Who?
Obviously you're quite informed about this league and check the draw - It was mentioned that Hodgetts kicked 9 against Merrigum.

Who?
Interesting to see that both Ash Hobbs and Brad Gleeson have lodged clearances to Violet Town, I imagine it is for a one game permit (can anyone clarify) as the GVFL has the bye this week. It should definitely make the Violet Town-Undera game more interesting, seeing as both of them are senior players at Euroa.

They both were at training last night and I was under the impression that they are on for the rest of the year, but I can't say I actually asked, I'm just assuming that. Hope so anyway.... We have a 6ft 2 bloke from Melbourne meant to be starting in the next couple of weeks also (not sure of his name). Plus Ben Ballinger (who broke his scaphoid falling off a ladder just before round 1) should finally get to debut for us in the next 2-3wks hopefully...
In regards to the better players from other teams on the day we played them, here goes:
Lanky: Shane Gemmil, Warren & Roberts (i think, who ever dominates in the backline)
Nag: Vercoe, Morris, Haysoms and Q. Comi
Stan: Can't remember but the backline won them the match in the 2nd half that day
Murch: Milne and Hodgetts
Avenel: Goodwin and the young cheeky fella lookin' for a blue every 5 minutes (not sure of his name)
Rushy: Johnson & A. Clarke, usually Martin plays well but he had a quiet day.
Gig: S. Parker by a mile, R. Myers & T. Snelson
Longwood: B. Hammil and Bourke
Ardy: round 1, can't remember but one guy kicked 4 in the 3rd though
Undera, Tally and Merrigum: Haven't played yet
Was Brad Gleeson the one that started the year at Rushy? If so was he cleared there or just playing on permit?
It only took 9 years, but someone at lanky must've listened to me.Would be a shoe in for the Legends game you'd think....would certainly fit the criteria.
Lancastralia, get it done.
It only took 9 years, but someone at lanky must've listened to me.

Persistence has paid off Cosby...Well Done
And I big well done and good luck to Rudda
I actually think he will be one of the better players if given the chance to shine!
Looking forward to the spectacle!!
Wat a load of shit, get ya facks right before u post.I'm not sure how many people witnessed the thirds game between Murch and Stanhope on Saturday? The game ended in a draw, which was perhaps fitting as the Stanhope kids played very well. Now, without taking anything away from these kids, the umpiring (especially in the last 1/4) was disgraceful and heavily/very noticeably biased towards Stanhope...especially from the umpire who's son was apparently lining up for Stanhope?
This led to a few words being said as they walked off the ground and one of the umpires raising his hands in triumph and pushing a vocal Murch supporter, which isn't what you want from a kids game.
I'd like to hear from others who saw this game and especially some Stanhope people, perhaps with an explanation as to why that umpire was umpiring the way he was/if at all? I don't see how he can pay several free kicks from 100 metres away when the other umpire is right in front of play - each to Stanhope. Report a Murch player for trying to shrug a Stanhope player off, who was holding onto him a long time after he took a mark (I thought that the 50m penalty rule applied here to the bloke being held onto, not a report of the bloke trying to struggle free?) and then pushing Murch 3rds players around after the game then reporting them for abusive language??? if someone can explain any of this to me in a logical manner i will congratulate them.....
I thought it was an embarressment to the umpire, his son and the whole Stanhope club who has a very strong reputation now of having their own, umpire their games, terribly...what made it worse was the president of the league (who, mind you, only seems to turn out to Stanhope games these days) stood by and watched the crap unfold on the field and the resulting flaring of tempers afterwards and did not do a thing...piss poor effort by all involved..

Hank dont no if you have ever played the game but i do agree young milne can play football but he must understand the rules of the game state that you cannot elbow people in the head( delibretly) punch people in the face or run in and drop your kness in their back. The rules apply to every one in our game and that includes any one that plays for Murchison aswell. And he was not the only Murchison player that played outside the rules. KDL people must learn courage on a footy field and strength is putting your head over the ball.
Sat back and watched the 3rds game from start to finish. Both umpires are accreditated, the older fella of the two I haven't seen before and the other lives in Stanhope and has a last name the same as one of the players in the the 3rds so of course that would be where the Murchison people jumped to conclusions saying he had a son playing. Wrong.
The game was a pretty good standard with Murchison looking the better side but Stanhope hung in the contest and came home with a wet sail, helped by some undisciplined acts by Murch players and some umpiring that was to the letter of the law with no backchat taken.
I can certainly see where the Murch players and supporters got frustrated as the umpire has umpired a few 3rds and reserves games involving Stanhope over his time and has sent many a Stanhope player off and paid a fair few 100m penalties against us.
Over time the Coaches of our side have made our players well aware that any backchat wont be tolerated and MOST players adapt accordingly.
The young Murch boys should have realised after the 1st 50 and subsequent 100 that this umpire would not take any backchat whatsoever and that if you did open your mouth and show disrespect to the official then you and your side would be penalised.
So, Yes I agree it can be an advantage for any sides to have an umpire from your town as you know what your going to get before the first bounce and have time to adapt.
Young Milne was a very good player on the day but he was one player who was very undisciplined especially when the game got close, from the reaction of the clubs supporters I can see where he has got his attitude and lack of respect to officials from.
Sorry to single him out but he looks like a kid with real talent that can go places and if he pulls his head in it will only help him, ( hopefully some sane people had a quiet word to him after the game, believe his old man even talked to the umpire in question and didnt have any problems with the way he dealt with the game)
The biggest two problems I found where both after the game when supporters of Murchison berated the officials as they went off, the umpire in question walked straight into the umpires rooms and didnt engage with the crowd. The other umpire who should hang up the boots was in the end just as much to blame as the Murch supporters as he helped incite the crowd by urging them on to abuse him and then even confronted one Murchison supporter and gave him a push in the chest, very ordinary scenes after an underage football game.
The Stanhope players and some supporters weren't angels either, whilst this was happening they were cheering and clapping well done Stanhope as they thought at this stage they had won the game, this didnt help diffuse the situation either.
When we have 40-50 year olds acting like that after an underage football game you dont have to wonder and ask why some teenagers of today are growing up with little respect for their elders.
Hopefully there will be some cool heads and leaders of both clubs who have a word to those involved and make sure they pull their heads in, and the Murch boys are undefeated so they will be playing finals where they will get senior umpires who like Saturday won't tolerate 14 to 18 yr olds showing them any disrespect. Adapt and play footy, I did get told many moons ago that the umpire won't change his decision!!
Well said hank. I also was at the game too and seen first hand what happened, Murch thirds need to pull there heads in. But in saying that what about the game last weeks game against naggas this so called umpire gave thirteen 50m againt Naggas for so called back chat, But when shanhope did it the ball was thrown up.![]()
