At the time it wasn't such a crazy thought. Looking at it now though, we're in good hands.

I don't think the SANFL put him in to finish off Port, but ensure they had their own man on the inside who wouldn't complain about the rear hurt. And would compliantly roll over on the stadium deal and license when required.

I misjudged Thomas, I'll put my hand up for that. However I still strongly believe the SANFL did as well and am 100% sure they did think he'd be a stooge for them. They massively misjudged his integrity and after spending so much time blowing the Crows, Whicker and Basheer forgot how clubs work as opposed to corporations. And even though he was a Norwood boy, Norwood is a club and as such Keith could appreciate Port as a club in a way Whicker and Basheer with their focus on metrics, catering and 'the product' have long since forgotten. Since then Keith has obviously fully bought into Port and would like to bail him up, get him drunk and find out exactly what Max and Leigh asked him to do. I'd guess those two clowns would be running for their lawyers if Keith publicly repeated what they said in private.

Now back onto Flynn! I hope he comes back later in the year. A few games in the reserves to familiarise himself more with the game, followed by another pre-season, then league next year with a slim chance of a game late 2015, but hopefully some in 2016 would be what my wish list looks like for his return.

* Edit. Haha. Butt then hurt instead of rear hurt is censored. Really? Chief going overboard on the family friendly aspect. I'll just nod my head as another set of ad's to hook up with Milf's or Cougars on BF goes by.

Again, unless Rob Lucas completely fluked the prediction that Keith Thomas would be installed as CEO while Mark Haysman was still in that chair, there was an unprecedented amount of smoke to that superficial fire.

Now it's all turned out for the best and Keith Thomas has shown himself to be as Port Adelaide as Big Bob before him, but bloody hell. Given the SANFL all but descended on Alberton like Seal Team Six and everything Rob Lucas smugly shat out on the floor of parliament came to pass, the concerns were more than justified at the time.

I think some were concerned whilst others were hysterical.

Whatever the sanfl wanted to do to Port they would have to come through the AFL first and we all know how that would end. Andy D had been fully supportive of Port whenever asked and IIRC when the sanfl tried the SEAL Team 6 attack wasn't it the AFL who threw out that attempt? Wasn't it the AFL who Haysman went to when we were down and being kicked? Wasn't it the AFL who gently persuaded the sanfl to loan Port back some of the money we have made for them the past 140 years?

No matter who held the licence we are the AFL's club and they were always going to decide what was going to happen to us. Andy D was going to honour the vision of Ross and Alan and has lived up to that throughout the bleak years.

Pretty good article, they were right right and right.

Well Haysman got sacked, Chapman got sacked from St George and is now unemployed and KT has been the real deal. I am happy and we move forward at a rapid rate under KT

What makes people think that Keith Thomas was chosen and placed in this position by the SANFL? The SANFL thought that they could influence our club's appointments but it was always the club that found its own people and only required them to be endorsed by the SANFL, not selected, chosen, and forced upon us.

not many club officials help make the banner that the players run through .. and not many club officials hold up a banner that the players run through either

I was ok with the appointment at the time after hearing a few thoughts about him from people that had worked with him.
Dont think it was an sanfl plant thing, by all accounts he'd made a decision to get into footy and it was going to be at one of the two clubs. .. or the sanfl. ... this was known by many at the time if Keith is to be believed, so no reason not to think Lucas knew also.

Port has struck gold on so many fronts in the last couple of years - no wonder the mob across town are so envious of us. KT is 10 times the CEO Triggy is, and in every other area I can think of, we're doing things as well as anybody could do them. We're in great hands for many years to come.
