He is 20yo in his 3rd season. Right now he is the 3rd highest rated general forward in the AFL in 2025. But it is tight between the top 3(Curtis and surprisingly, but impressively, Ben Long the other 2.)

Commentators falling over themselves to praise P Dangerfield this season. Dangerfield is also a general forward and 20yo Humphrey is rating above him to almost deathly silence from the commentariat.

Let's have a look why Humphrey is going a LOT better than most people think...

1. He averages 17.4 disposals. That is ranked 7th amongst general forwards and of those above Humphrey for disposals, only Ryley Sanders not a fully mature footballer - the rest are 26yo or older. Dangerfield ranks 9th averaging 16.8 disposals.

2. Humphrey is ranked 3rd of the General Forwards for contested marks, taking 1 per game. Dangerfield averaging 0.6 per game.

3. Contested possessions, Humphrey averaging 11.5, this is AFL #1 amongst General Forwards and is off the charts for any General Forward, let alone a 20yo. Dangerfield averages 9.7 per game. Humphrey streeting the field in this stat. In fact he sits at AFL#23 in this stat for all comers(ie including full time mids). Only 3 rucks and 19 full time mids are above him. Since this stat has been kept from 2019 with positional differentiation, Humphrey averages the highest for contested possessions of all general forwards within a season. Only 2 other players have got 10 or more. T Greene 2019 10.4 and I Heeney 2020 10.0.

4. Goal average. Humphrey ranks a lot lower in this at 0.7 per game but is a respectable approx AFL#53(within the top 3 goal kickers in each team on average.) - Dangerfield averages 1.9 per game.

5. Goal assist average. Humphrey AFL #1 amongst General Forwards at 1.3 per game. Dangerfield about #50 with 0.6 per game

6. Score involvements. AFL #8 amongst general Forwards. Dangerfield #11 at 6.3 per game.

7. Hard ball gets. Humphrey #1 at 2.8 per game, Dangerfield =#1 2.8 per game. They are miles ahead of the rest.

8. Offensive 1 v 1 win%. Ogf players involved in at least 1 of these per game, Humphrey(2.0 per game) is AFL #2 winning 56%. Dangerfield(2.9 per game) is AFL #4 in this cohort, winning 52%.

9. Overall Player Rating. Humphrey is #3 13.68, Dangerfield #5 12.04.

10. Tackles. Humphrey AFL #5 4.3 per game amongst General Forwards. Dangerfield #25 this cohort 2.7 per game.

11. Pressure Acts. Humphrey #9 in this cohort 17.6 per game. Dangerfield approx #70+ 9.8 per game.

This guy is playing at AA level right here and now in his 3rd season. He is a massive contest winner, and the toughest kind of contests too, ahead of the ball.

I have to ask...why is nobody talking about this? Daicos runs around going 1-2-3 nothing disposals going nowhere and racks up 30 he is the best player in the game easily according to the commentariat. Dangerfield is a walk up AA as a general forward according to the same. Meanwhile Bailey Humphrey is quietly announcing himself as a huge star while nobody notices. More interested in whether Harley Reid pushed someone after he tackled them.

****ing putrid lack of focus from the footy media.

Love all these stats and Humphrey will be a gun but he's lacking in the key stat for a fwd which is goals.

The shot at Daicos is also just strange since Humphrey has kicked just 1 goal more than Daicos this year and Daicos has had more shots than Humphrey despite being a mid.

If Bailey starts kicking goals he can be in AA discussion but until then he won't be.

Shh, keep him under the radar as long as possible. Quickly becoming my favourite player at the club, some of his clearances last night were top tier.

Humphrey is a tremendous player. I have been watching him do things that are very difficult to do one after the other thinking well this week somebody will notice.

I couldn't wait any longer sorry, had to lift the lid - he is way too good for nobody to be talking about him. Powerful player.

Fortunately Champion Data can see the value in Humphrey's work forward of the ball. You don't seem to understand it is extremely difficult to win contests ahead of the ball, especially in the sort of volume Humphrey is managing, and how valuable that is for your team - compared to streaming forward and getting an easy receive because someone else on your team emancipated the ball.

Perhaps people will get it when the stupid commentators start mentioning it.

He is one of my favourite player in the competition. He has the potential to be a super star. One of the toughest and strongest player but once he builds his endurance he will be a beast. Please Damien Hardwick play him full time in the midfield.

There is a stat that somewhat captures this, Post CL CP. It doesn't exactly capture wining contests ahead of the ball but wining contests post clearance.

Humphrey is right up there in this stat along with Curtis and Long.

The thing with Humphrey though is he attends about a third of his team's centre bounce, which can inflate some of the stats you mentioned when compared to other gen fwds who aren't.

Dangerfield has done a similar percentage of his time in the midfield this season. Players that can do what Bailey Humphrey is doing are as rare as hen's teeth.

Humphrey is AFL #3 in post clearance contested possessions across all positions(including full time mids,) with 6.3 per game. Dangerfield is AFL#23. Nick Daicos is AFL #30.

Humphrey is AFL #14 for hard ball gets across all positions. Every player ahead of him in that stat is a full time inside midfielder. This bloke is 20yo. If he develops a proper tank at some stage, watch out for Gold Coast to start winning finals.

Challenge: post without a handful of Dangerfield references.

Status: failed.

Now the second highest rated forward in the AFL based on average performance in 2025, behind only Sam Darcy.

Amongst all forwards he is:

#14 for metres gained
#1 contested possessions
#5 total clearances
#6 for average tackles
#9 for pressure acts
#2 for offensive 1 v 1 win % - 56%(amongst those with 1 or more 1 v 1's per match)
#5 for score launches
#7 for goal assists
#13 for score involvements
#2 for post clearance contested possessions
#1 for hard ball gets
#10 for kick threat rating
#20 for disposals

If you just watch forwards for disposals and goals kicked you won't fully get this bloke. He is a contested Goliath. And high tariff contests as well, forward of the ball mostly. But he also has a very strong defensive side to his game.

I reiterate: watch this guy closely, he is actual.

He looks like he could do serious damage in a final, like Kai Lohmann

I’m happy for him but so shattered as I was practically begging us to take him in the draft. Rated him as the number 1 just ahead of Sheezel and that’s turned alright.

Still can’t understand why Dodoro was so allergic to contested mid forward players.

Yeah I'm really suprised that people havent been jerking him off in the media, each season he's been building into potentially an elite player of the comp. It takes about a year for the media to latch on but its the first time someones posted about him saying "This guy could be one of the best players in the comp in 18 months"

He’s a gun already. His ability to burst out of stoppages, break tackles and deliver a low, flat and fast 50 metre dart to a teammate is awesome to watch, and he’s only going to get better. He’s also powerful in the air and in one on one marking contests. Has a good footy IQ too. As his tank improves, look out.
