Keith Pitt the lobby group for coal within government.

The nonsense that reducing Aus coal exports will have any effect on emissions is demonstrated here:

American coal production this year will swell 15% to meet stronger demand for electricity at home and abroad, according to the U.S. Energy Department’s July outlook. That would be the most since at least 1990 and nearly double the 8% increase projected in May, when the economic rebound was still in earlier stages of recovery.

The shift underscores the vicious circle of climate change as more extreme temperatures drive power demand just as extensive drought cuts output from hydropower dams. That prompts utilities to burn more of the dirtiest fossil fuel, a pattern also exacerbated by high natural gas prices. At the same time, key exporters including Australia and Colombia face supply problems that have helped lift global prices to a 10-year high and added to international demand for U.S. coal exports.

Time the fake news around coal are recognised.
I can’t imagine a article sourced from mining.com won’t have a agenda to push

The problem we all face when reading comments on power generation is discerning where we are today, where we hope to be whenever (2025), & kpi's to measure progress:

'Federal resources minister Keith Pitt has labelled a prediction from Australia’s key energy market operator that a 100 per cent renewable grid will become an increasingly common occurrence as “absolute nonsense”.

Responding to the speech by new CEO Daniel Westerman, where he said the grid would need to be ready to operate on 100 per cent renewables as early as 2025, Pitt said the only way that supplies of renewable electricity could be firmed was through the use of fossil fuels.'

Dodgy Keith Pitt has been caught with his fingers in the jar again. Of course so is Fungus Taylor.

The energy minister, Angus Taylor, and resources minister, Keith Pitt, have been asked to explain their dealings with the Liberal-linked firm Empire Energy before it received $21m in federal grants, after email records showed it asking for information on “eligibility criteria” and the “application process” well before the program guidelines were released.

Lol.
Australia is a backward criminal country officially now.

London (CNN Business)The Australian government said Monday that the country would keep producing and exporting coal "well beyond 2030," despite a stark warning from a top UN climate official that failing to scrap the fossil fuel will "wreak havoc" on the economy.
The comments, made in a rebuke by the minister for resources and water, Keith Pitt, puts Australia at odds with several other developed nations, which are working towards phasing out coal by the end of the decade.

How about Australia will cease coal when Norway and the UK will cease pumping oil & gas out of the North Sea? Why do you think Scotland wants independence?
Germany represented 44 % of the total brown coal consumption of the EU in 2019
China has also stated they will not agree to any agreement and they will reduce as it suits them. They are actively looking for oil & gas deposits in the Sth China Sea, as well as Africa.

Why isn't the world putting immediate trade bans on China? Much easier to kick the s**t out of Australia.

North Sea is already running low, with projections it will tap out in 20 years

Fine, then we will stop exporting coal in 20 years..Win/win.

You realise that's probably exactly what they want?

Also you are aware the EU is telling the likes of China and India that unless they want the tax penalties, they need to switch to more environmentally friendly energy alternatives? The age of coal increasing forever and a day is over.

...and China will the EU to go and f*ck themselves like they have always done. China is going thru a new Cultural Revolution and the thing that terrifies the Party is unrest..Mass unemployment causes unrest. Their economy is spluttering and need to keep public works ticking along..
They have their largest property developer on the verge of collapse, Brazil has just reported mad cow disease and stopped meat shipments to China, their banks are technically insolvent due to poor non performing loans and the Asset Management companies entrusted to get these loans out of the system are on the verge of bankruptcy themselves.

and thats why they wont jeopardize losing EU export markets

we have two options

1) tax our carbon, and start properly developing alternate industries

2) let the EU tax our carbon, and lose export market share to those who adapt

I will challenge whether the US, China, or Russia and the countries that follow their lead will pay the tax. If Trump wins the next election he will cancel all of Biden's policies and then go after Europe if they dare put a tax on US goods.

When you say tax our carbon, you are effectively saying tax the sh*t out of the poor.
The rich don't care b/c they pay their bills through their family trusts or companies and end up claiming back a tax credit.
That leaves the Middle class and the poor. Both sides of politics do not want to tax the middle class. They want to keep them happy, so they will do everything short of taxing them. That leaves the poor. Nobody cares about them. They are usually in safe seats and both sides of Politics have ignored them for 50+ years.

you know how long it takes a case like that to go through WTO? Just as with our war with China, its 3-5 years, enough to kill markets while waiting

if trump is your answer, you're asking the wrong question

Not a supporter of Trump, just explaining if he gets back in, then the US is back to square 1.

no its not. he gets back in, they complain to the EU and we all sit around waiting

oh, and in the meantime he whacks more tariffs on EU product.

in any case, you're not getting your win

How about we stop talking about other countries and concentrate on our own country which is second worst in the world. Wake up.

How about looking at your own country , the worst in the world.
Your argument is ridiculous.
When other countries start shutting down their economies, will gladly follow. When the UK & Norway stop drilling for oil and gas in the North Sea, and Germany has zero coal use, then I will listen.

are you aware both the UK and Norway are not in the EU?

Are you across the increasjng capacity of coal fired power generation in Asia under construction with a 30 year productive life. Thats post the 2050 virtue signalling of the Europeans.

ps: why do these countries build coal powered stations when Australia knows renewables are cheaper. We buy Chinese solar panels & wind power blades SO something does not compute.

Why isn't the world putting immediate trade bans on China? Much easier to kick the sh*t out of Australia. India? Vietnam?

China approved the construction of a further 36.9 GW of coal-fired capacity last year, three times more than a year earlier, bringing the total under construction to 88.1 GW. It now has 247 GW of coal power under development, enough to supply the whole of Germany.'

I'm not committed to coal personally, but some of the rhetoric around this discussion is patently false.

Are you across that it's mostly replacing existing shittier coal power? This notion Asia is all in on coal and has zero focus on moving is complete BS. And 2050 is the endline most nations (except us) have bought in on

Any argument that 'this other country is still building coal mines' is a distraction and not relevant to Australia's position.
We export massive amounts of coal as well.
We are the worst in the world next to Saudia Arabia .Any argument about other countries ,who all have less per capita emissions than us, is total bs and sounds like a bs Matt Canavan view.
