Haysman was definitely a Whicker appointee. The actual process of advertising for a CEO at that time was a complete sham. I know a person who's CV was better than just about any CEO ever across the competition albeit from a non football background (but still very much a Port person) who was not even afforded an interview. Yes Haysman was very much a Whicker plant, yet even he turned on them.

KT was in no way a Whicker appointee.

I remember Haysman talking about getting into the CEO’s chair, working through the books, the business model, and being blown away by how completely unworkable it was. That would’ve been enough to turn anyone. KT has said similar, how once you get behind the desk at Port Adelaide it becomes abundantly clear very quickly that certain people are working feverishly to try and ensure the club becomes little more than a footnote in history.

I have no doubt that Keith Thomas initially saw the SANFL as a partner to work with, but that all changed very quickly. It couldn’t not change you.

It seems really weird to not even hold interviews. I mean even if the whole process is a complete sham isn’t it common practice to just interview people for the sake of it and hopefully steal a few good ideas?

John Irving was the independent forensic account the SANFL put in to work with our board and he quit in mid 2011 when the SANFL atempted to put their C.O.O John Lyons in to replace Haysman. Duncanson and Demetriou both told the SANFL to get stuffed.

The Big ads in the national papers, the exercise of utilizing some Big Corporate Headhunting Employment Placement Firm to facilitate the process of getting the best person was all just completely bogus and waste of money. As I said, this said person's CV reads better than almost anything out there, when he put in his application he actually received no response. He had to chase up the Employment agency to see what was going on. They basically told him don't even bother mate, the position is already filled.

Ok, I stand corrected. Irving was who I was thinking of.

I’m not doubting what you’re saying at all. I’m just amazed that they didn’t even pretend to go through the process.

He had nothing to do with managing star or any other performers.

"Keith Thomas was the Group Sales Director for DMG Radio ......"

well he's stuck between Kochie and Ken so my point about being bullied by star (in their own minds) performers stands - not fully versed at dealing with egos of that size ;)

I'm just gonna say it, outside of the Ken contract, I like KT and will be dissapointed when he leaves.

My opinion is that he is wrong about kens ability to bring us success, but he is doing what he thinks is best for the club. Outside of that he has done a brilliant job pushing our agenda and representing us on a national stage.

It's hardly surprising when you look at the reason for the Crows and SANFL's existence since 1990 has been to consign Port to the footnotes of History.

So you think Whicker wanted Lyons, rang him up and asked him, “what are you up to, mate? Fancy helping a brother out?”. Lyons goes “Sorry man, I’m a bit busy, try KT”?

No, Lyons was ready to go. It was happening. The club came within an inch of basically being wound up and the second license back in the hands of the SANFL to distribute as they pleased.

Thomas was very much Demetriou’s man. I mean, since KT was put into the chair we’ve wrestled away control of half the board from the SANFL, and we’ve got the license back from the SANFL, albeit at a financial cost, and with the AFL still having a major input into the running of the club. That was the whole point. Vlad saw what was happening and saw the SANFL as a major hinderance, not only to the prosperity of Port Adelaide, but to the sport in this state moving out of the stone-age, and he set out to change it. And KT was his man to do it. If you don’t believe me email Caroline Wilson and ask her.

The AFL made some mistakes in the way they handled our licence situation (eg Koch), but Vlad the impaler was smart enough to know that if the snafl got rid of Port and retained control of the licence, any 2nd team they created from the carnage would have being playing in front of family and friends, and made our tarp days of 20k crowds look sensational by comparison.

The more I think about the email, the more it was a way of taking personal ownership of the club’s current failings and it seems clear that KT doesn’t last the season out. It was a throw the heat on me not Ken, I’m the problem, and that allows the club to remove him and say they’ve ‘fixed’ the issue.

The question for mine is why isn’t there more heat on Ken from KT, Koch and the board? Why are they working so hard to protect him?

Because, and I'm hoping I'm wrong, he has 2 years left on his silly deal and there is no way out of it except to pay him out in full or keep him on for at least another year.

Because they genuinely believe he is the right man for the job. Its only fan backlash and sub 30k crowds that will force their hand at the moment.

This, plus I imagine that if he is forced out there's the possibility of legal action etc that we'd be desperate to avoid going into the 150th.

It has that feeling doesn’t it? Poorer clubs than ours have booted coaches and the potential lost revenue from missing finals, lost sponsors and decreasing membership is surely just as bad. My fear is that they aren’t booting him due to the bad look of a board signing a coach to a ridiculous deal then sacking him shortly after. Really if Ken goes, other have to go as well as questions will rightfully be asked.

Because they genuinely believe he is the right man for the job. Its only fan backlash and sub 30k crowds that will force their hand at the moment.

This is my other fear, that the board actually believes in Ken. What are the board seeing that we as casual observers aren’t? What are the thinking? What are they being sold?
Or are they genuinely this naive or stupid?

Regardless, I think KT will be the scape goat here.

"Mark Haysman will remain chief executive after SANFL plans to appoint its chief operating officer, John Lyons, as the Power's interim chief executive were scuttled by Duncanson and AFL boss Andrew Demetriou demanding stability at Alberton."

lol, that didn't last long.

Not long after that Rob Lucas announced in Parliament that Haysman had been sacked which was the first the PAFC board had heard of it.
