Just wondering what peoples thoughts are of Chris Eddy playing,i see he is named but is it realistic for him to play ? Can you risk it in such a big game ?
Fair effort by Chiqaz to get up and play yesterday. When he told me on Friday that he was playing I thought he was talking absolute shit.
Kicked 2 before hurting his knee again, but those 2 goals kept us in front in the first half, so I guess the gamble paid off in a way. He was already having a full reco, so I guess you can't get worse than that. He was keen to contribute though, and just happens to be a few cake-tins short of a bakery so he put up his hand. Hi Chris.

I thought the way our boys went about it for the day was fantastic. Once again we were not really given a chance by many, and even with the players we had missing we had the game in our grasp for more than 3 quarters and probably should've won it.
Some absolutely shocking umpiring during the day though, I think at one point there was 3 free kicks in a row from the centre bounce in the last quarter.....Ruckwork and umpires continues to be a flip of the coin as to what the rules are. Not sure what a ruckman is there to do if he's not allowed to jump at or contest the bounce?

Disappointing to end the season with a loss, and frustrating for us not able to play to watch from the sidelines, but there was a feeling in the rooms after the game that we really had a crack for each other.

Nagambie to take the flag by 30+ points this weekend. Too strong in the middle and forward line.

Enjoy your footy trips.

Thought you boys were a bit stiff not get over the line yesterday Cosby, 16 pts up with 10 mins to go, thought you'd nearly done enough. Credit to Undera though they just kept coming in the last quarter, but agree they had the rub of the green in terms of umpiring decisions particularly when the game was up for grabs.

I went to the game sharing the opinion with many that Lancy might just fall short, particularly because you were missing some important players due to injury. Great effort to get as close as you did with 5 changes from the previous week. Thought Howard did a fantastic job on La Porta who didn't really have an impact for most of the day before taking a hanger in the final stages of the last quarter & steering through the goal that put Undera in front.

Godsmark is the ace up Undera's sleeve if it is to win next week. He pushed forward yesterday to kick important goals throughout the game, including the sealer from the boundary line.

I ventured up the hume on Saturday for the first time in a few months and saw a great game of footy. Just a few observations from the day though:

1. Well done to Undera - never gave in and ran the game out well
2. They had plenty of help from the umpires - one in particular. Cosby is spot on with the centre bounce infringements - where was he plucking them from? It seemed like he was doing everything in his power to get the Lions across the line - free kick count was 33-18 for the day and 9-3 in the last term the Lions way, but don't want to take anything away from them - you still have to be in a position to win it and they were.
3. The goal Godsmark kicked from the boundary line was from a mark taken two feet through the points, and snatched out of his teammates arms - there's no way that was a mark, but he finished off the goal nicely to seal it.
4. Murch needs to improve their changeroom facilities if they're fair dinkum about ever hosting a GF again, and get someone with some maths skills to run their scoreboard (the old one)
5. Lancaster should never have played Eddy - didn't see out the first half and on a hot day you need 21 fit players - nto worth the gamble. He kicked two but would they have got more out a fit player in 4 quarters?
6. LaPorta is a gun - great grab and goal after being well held all day to put the Lions in front.
7. Where was Undera's Chapman, Campbell and Pell? Are they all injured or what becuase surely they're all in the best 21.

Sounds like a few sour grapes because of "another" 3rd place for Lancaster.

As a neutral spectator I believed the umpiring was spot on as the men in white rewarded Undera for being first in for the ball and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out you can't make contact above the shoulder in a ruck contest hence the 3 frees in a row in the last quarter.

Looking forward to a close Grand final with my pick Undera by a goal in extra time.

I too was there and am a neutral supporter and if you think that for one minute those two umpires had any idea on how to umpire in a final than you have no idea about the game. Soft ticky touch frees were paid all day, these guys need to stop watching AFL on telly and just let the boys play. I'm not suggesting Lanky deserved to win but they were blatanly let down by the umps on Saturday.
Reminded me of another close final at Murch a few seasons ago when the umpiring was terribly one sided. It cost a team a premiership that year.

Umpiring shouldn't change whether it be a home and away or finals, so if you believe these umpires don't know how to umpire a final then maybe they shouldn't be umpiring at all!. You didn't happen to be playing in that final at Murch a couple of years ago?

Just in regards to your 2nd point, I don't think a free kick count is an accurate indication to an umpiring performance... Simply, if 1 team gives away more free kicks, it is not the umpires fault if both teams do not receive a similar number of free kicks. Nor his job to make sure this happens.
Part of your 4th point, while correct, probably deserves overlooking. There were about 3 or 4 12-14 year old kids running it. I'm not even sure if they were from Murch, or if the Murch officials even knew they were up there.
Also, your 7th point: not sure on Chapman (may have been ommited for a fitter player as Murch is a big ground). But Pell hasn't played since round 13 (18th of July) because of a broken hand. Be good to see him back this week regardless of which grade he plays. Finally, Campbell was suspended for 1 week for a late hit in a marking contest on Matthew Stokes of Stanhope in the 1st Semi last weekend. All 3 will play this weekend for the club.

I was there as a neutral supporter that year, and it was bordering on cheating the way that game was officiated, in all honesty.

Just on Saturdays game, I knew someone would come out and have a swing at being 3rd placed again, but honestly if anyone else put a team out on the park like we did on sat'd they'd be getting credit for fighting the season out and almost stealing it. Not cheap shots.

Watched the game on Saturday as a neutral supporter as I have a few mates in both sides.Yes the umpires were bad, but I thought they were bad both ways. You would of thought that if Lanky could keep Laporta and Moon to 2 goals for the day they would win easy but not the case. Spiro and Godsmark were the difference and Breen was dominant in the ruck especially at the center clearances. Undera picked 21 fit players which also helped late in the last term.

i was there saturday didnt think the umpires where that bad, but the one that confused me was when hilton of lanky got smacked in the mouth and got a free he then pushed the culprit in the shoulder with limited force and the umpire reversed it and then sent hilton off for the blood rule it was a great game from 2 sides who gave there all

You are joking. I was almost side on to Godsmark. He took the ball before the line and held it across the line, he was the only one who wanted it. That is a MARK! Maybe if Lanky had bothered to get someone on the goal line when then the next goal was kicked it might have been a better result. A three goal lead at three quarter time is a big one to cough up when your opponents had only kicked eight for the day!

Now for some real fun. Which precious clubs decided that they are bigger than the game and voted NOT to give Longwood a shot at the KDFL? Is it better that we have more people disappear from the game and another small town lose its lifeblood? Anyone who has noticed the development on the northern fringe of Melbourne will realise that it's coming Seymour's way in the not so distant future, especially with the Craigieburn Bypass. Maybe if travel is the issue these clubs can join the GVFL or MFL, it might match their ego!

If they get within 10 goals of any KDFL side next year I would be impressed.

For the week leading into the Grand Final this thread has been pretty quiet.

I was just wondering, how early do you have to be to get your car into the ground? Are we talking about 6am sort of thing or along the lines of Friday night.

For Longwood to play the must have thirds and all netball grades. From what I was told from VT people most of there senior players play 2 games a saturday and most of the comittee play reserves to help out. Also the bottom KDL teams would flog them.

I would think the KDL would want clubs to make the league stronger.

nagambie by 21 points this weekend and the only reason i reckon it will be tht close is because of a bloke name daniel godsmark best player in the comp

Why wouldn't you let a club have an opportunity to prove itself? Longwood sits in or on the geographical boundaries of the KDFL. Small towns need their footy clubs. With the demise of the BDFL it's only logical home is the KDFL.

If you are worried about a 13 team comp, I know that the SE PDFL would like another team to join its ranks!

As for the 3rds/Netball issue, have the KDFL have taken a harsh stance on this with Ardmona & Merrigum over the years?

rumours on the BDFL board about Longwood offering a KDFL ruckman $350 a game and a current Euroa on baller $550 a game... peoples thoughts?

Longwood legend Chad Bonney told us at work this morning that Jon Solomon and Adrian Baker were high on the recruiting agenda
