Encouraging a member of the crowd to hold the ball and slow the play is something that deserves harsh punishment.

I think he should cop at least a week for it and probably two, you cannot have that happen and not a joke. It had a direct impact on the play.

I was there and Keays was telling him to hurry up and give the ball back. If anything he should be applauded for his fair play and sportsmanship. Not Keays fault old mate fumbled the ball a few times, like alot of the crows players all night. Even Bevo said it was slippery!

Hope you enjoyed the painful loss at home.

Vision shows what he was doing and if the AFL are serious about ensuring there isn’t interference by crowd members they’ll give him a slap. He visibly encouraged it at every stage.

Just made the Oskar Baker goal more enjoyable

Why? Watson told fans to go home the other night, and they did.

AFL Media comes out this morning with “Ben Keats was smart and brilliant”

So word up everyone going to game now, you are encouraged to be part of the game. Don’t give the ball back, throw it as far away as you can, hide it under your seat, the AFL salutes you.

It was smart, for sure.

But kinda in the same way that people say John Howard was a 'great politician'.

Scamming vulnerable people over the phone to buy you gift cards from Coles is also smart.

It's kind of a backhanded compliment to say he's smart for doing it.

It was smart, but it's also clearly against the spirit of the game. Any game for that matter.

The AFL Media thinking its 'smart' to act clearly against the spirit of the game tells you everything you need to know.

The AFL media thinking is an oxymoron

Should be given a pay bump for giving us a laugh at triggered sissies like you.

There should be a penalty to individual supporters to determine more brazen attempts to interfere with the play. What we saw though wasn't anywhere near what the threshold should be, comfortably falls into the category of "just one more thing you have to deal with, playing in front of a hostile crowd" and the sort of thing you see in plenty of other sports.

Existing time-wasting rules are sufficient for this. I don’t have the wording in front of me but I believe the phrasing is something like “deliberately/unnecessarily delays play”.

50 metre penalty as soon as Keays instructed the spectator to hold onto it.

Would have been a funny one-off moment still but then nicely stamped out for the future.

It’s an interesting introspective case study as a fan though. If I was on the boundary and a Lions player was telling me to hold onto it, I can’t say for certain what I would do. I probably would…

I've actually thought about that during the week.

That guy likely has walked around all week with his chest puffed out like he's a hero who just got 150 SuperCoach points for his beloved club and did the fanbase proud. When Keays gave him the thumbs up, he would have felt like Darren Jarman in the last quarter of the '97 GF.

But I don't know if I'm that guy. It's just not me.
