Whicker wanted a bloke called Lyons to parachute into the chair and essentially wind up the club and free up the liscence. Demetriou intervened and brought in Thomas.
Demetriou did not or would not of known who KT was. I concede that Lyons was his first choice but lets be clear as Whicker was going down he was adamant on selecting the Port CEO to over rule any remaining Port board members. As I said KT was working the angles consulting to Whicker at the time

If Ken must remain then there is only one thing needed that can help improve on field performance.

1. Employ a coach above Ken who overseas the overall game plan, Team balance and selections. Come on down Mr.Noble.

This leaves Ken as just a game day motivator and could possibly seek termination of contract.
Given our starts, 'Ken the motivator' is a complete fallacy.

Joy Division, “dad rock”?

Oh lort.

the only people who think joy division isnt dad rock are blokes named david in their 40s who are middle management at an accounting firm who spend their weekends helping out the boss aka the wife. they are still in denial about joy division being dad rock

If anybody from the club is reading this, KT falling on his sword while Koch and (particularly) Ken remain will not satisfy us. Keith Thomas has been far from perfect over the last few years but of the three K's he is by far the least of our worries.

There's only one thing that's going to get people excited to go to the football again next year, and it's no Ken Hinkley. No other excuses, alternatives, scapegoats or compromises will be accepted. No. Ken. Hinkley.

Repeated for emphasis.

42 likes for one post is a very strong BigFooty vote of affirmation.

So you think Whicker wanted Lyons, rang him up and asked him, “what are you up to, mate? Fancy helping a brother out?”. Lyons goes “Sorry man, I’m a bit busy, try KT”?

No, Lyons was ready to go. It was happening. The club came within an inch of basically being wound up and the second license back in the hands of the SANFL to distribute as they pleased.

Thomas was very much Demetriou’s man. I mean, since KT was put into the chair we’ve wrestled away control of half the board from the SANFL, and we’ve got the license back from the SANFL, albeit at a financial cost, and with the AFL still having a major input into the running of the club. That was the whole point. Vlad saw what was happening and saw the SANFL as a major hinderance, not only to the prosperity of Port Adelaide, but to the sport in this state moving out of the stone-age, and he set out to change it. And KT was his man to do it. If you don’t believe me email Caroline Wilson and ask her.

Caroline Wilson, please. The authority of all things leaked from AFL. I did agree that Vlad endorsed KT as the Lyons thing was a joke, but what I am saying was it was Whickers choice and yes Vlad did a 5 minute chat with KT and endorsed Licker to proceed, that’s a fact.
You lost me on Caroline Wilson reference though.

Didn't Lyons quit because he didn't believe he could ethically do what Whicker and Olsen wanted him to do?

Olsen brought in Thomas, who he new through the Liberal Party, as his second choice but Thomas, to his credit, is his own man and went about continuing the work Haysman had started to save the club.

I’ve never heard that one, and it’s the first I’ve heard of Thomas having links to the Liberal Party.

I will admit there was some strange noises coming from that piece of shit Rob Lucas about the removal of Haysman just prior to him being ousted, but I don’t remember Lucas mentioning Thomas.

So what is it that you're actually trying to say?

Are you suggesting the current state of PAFC is due to a long range secret plan by Leigh Whicker and implemented by KT even though Whicker no longer has any say nor pull over KT, Port or the SANFL?

Very true. I think you covered just about everything I see wrong at the club atm.
Coach bashing appears to be standard fare in world sport these days, and whilst often harsh, we do operate in a high performance environment. Success is expected.
All coaches understand this, and Ken is no different.
Don’t think he doesn’t hear the criticism or feel the disappointment of his players and our members. He does.
He’s not seeking understanding or respite. He’s simply getting on with the job of navigating a young group through the perils of inconsistency and a brutally tight competition.
Saturday night was a fierce example of how close it is, and another opportunity to step through the door awaits us in Melbourne this week.
We can’t wait to get there.

Well said keith, in particular publicly declaring that criticism has for some become pure and simply coach bashing. It is at these times that i feel ashamed to be a football supporter let alone a port adelaide supporter. You have done well to use the pen to acknowledge the situation as above, because the serial coach, club, coach, player bashers will not face you in a manly manner, but snipe from the gutter they retreat to after a win. I applaud your letter which is for the wider football community.

At the football i have never heard the unrelenting negative toxic vemon i have read in this cowards castle. You here the odd voice which is one of frustation, but an alberton grand stand crowd would be their to cheer and encourage milde, traynor, beaufoy, nyland haslam and the others through the ages. This is the true voice of the port adelaide supporter.

Again i thank you for coming out and being direct and as blunt as you can be. I appeal to all true football big footy posters such as janus and the handball king to continue to offer us some football gems for real football discussion.

Lyons Irving was the SANFL appointed auditor who had close working relationships with several of our board members. His remit from the SANFL was to wind us up, however he was shown the figures by the PAFC board and saw that the problem wasn't Port, it was the SANFL. So he stepped down from the appointed role.

I've never heard of Lyons Irving's name being connected to the PAFC CEO role ever... until now.

Edit: Irving not Lyons.

Remind me what was KT’s previous media industry management role? ....
He had nothing to do with managing star or any other performers.

"Keith Thomas was the Group Sales Director for DMG Radio ......"

Our coach is making people ashamed to be a Port Adelaide supporter.

He’s a failing loser — and that’s not intended as a put-down, it’s fact.

Thanks. It was the Legendary Finn Barr that connected him to the CEO role.

So the similar timing of the appointments is the only connection then.

Haysman was definitely a Whicker appointee. The actual process of advertising for a CEO at that time was a complete sham. I know a person who's CV was better than just about any CEO ever across the competition albeit from a non football background (but still very much a Port person) who was not even afforded an interview. Yes Haysman was very much a Whicker plant, yet even he turned on them.

KT was in no way a Whicker appointee.
