Have you seen any announcement that says he has resigned from the board? Board members - outside the chair - don't normally have a public profile. He has. Just because you haven't heard from him in a while doesn't mean he has resigned as a board member. There's been a little lock down issue lately.
Didn't LR allude to it a while back? Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Darren originally became available for appointment (not election) to the Club board on the basis of a one-year break from the international tennis circuit to spend time with his family, stay in Adelaide, see more of Jack (who wouldn’t want to do that with a dad like JC pushing eighty?). Koch and Cardone suggested that he spend that year on the PAFC board and provide them with a conduit to the coaching panel with whom they were struggling communications-wise, especially with Hinkley. This sounded to me at the time like a director being appointed for the express purpose of not staying in his lane, a phrase used a few posts ago. But it has worked out, not because of any uncharacteristic smarts from Koch and Cardone but purely because of Darren’s innate ability to suss people out, work with them, find his own road to the high ground, do his job from there.

I believe a board member’s minimum term is three years. Darren is thus still with us, his name clearly on the list of directors. He was interviewed on SEN a week or so ago. He has applied himself brilliantly to his Club tasks, as we saw commercially and marketing-wise with MG / SAIC who would not be our JMS but for him.

My regret is that we don’t have half a dozen Killer Cahills on our board of directors ... yet.

I would not be surprised if KT has opted to extend his tenure. KT has never struck me as someone who would run from a challenge and next year will be a challenge.
Do you really think he has a choice in this one? Sure sign of him being shown the door in a professional, planned way.
Brave, dedicated or crazy. Take your pick.
Not KT’s choice to stay or go. Will the board stay with their decision to move him on or delay 12 months?

Totally agree. Global sports pedigree like Killer is too good to not have on our board. He is a must keep

I have not read anywhere that the PAFC Board made the decision to 'move him on'.

KT has a contract til 31 October so he has every right to decide whether he goes or stays on.

You also dismiss the working relationship between Koch and Thomas. Like you I do not have first hand knowledge but I would think Koch has a degree of confidence in Thomas after the work they both put in on the China deal.

We don't need a lame duck CEO to hang around. We need someone prepared to take tough decisions and implement them thru to the end.
Agreed. The fact that KT is going to stick around suggests that they are not looking at internal applicants.

Don't know if the border lockout is a problem in these days of MS Teams, Zoom etc video meeting platforms for interviews, but if they want to bring in an international candidate they are going to have to do a nifty tap dance.

They haven't even started the process. Haven't called in HR consultants, done job descriptions etc. The majority of the board wont do anything until the season starts up again and has a stability wait and see, don't rock the boat mantra.

I've been on record, that in a normal world you do a world wide search, get big recruiters like Egon Zender on board to do the search, not just SA specialists Hender Consulting. But forget an international candidate, the borders will be closed for 6 more months to international travellers who aren't Oz citizens/residents and aren't exempt workers. The best Oz candidate isn't going to leave a secure position when nobody knows when the full time salary can be offered again. Just promote Matthew Richardson. He hasn't been 2IC for 3 years to stay there 10 more years. Give him a 3 year contract. If Richo doesn't get the job, he probably walks so more corporate amnesia at the club, and we have seen the last decade or so the problems that generates. Give Chris Davies a greater role, football + extra admin stuff.

I agree but the issue is whether a new ceo would have their hands tied by the COVID-19 fallout. It’s unlikely a high quality candidate would take on the job if the next 12 months are going to be awful and Ken still requiring a chunky payout.

That's why promoting the 2IC/internally makes sense. He knows the politics, the board, the restrictions, and in Richo's case he knows Ken isn't popular with fans that want real success not the happy clappers. KT and a new CEO wont have the guts to upset the happy clappers.

In an acting role or as an appointment?
Appoint him so he can go to all the AFL CEO meetings so that hears what is being discussed, and who is arguing for what changes, who objects to what changes etc, so if a coalition needs to be built to push for, or stop some of the recommended changes, he knows who to work with, and more importantly he is responsible to implement decisions made at these meetings that he had some input in.

So basically he is offering his hand up if we can't find a replacement in these challenging times. I don't think it's a big issue, and it may help us out of a tough predicament. However, if we find someone else or figure out that KT staying on is not in the best interests of the club he will walk away as intended.

I think KT is just trying to do the right thing by the club, maybe he lacks a bit of ruthlessness we need in a CEO but i think he has always had the best interests of the club at heart.
