Pretty sure l know the bloke you are talking about and can tell you he does not know how much we are spending, he just thinks he does. Yes we are spending more this year than we have in previous years but due to alot of hard work by alot of people for a few years now we certainly can afford to. Also due to a couple of paid players leaving, injuries we have had to others and some at times being unavailable, I can tell you we will spend nothing around the 80k ( not that it is his or anyone elses concern ) The financial future will be strong at VT for years to come guaranted..;) The guys we have recruited are great blokes and well worth the money they get, Im sure all the people in our club would agree...

A'jax .. wipes clean in one go ..eh!
If I may set aside my wheel-barrow of paid players .. the pulse gave a summary at the Longwood Thirsty Fire Drum last Thursd'y night that not only was last week's freezin' Sund'y game one of the tightest district footy games seen for a long time. It was also a benchmark of finals footy coming in the spring time. The Red pulse left to say that Lanca have the power but the VT looked really good on their home turf.
Cheers John Carrot:thumbsu:
ps. I used wheel-barrow as a word which is not as big as galvanised iron, so those who have trouble with understanding other phrases such as .."How much are you going to pay me to play for your Club?" .. can get the drift!;)
Cheers JT from JC

Awesome win by Rushy yesterday. 8 goal to 1 third quarter set the win up. Jungle Martin, who's been a great acquisition, kicked 5 goals in another classy display. Hope to get Drew Clarke back in the next few weeks; massive game against Stanhope coming up, a win would give us a big chance of September action..

Guys, on a serious note I have some news about a guy many will know well. Former girgarre and current merrigum player jack Anderson, copped a heavy whack to the head against lanky on the weekend. (From all reports it was fair,
Just one of those unfortunate clashes in Footy). Jack was airlifted to melbourne as a result, and is in a bad way. He has come out of an induced coma but he has significant spinal and neck trauma. At this stage the Outlook is serious unless his condition improves considerably. Merrigum FC is working on fundraising to support jack and his partner Trish in this tough time. Any assistance from anyone else in the kdfl community would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone, our thoughts are with jack and Trish.

The odds for the kdl flag get regularly put up here by hank1 In light of all the Heath Shaw and Maxwell betting scam in the afl I find it strange that 2 paid lancaster footballers have allegedly bet against themselves for the flag Wouldn’t think the coach and teammates would be happy about that if true Personally I don’t have a problem with players betting on their side but betting against is not on if true:confused:

Lets hope his condition does improve. All the best Jack.

Please keep us posted on the details of fundraising efforts.

Yes, it was a very good 3rd quarter from you guys (the last 10 minutes in the 2nd quarter was pretty good from Rushy as well, especially that great speccy that Martin seemed to take out of nowhere:thumbsu:, I had a good view of it since I was goal umpiring at the time), and although Murch were missing a few players, Hodgetts and Freeman the biggest outs for our seniors, I would have to put you guys slight favourites against Stanhope on the 30th, especially at Rushy.

That loss puts Murch out of contention, unless we have a lot of things go our way, which I can't see, so that only leads Tally and Nagambie the two sides who can sneak into the 5.

The Finals were announced in the paper Monday and the have been alloted to the following clubs.

QUALIFYING FINAL: Saturday, September 3 at Rushworth
ELIMINATION FINAL: Sunday, September 4 at Longwood
2nd SEMI FINAL: Saturday, September 10 at Merrigum
1st SEMI FINAL: Sunday, September 11 at Avenel
PRELIMINARY FINAL: Saturday, September 17 at Stanhope
GRAND FINAL: Saturday, September 24 at Mooroopna

Some interesting choices there for finals, especially the Preliminary Final at Stanhope which you would have to give the home team a big chance of playing in, and the Qualifying Final, which Rushworth has a pretty good chance of getting home ground advantage again (could a Tally, Nagambie or Murchison possibly fill that void if this situation arises ?, or will it go to those clubs no matter what).

It's great that Merrigum, Longwood and Avenel all have a chance to make some extra coin after having such trying years so far, but again the Grand Final is still at Mooroopna, I know I bring this up every year, but I just don't agree with it.

Also, please let us know about Jack Anderson and any fundraising efforts Merrigum might be organizing in the coming weeks, and we all hope he gets well soon.

Only posted about this last week on the MFL forum, other than the Prelim final which is a stand alone game, I can't see why two clubs can't just get allocated for each of the 1st and 2nd weekends and then when it is known who is playing allocate the grounds accordingly. Agree that sides should not get home ground advantage during finals. But it seems to be a given now, Nagambie I think had two finals playing the home sides last year before winning it, definately played Undera at Undera first week anyway, so obviously not something the league is too concerned about.

The problem with allocating Stanhope & Rushy with a final at the moment is that both could finish anywhere from 3rd to 7th therefore they could play in any one of the finals, so if they need to be in concrete now the two finals that each club has been allocated are probably the best chances of them not clashing; Stanhope 5th atm, so to reach the Prelim final would be a big ask
Rushworth 4th and 2 wins behind Undera in 3rd, so will be a big effort to get to the Qualifying Final.

Just wondering how Jack is going as we play Merrigum this Saturday?
If still required our club is happy to help out this week by raising some money for him and Trish... Cheers

That would be a nice gesture from Violet Town, if you guys were able to do that for him (Run a Raffle or a simple blanket appeal during the seniors), and I'm sure that most people would give a bit of $ to help out.

Please tell us if you guys are going to do that Saturday (and tell the local papers too, because it's a nice gesture and it makes for a great story about people helping others) because it would be a credit to your club and the KDFL.

Here are my tips for Round 15.

Stanhope to defeat Ardmona by 87 points.
Violet Town to defeat Merrigum by over 100 points.
Nagambie to defeat Girgarre by 52 points.
Rushworth to defeat Longwood by over 100 points.
Lancaster to defeat Tallygaroopna by 37 points.

Undera, Murchison and Avenel have the bye.

Also, Murchison stalwart, Mick Tuhan is going to notch up his 200th Senior KDFL game for Murchison against Longwood on the 30th of July.

It's a great achievement making it to 200 senior games, when you have done it exclusively at the one club, especially when that one club (Murchison), have not been flushed with ultimate success during the past two decades.

Mick does a lot of great work with the Under 18's, and does a lot of work behind the scenes at Murchison, so congratulations Mick on your great achievement, and I'm sure that you still have a few more years of good football to come.:thumbsu:.

Yes we are doing the gate raffle and the blanket at half time so hopefully the Merrigum guys will help out with the blanket. Good cause so hope everyone can give to help out him and his family.. Cheers

Your suggestion of the "floating draw" for weeks one and two has some merit, (similar to what the AFL has for Round 24, so that they don't have Top 8 sides playing on a Sunday twilight game), because they would still have to get everything ready for that weekend anyway, so I don't think it would cause any great interruption, especially when it looks like this season will see a few places being decided at the last minute.

P.S
I don't any problem having Stanhope and Rushworth hosting finals (both grounds are in good nick, and they have had both their netball courts upgraded), but any way that we can eliminate an unfair advantage, should be looked at.

Speaking of facilities, did anyone read the article in the Shepparton News on Tuesday about the Sports Funding for the City Of Greater Shepparton for the next 40 years ?, Because it had some things that I think are relevant to our league.

Tallygaroopna looks likely to get $50,000 to replace their old changeroom and replace it with a storage shed, and $300,000 to construct 2 Netball Courts and 4 Tennis Courts with Floodlighting, and a new Toilet Block (I wonder why they get the money hmmmmmmmmmmmm:rolleyes:, and more deserving clubs don't, cough cough, Undera, cough, cough Murchison:rolleyes:).

Ardmona could have their ground De-Commissioned, and the Ardmona F.N.C possibly moved to an upgraded John Gray Oval and Mooroopna Rec. Reserve, which really isn't a bad idea if you think about it.

And as far as Undera, Murchison, and Merrigum are concerned, the line is "...They will continue to provide support to their Rec. Reserves committee of management in the service of their community" i.e, 2/5 of f@#k all.

So we look likely to enjoy electric showers at Undera, cold showers and no water pressure in a cramped, decrepit shed, and a netball court that resembles a poorly paved driveway at Murchison, and the danger of not having enough water again for their ground in times of severe drought at Merrigum, for a few years yet.

That's not to say that there aren't some great proposals here, (Improving facilities at Tatura, Deakin Reserve, Mooroopna, Congupna,Dookie, Shepp.East, Vibert Reserve and Aquamoves to name a few), which should be of a great benefit to the ratepayers of Shepparton, but why is Dookie getting their Bowls Club moved to the Showgrounds, and having their facilities improved to all their clubs in the one hub whilst Murchison has lousy, outdated, and falling apart facilities for all their clubs because they're too spread out ?.

And why has there been no proposal to move all the sporting clubs in Murchison to the Rec reserve just like what they've done with Dookie ?.

Although this was going to happen (that was until certain forces at the Tennis Club ruined it for everyone), why can't it be tried again ?(and force recalcitrant clubs to move even if they don't like it, just like what the council are going to some of the Tennis clubs in the area).

I know this is a bit off tangent (and this b!@#c session), but this is quite important to those clubs who are in the C.O.G.S, because this proposal will determine the funding and facility outcomes for some of our clubs for the next four decades, which has an affect on all who play in said facilities.

So, it'll be interesting to see if most of these proposals will get of the ground, because although there are some great things here, but there are others who miss out completely, and that needs to be rectified.

Yes Joe, very interesting write up in the Shep News on Tuesday. The thing I found most interesting was the long term replacement of Deakin with new facilities in Congupna.

So not only have the city boys been given a fair chunk of council funds to date, they'll have their perfectly adequate facilities replaced while the three townships you mentioned have to put up with what they have for the next 20 years:eek:

The follow up story on Wednesday explained that it was adopted by council as a draft and is open for public comment. Hopefully people like yourself provide some feedback to bring about a few amendments.

Love the Tally comment:thumbsu: What's that saying? It's not what you know...

Haha easy there sparra!! VT ain't the first team this year to tag thomo n full credit to the bloke that tagged Him on the weekend but Everyone has a down day. Full credit to H he had done his homework on us!!

Haha mate I haven't even giving it any thought and I won't be losing sleep over it either!! Thanks for the thought but!!

Thanks very much to Violet Town for raising approximately $900 at their home game on the weekend for Jack :thumbsu:
Saturday week the KDL will apparently be holding a round for Jack for all clubs to participate in efforts to help the cause.

Joe very interesting about the Tallygaroopna grants. I'm all for seeing a better split to the West side of the Goulburn!
With council, if you dont ask you don't receive. Obviously Tally have been quite pro-active at lobbying to COGS and good for them. However there are far more deserving clubs of some infastructure spending. Tally have some pretty enviable facilities already.

Also many may have read the Kyabram Free Press last week but will announce it here. Former Merrigum U/18s premiership player, and 23 year old Kyabram player Josh Pell has confirmed he will be returning as a bulldog in 2012, his Dad former Merrigum Premiership player and B&F Greg Pell has also returned at committee level and to help with recruitment.
Through a lot of hard work to turn the fortunes at the club around it's good to see things taking shape to improve for next season and beyond.

any chance a ex-premiership coach may take the reins again next season??

Good to hear, hopefully a few more from in Ky will follow and bolster Merrigum's playing stocks.
There has been a small whisper for a while now about Chopper stepping in to coach them, but at this stage it seems to be all it is, hopefully more comes of it because I'm sure he wouldn't take the job on to go out there and fail, with his contacts I am sure they could get back up to playing finals pretty quickly.

Chopper came and took a training last year. Had the place buzzing. The guy doesn't accept failure, not to the depths that we have been the last few years anyway :p. There's a fair list of guys the club are keen to interview and no doubt Pete would have to be sounded out, through obvious due-dilegence! I have no idea whether he has been talked to. Nor is he considered a monty if he is interested.

I have heard the rumblings from Bomberland that Chopper may be Williams' successor. I would imagine Pete will find a club next year, he must be getting itchy feet by now.
The good thing about Pelly is he does have plenty of mates in Ky, most can play a bit too. He's been doing a bit of groundwork already which is great. No big predictions for 2012 from me though, as you all know there's a few rungs to climb yet! Getting our local guys back has to be priority #1. At least we are busting our ar$es together as a club, for the first time in a while.

Update on Jack. Still nothing much positive to report, he's in the Alfred Hospitals spinal ward and it's about as bad as we hoped it wouldn't be. He is in good spirits still. (For a guy to still try to play footy at 54 tells you what a tough bugger he is.) MFNC are going to organise a sportsmans night/sportsmans auction likely for October. Details will be posted when it is clearer but any input is most welcome. Thanks again.
