The info about the revenue Port Adelaide has generated for the SANFL both post and pre-AFL entry has been looooong overdue. For too long we've been slaughtered on that PR-front, with the majority of the football public boiling our entire contribution down to the relative pittance of our Power-era end of year dividends.

The hammer's coming down.
 
From the 5aa i nterview when the fixture came out - stupid asked was he angry and KT said -

I honestly can’t even begin to express my respect and admiration for this man.

However, it's a massive shame that he was even put in the position where he had to ‘set the record straight’ for us members and supporters. AND, in the same month that he has to tie up a stadium deal that will potentially determine the clubs financial success (or failure) over the next 20 years.

Not to forget the single game minor round record crowd of 35,213 who attended the final minor round game of 1981 at Football Park between Port and Norwood. Port smashed Norwood 16.23 to 12.1 and went on to win the sanfl premiership against the hapless bays.

GUNFIGHT AT THE SANFL CORRAL ... ?

THE CASUAL ASSASSIN AND THE CROSS-CODE KID TO SHOOT IT OUT SIDE-BY-SIDE ... ?

Last night, that famed football reformer, The Casual Assassin, made this statement to the 60,000 members of his posse:

"Next week, SA football will make an important decision regarding the future of the game in this state.

"Crows CEO Andrew Fagan and I will brief the media on the progress of the Adelaide Oval review.

"This is a ‘line in the sand’ moment, where SA football has the opportunity to ratify a new model that will establish our state as the pre-eminent overall football structure in Australia.

"A structure where the two AFL clubs are incentivised to drive, through our members and supporters, the football economy of this state, with the SANFL continuing to provide a powerful second-tier competition, elite junior development and increase grassroots participation.

"That opportunity is available to us. Now.

"I look forward to updating you further next week."

Now folks, let's analyse the Casual Assassin's statement, point by point :-

1. "Next week, SA football will make an important decision regarding the future of the game in this state."

'Next week' = Date virtually set.
'SA football' = The whole box and dice, not just one club or the other.
'an important decision' = Not 'critical' or 'vital', just 'important'.
'regarding the future of the game' = Self-explanatory.

2. "Crows CEO Andrew Fagan and I will brief the media on the progress of the Adelaide Oval review."

'Fagan and I' = Together ? Or separately ?
'will brief the media' = Joint press conference (nothing on Crows' website) ? Or just separate statements ?
'on the progress of the Adelaide Oval review.' = Sounds self-explanatory, but 'brief the media'? What about that 'decision'?

3. "This is a ‘line in the sand’ moment, where SA football has the opportunity to ratify a new model that will establish our state as the pre-eminent overall football structure in Australia."

'..."line in the sand" moment' = Here we are back to a 'decision'.
'SA football has the opportunity to ratify a new model' = More about a 'decision'.
'that will establish our state...pre-eminent...in Australia.' = Sounds like a big deal, more important than just 'important.'

4. "A structure where the two AFL clubs are incentivised to drive, through our members and supporters, the football economy of this state, with the SANFL continuing to provide a powerful second-tier competition, elite junior development and increase grassroots participation."

'A structure ... two AFL clubs ... incentivised to drive ... football economy of this state ... = Sounds like it's about more money for the AFL clubs.
'SANFL continuing to provide etc etc etc' = Sounds like it's about less money for the SANFL.

5. "That opportunity is available to us. Now.
"I look forward to updating you further next week."

'opportunity ... Now.' = Imminent. 'Now.' One-word sentence. Wow.
'...look forward...updating you further next week.' = Hmmmm. Let-down. Zero impact. Cancels what came before. Just being polite? Evasive? Casual ?
