Wholeheartedly agree.

I've had conversations with business associates in Melbourne who dabble on BigFooty that comment on the quality of the Port board. The general consensus seems to be that Port supporters, more often than not, know their football.

And is working to play a bit more. ;)

"Don't kick it to Lonie"

"We're only 8 goals up against Carlton at 3 qtr time - we'll probably still lose this"

..oops that one is probably accurate

Gotta say what a great man this bloke is. At the aftermatch function he said we could all go to Live at the Drive for free. We're so lucky to have someone like him at our club.

And he was there. I got there as Spiderbait were finishing their set. Just before You Am I played, I saw him and went and said hello, he looked shagged but still had the tie and coat on. I said g'day and he said - my brain is fried - ie I can't talk anymore REH. So I said thanks for the day and left him alone. The big effort meant he wasn't his casual self - just an exhausted one.

I hope Kochie makes KT have a few days off to get away from it all at some point in April. The poor guy must be beyond exhausted after what he's done to get Adelaide Oval off the ground and all. And he is so precious to us- one of our four pillars, so we need to look after him.

It's just not KT - so many of our staff - especially membership department staff - have been flat out since the Christmas/New years break and probably need a break.

Spoke to Matthew Richardson after the post match function formalities finished. I've been doing some stuff with him re Lockhart Road's Peter Chant project. He said call me, then paused and said not Monday - its going to be crazy after this result.

I called the club on Friday about an IT issue with the watchafl.com.au website/international membership and yeah you could tell they were under the gun. My membership pack can wait a week longer guys, but yeah Monday's going to be crazy in a good way.

So right, Stan.
I looked at KT yesterday and reckoned he's lost weight recently. New haircut, too, on the stark side for him.
I had a dozen things to mention to him, but kept my distance out of respect.
He'll be coming to Hong Kong with the Board in May, and I'll do my level best to make it a real break for him... and the others as well, of course.
But especially for him.

Made good reading, for me for sure, especially the side piece that mentions 'central corridor' and our corporate push further north into Asia.

Looking for an internet link, unsuccessfully so far... sorry. And just heading out for the Oval so no time to quote parts of the text just yet.

Have a feeling a number of pairs of eyes further north would be interested in reading this.

Asian market holds loads of power for Port’s future

RIVERS of gold flowing from Port Adelaide’s move to Adelaide Oval granted ‘survival’ but financial prosperity lies in the Far East says Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas.

Port is plotting an eastern incursion stretching from Burnside to Hong Kong in a dramatic “redesign” of club business strategy.

AFL’s arrival at Adelaide Oval has changed the city’s sporting landscape and Port is quietly wooing the eastern suburbs establishment.

“A lot of our advertising has been in that space, we hope that is true,’’ Thomas said. “We have spent a lot of time talking to people in the eastern suburbs about Adelaide Oval. We will break that down and work out the uplift.”

Port Adelaide will gain a $3.9 million bounty through 30 per cent increase in match attendances, membership and corporate hospitality at Adelaide Oval. However “different thinking” is required to get ahead of the game - prompting Port’s watershed commercial push into China.

“We feel we have gone out of the survival phase and are now entering the growth phase,” said Thomas, with Port’s Asian push underlined by having its May board meeting in Hong Kong.

“We are ensuring Port Adelaide has a business model that can sustain it as a powerhouse of the AFL.

“Adelaide Oval enables you to survive but not necessarily be prosperous, really secure and we are actively thinking about that.”

Port has formally linked with the prestigious Hong Kong Football Club while president David Koch has organised meetings with Asian business leaders on next month’s visit to China.

“There are membership opportunities with the local Chinese community and commercial links through the central corridor with Chinese joint venture partners,” Thomas said.

“We have a reciprocal deal with the Hong Kong Football Club but Kochie has taken it a step forward with the guys he knows

Great stuff :)

I'm not REH so my recall is a bit lacking, but a couple of points made by KT today at the Captains Club lunch.

Mentioned they had 4 pages of points needing action after the first game at AO and have ticked off a fair amount. Teething problems.

He wasnt really into Port when we won in 04 ;) and he sat down through the week and watched the game. Commented on the team being reallly hard and tough.

Mentioned the 50k members and expecting to see crowds around the 35k mark, and acknowledged the importance of ppl in the room, saying that previous management focus had been much more on larger corporates, but they know small/mediums have a part to play so they are returning focus to those people.

All said very casually.

Was a very nice lunch in the Cathedral Room (thanks FF for organising and nice to meet another poster, reCOGnise, today). Was a very well run event and service was excellent.
