It's relatively easy for any half competent manager to come in and make the obvious changes to any floundering business and look like the 2nd coming of the messiah, ala the 3K trilogy when they first came to the club.

What many do though, and what has happened with our club is they sat back and relaxed when the job was only half done, or in the kochmeister's case got so wrapped up in the early idolatry from many of the rank and file supporters he began to believe his own bath water tasted better than a 12 year old single malt.

My opinion of the 3 is

KT has run his race, he is a moderately competent manager for the day to day stuff but is weak at negotiating with the powers that be, be it the AFL or the snafl.

Kern is a boof headed Vic country bogan who won the equivalent of x-lotto when the other two K's swallowed the gold coast BS.

Koch is the most dangerous of the lot because he thinks he is better than he really is, and I suspect if things have gone pear shaped with the club's finances again, that he will be much more interested in protecting his own reputation and ego than getting the job done at Alberton.

I disagree with this entirely. I feel like he's gotten less and less genuine in his time here and some of his recent stuff sounds to me like someone who knows what he's saying is bulls**t and will go down like a lead balloon.
He is almost incoherent at times. Makes KG sound like William Shakespeare.

I think you have hit the nail on the head '54 although I will say KT has been more than 1/2 competent. The challenges we had in 2011 when he signed on, then thru 2012-14 years as we tried to stabilize our position, get ready for AO, break the shackles of SANFL and get our licence back, then reunify the club, help rebuild the footy department program to AFL standard requires more than 1/2 competence. Nobody else I know has had to re-unify a footy club and fight a football association like we have had to. Would have Brian Cook, who I think is the best CEO in the AFL, been able to do it any better??

The problems started with believing losing a PF by a kick meant we would automatically get success. That's not how it works. Koch and Cardone went off on a media street selling program before the 2015 season kicked off getting ahead of ourselves and unfortunately we have over promised and under delivered since.

KT knows his hand is poor re negotiating with AFL/SANFL/Koch the last few years, and after winning a lot of the fights between 2011-14 or 2011-17 period, he doesn't have the stomach for the big fights anymore.

But KT knows winning a flag is the clincher to say his time at Port has been a success. He wants to leave on that successful note, but has backed the wrong horse, and is paying the price for it.

I agree with your points.
I often wonder if anyone calling KT names etc. etc. have ever spoken to him.
I have, several times, and I believe he is a passionate Port man.

Just remember, we all make mistakes, and, given the opportunity, we correct them. :thumbsu:
What kind of passionate Port person accepts five years of failure?

What kind of passionate Port person trashes a club tradition on the whim of an incompetent head coach?

What kind of passionate Port person allows another club to tell us when we can and can't wear our guernsey?

What kind of passionate Port person refuses to rectify mistakes that can set the club back another decade?

He hasn't corrected the largest mistake under his watch. A mistake that supporters are begging to be fixed. Instead of doing what the very fabric of the club demands he do, he tells us that we need to accept the status quo.

He's cooked.

"We're a long way from where we want to be ultimately but I think our trajectory is good… the landscape is significantly different as we end 2019 than it was when we ended 2018 and Ken has to take a lot of credit for that.

"If we think he needs more time, we will extend it. But right now, it's can we foresee a Ken Hinkley-run football program delivering a premiership model? Absolutely."

So is he a liar or is he incompetent? It's one or the other.

His tone, IMO, is of someone who knows what he's saying is ridiculous but who believes that showing any sort of negativity will hurt the bottom line. I think he's a liar.

His fatal error is failing to understand Port supporters and assuming we can be placated by this sort of bullshit. Still waiting for that accountability KT promised.

When KTs time is up, he needs to go out like Haysman did and call out our s**tty situation.

Can't make money in SA, can't invest to make money in China because the AFL appointed accountant board members wont let us spend. Stuck in debt forever.

Only way he can redeem himself and help save the club.

Agree with this, for Koch as well. Their legacy at the club is destined to be a negative one, but they can certainly partially redeem themselves by ending the spin and starting to actually back what the supporters want on the way out.

Moving to Adelaide Oval was like being handed the goose that laid the golden egg. Massive crowds, shiny new stadium and optimism, NTUA. Since then they have made poor decision after poor decision, Kenny Deckchair, not forcing Ryder and Monfries to take a deal, missed major sponsor. Hinkley's contract extension, extending Voss, trading Wingard, co-captains. I am sure I have missed plenty. Didn't mention China as I dont know the ins and outs (apart from what I have read posted by LR).

If he is going to go out in a blaze of glory the beat direction be could direct his ire would be squarely at our board.

Call them out for backing Ken.

Demand more accountability and a members voice.

I can see the hard hitting questions now.

Mr. Thomas, your campaign seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train. Why are you so popular?
I used to like listening to him. Now he is KG lite bumbling and stumbling his way through interviews. They will just back him in and tell him what a wonderful job he is doing, well done on keeping your incompetent coach and dont listen to those pesky Port supporters. 10th and loving it.

Listened to part of it, I’ll listen to the whole thing later.
Sounds like the fiveAA crew asked some better questions and KT sounded a lot more coherent.
Some message came in from a supporter asking why we aren’t getting an external review when we have performed worse than the Crows over recent years.
KT said the club did an in depth review last year and changed a lot about our footy department with player and coaching changes. So we are on a new path and only one year into this new path.

KT re-unified the club? There are a lot of other fingerprints on that. I cannot recall where he's been a big winner in negotiations.

The reunification was letting our A grade players play in our B's not the other SANFL clubs. The ONE CLUB Merger was probably more important as the ****in' idiots in this state were never going to allow a one step process and yes there were well known and unsung hero's then, but KT did the negotiation to allow a full reunification.

Not without the AFL's muscle. This wasn't won with lone star KT's negotiations skills.

The club seriously must think most of us are half-wits 😡
That’s what grinds the gears the most, the obvious contempt we are treated with. Look I get they see Adelaide fans are ignorant and will lap up anything they are told, but from their SANFL days at other clubs, through dealing with Port people now, how on earth do they think this shit will fly?

Sorry KT it’s not the 1940’s, no matter how big a lie (Ken’s great) and how often you repeat it, we aren’t going to believe it.

They failed to ask why he went to China. I would like to know the answer.
So would I.

Even C4 doesn’t know.

He either came back with 1) a kitbag of cash to pay off / bribe Ken, as was rumoured (by me, but not just me) or 2) an audio of his meeting with Gui in which was specified: “China does not like instability!”

I go for 2. It would’ve had the board of directors ... who, save one, know nothing about China’s innate ability to keep negotiations short and blunt ... crapping paper clips.
