Interesting to see in the Shepp News Brad Lowe lamenting a lack of leg speed against Rushworth and then to see that Jye Patten played in the twos.

Haven't got the article, but I'd say there were some more important issues to why we lost before leg speed. The main two being;
1. Skill level/ball use
2. Preparedness to work hard, run both ways/spread, this has nothing to do with leg speed just a willingness to run, if anything, to do more with endurance, but it my book more in the head than anything else.

Coach’s brawl bravery
I’m going to take this chance to applaud Trevor Canobie.
Who’s Trevor Canobie, you ask?
Canobie is Avenel’s under-18 football coach and the man who had the guts to call off a Kyabram District Football League match his side was involved in against Ardmona on Saturday.
I wasn’t at the game.
But match officials were that concerned with an all-in brawl taking place just minutes before half-time they blew the siren early to try to stop it. The tactic worked somewhat, but Canobie had seen enough.
He trudged on to the ground and informed the umpires his side would not be continuing.
Canobie told me yesterday he had a ‘‘duty of care’’ to his players.
He didn’t absolve his players of guilt, either - admitting one of them made a comment he now regrets.
Canobie bravely spoke publicly about the incident- and the bigger picture.
He said incidents such as these were ‘‘sneaking into our league’’ and hoped league executives made an example of this with a ‘‘strong’’ penalty.
KDFL secretary Greg Watson said yesterday a VCFL independent investigator was being appointed to look into what happened.
That’s a good step and one league executives didn’t take after an incident in a senior match in May this year involving Lancaster and Ardmona.
Lancaster player Michael Shaw ended up unconscious for about four minutes despite play being down the other end at the time and went to hospital in an ambulance.
Unfortunately, there was no Trevor Canobie that day.
Lancaster playing coach Paul Burnett said to me at the time: ‘‘It was a nasty incident and something you don’t want to see in football.’’
But Burnett stopped short of saying what happened ‘‘on the record’’.
Lancaster president Matt Carver incredibly told me he wouldn’t pursue a league investigation because Shaw wasn’t seriously hurt.
Unbelievable.
KDFL president Andrew Chittick then said league executives were in a hard position if Lancaster officials didn’t want to request an investigation.
Ardmona officials’ response on both occasions - They didn’t see it.
And we wonder why junior football numbers are dwindling. We sit back and point our fingers at soccer hooligans when there are just as many problems in grassroots football.
Canobie will no doubt cop some unwarranted criticism for his forthright views in the article on page 30 of today’s edition.
But someone had to say something.
Otherwise, this rubbish will just keep on happening - and our game will be much worse for it.

Anyone else hear the assistant coach at the swans is gone also, been a good week at the swans

lve said it before l will say it again remove the common donominator

exactly right.. the league needs to get rid of them. they're a disgrace. had an incedent with them about 4 or 5 years ago in the 3rds, all in brawl before half time, where their players were running off the ground and changing jumpers and running back out... suprise suprise no reports and nothing done about it. weak

With Cox gone, the Swans can now look to the future because there was no future with him in charge. Too good a club to be down for too long. Good luck guys.:thumbsu:

What the hell has happened at Avenel? I had heard there was a verbal between coach and a player at some stage Satdy but hadnt heard anything else. Showy#1 you suggesting Coxy stood down or was "stood down" and Jobby has Gez gone as a results of what Showy is saying??? Surely it's time for all the Avenel blokes currently playing elsewhere to make a pact, get ya a$$es home and help ya club.

And in jaxbac's case perhaps there's an opportunity to dust off the clipboard and help out the Avenel community ;)

Yeah all in the Shepp News today mate

I know the fun police have stopped a lot of news articles getting posted on threads, sadly we dont get the Shepp News in Kilmore :(

And if he got stood down after not attending the ball, then a young Rattray shoulda been banned for life back in about 2000 after being ejected a record 3 times from the one club function :D

Sounds like the straw that broke the camel's back at Avenel. Hopefully they can regroup quickly.

Just a couple of quick questions as I haven't had time to look into it. If Undera lose to both VT and Lancy and Rushy win every game from here on in, can we replace them for 3rd on the ladder?

Also, if Murch get over Stanhope, can they replace them as 5th...? That sounds like it should actually be a cracking game. Do you know the answer Joe Mama and how are the hoppers tracking?

Even if we (stanhope) loose satdy? hope not. they cant pass us and i dont think we can drop out unless we loose to longwood or avenel and we get 4 points for the bye. We have a fair % buffer on the rest of the pack. And i think rushy will finish 3rd.

If Undera lose to Lancy and VT and beat Merrigum and Tally. Rushy will probably go ahead on % if they win all their games. Rushy are 4 points behind Undera and have one game less to play (think this game was shifted to the season opener v Lancy). But what Rushy have going for them is a good %. Undera and Rushy both play VT at their home grounds in what are cracking games, they are the only teams VT have lost to I think.

Thanks VIP and the king.. Interesting, lots of water to go under the bridge, but IF we did get to third it would mean we have to beat VT at home. Then we'd face them in the qualifying final, also at home, the following week... Be interesting to see if the league intervened if this eventuated. Adds credit to Hank's arguement of naming the 2 teams hosting the finals each weekend and then seeing how it pans out so no-one gets a home final.

Also heard on the rumour mill that Chris 'chikaz' Eddy has done his knee and will miss the remainder of the season. A massive shame if so, a cracking bloke, quality player, and as one Lancaster supporter eluded to earlier in the year, probably the most team-oriented player at the bats - they're best chaser and tackler, I think, was the exact quote.

QUOTE]

League won't intervene, as precedent was set last year with Nagambie doing exactly what VT will probably have to do by playing Undera at Undera last game of the year and then following up again in the Qualifying final at the same venue the next week(this time around it will be Rushy at Rushy).

Yeah all in the Shepp News today mate

Paul Cox was suspended for 16 weeks and 2000 dollar fine for man handling a player up here in cairns in 2009, left and headed back to Victoria, now he has been sacked for man handling another player [ his own] going by the paper, surely he will never get a coaching job again.

News I received was 4 weeks, strained lateral. if back for finals that would be 2nd second and a 6 week break.

Any chance big Zappa, pellys co-worker could coach the gum??

Who would he drag out there, ky reserves are down near the bottom

Noticed that Longmore from Tally has just received a lengthy suspension for striking against a Violet Town player. Perhaps the chickens have come home to roost after being lucky enough to take a one week set penalty two years in row (WTF) for striking!

Sadly no Tavis. even if Murch beat Stanhope, they'll still have a 4 point buffer and a much better percentage ( as of right now, Stanhope has 28.53 % over Murch, 38.38 % over Nagambie & 42.74 % over Tally), and they still have the bye up their sleeve.

Murchison can still make it (so can Nagambie & Tally), but they all have to win all their games from here on out and hope that Stanhope drop some games, but considering that after Murchison, Stanhope have Longwood, the Bye and Avenel, I don't think that will happen, especially as Murchison play Lancaster on the last round:eek:.

Anyway, Murch have only themselves to blame because they dropped a game against Violet Town they should've won, and were woeful against Nagambie, but in any case I hope Murch win if only to keep it interesting.

ROUND 17 TIPS
Stanhope to defeat Murchison by 19 points. Despite their form of late, and Murchison having a few handy additions into their side, Murch rarely do well against Stanhope, especially away, and considering that Stanhope need to win to pretty much book their place into the 5, I can't see them dropping this game.

Violet Town to defeat Nagambie by 39 points, even though Nagambie still can make finals, what little flame of hope that they will should be snuffed out by a side that still hasn't secured a double chance.

Rushworth to defeat Avenel by over 100 points. After the week from hell for the Swans, It won't get any better for them at Rushworth, especially with J. Martin kicking bags of goals from everywhere, and the Tigers needing to win big for the percentage, Rushy to do this one in a canter.

Tallygaroopna to defeat Merrigum by over 100 points, Tally should be far too strong for the Doggies here, but the dogs shouldn't lose hope, it will get so much better in 2012, and you can do it by beating the living snot out of Ardmona in the last round in 2011 (If god existed and was fair, this would happen, god I hope it does).

Lancaster to defeat Undera by 14 points. A potential finals match-up at Lancaster awaits for these two sides (who'll be wearing their old jumpers), and although it would be tempting to pick Undera because of some bad news on the injury front for Lanky, I still won't, but this will be a great game to see.

Longwood, Ardmona & Girgarre have earned a rest after a long season.

Good luck to all teams this weekend.
