets I think .

The Android version of the Kayo app is shite. Sometimes the Kayo stream will drop to a sub-HD resolution and won't ever detect that it has the bandwidth for 4K. Restarting the stream or force closing the app doesn't fix it. The only fix I've found is to delete the app and reinstall it. This might work for you as well. I have to repeat this process about every 3 weeks.

Android TV app is garbage too, 4k streams regularly have a stutter throughout the game even with wired ethernet. Apple TV is fine on same network.

I run Kayo app on a low spec Android tablet. No dramas. Run it on Amazon Firesticks. No drama. Run it in Edge browser on decent laptops. No drama. Summary, no problems for me, all on a 50Mb broadband service with no other users in the household.
