The high profile failures of Tambling and JON (Greg didn't even pick JON) coupled with Richmond's ladder positions have meant that Greg Miller's work has been a little unappreciated.

Kelvin Moore off the rookie list?

Nathan Foley?!

Will Thursfield?!!!

Sure, Greg could have picked Buddy.

But in hindsight his late picks have been superb - and that is usually the difference between 4th and 1st.

1 - High profile failures???? Ones had the best year of his career and is still only 21, the other has only done one full pre-season and turned 20 this year. Being a similar height and weight to Kelvin Moore at the same stage he too might be an integral part of the Richmond Side in 2012 when he reaches 24!

2 - Every club could've had Buddy. Coll could've coughed up Didak and Dane Swan, West Coast could've coughed up Judd. WB, Haw and Tiges all overlooked him with picks. Nobody knew he'd kick a ton at 21, not even Hawthorns recruiting guy who overlooked him.

I just wish Buddy would check himself out on the scoreboard a little more often.

It is not just Kel Moore who deserves recognition. The chemistry in our defence between McGuane, Thursfield and Kel Moore deserves recognition. Kel Moore is a good player but the support and team work between these three players in our defence can not understated.
This is why anyone who says we should sacrifice McGuane to CG17 should be poked in the eye with a sharp stick. We'd be foolish to break up that trio.

I have to take my medicine on this one and own up... l was his biggest critic and am happy ot say l was wrong on this one.

Wanted him cut at the end of last year, happy to own up and say its fanstastic to see him do so well. :thumbsu:

Jackson on the other hand... l do not stand corrected. ;)

Not sure if i heard right but Gary Lyon was talking on MMM before the game today and inferred that he would have Kel Moore in the initial squad of 40 for All Australian ahead of Morris from the bullies...

Fair accolade i reckon ... reckoned he argueably did the best out of anyone on Franklin all year ..

He is a wonderful story that boy ... hats off to the club for sticking with him and hats off to Kel for working his @rse off and becoming what he has :thumbsu:

All the friggin bullshit we hear on this board about bungled draft picks etc ... we should recognise our club and our football dept. for the job they have done with this kid .

He is effectively a gun footballer out of nothing ....

yeah, hats off to them for persevering with Moore, and they have ****ed up with the draft picks....like whats your ****ing point?
FFS, they are a footy dept...if they got that one wrong as well we might as well had the Punt rd Primary Mothers Club running the dept.
Here is a question, which would you prefer? that the footy dept didnt **** up with the draft picks or what the current scenario is? ;)

wake up cogg, point is we may misfired on one, but we've got a few right, **** me the ol Hawks have got a few wrong themselves, passed on Joel Selwood to claim Mitch thorp...took dowler with a first pick, may just cost them a flag partner...No-one has 100% strike rate, I repeat No-one so give credit where it's due:confused:

come on BJ, the dawks got a few wrong yes...but they are persevering with their perceived, by us, "wrong moves", just like we persevered with our percieeved "wrong moves". If they get a couple right...since they are still in "development" stage, just like most of ours, then you might understand the difference. Its just that i get tired of people "trying" to gloss over our totally inept recruiting, by justifying it and using, "lucky dip" project players to do it. ;)

surely you accept that our recruiting has improved immeasurably since evolving from the One man national recruiting network that was GM to the model that includes FJ and now CC...Look at our returns in last couple of drafts and they compare very well with anyone elses

you dont get it do you? Dont give a flying **** if its improved immeasurably since dude. The fact remains that it shouldnt have had to improve immeasurably and when it was required to be at this improved point, i.e. when we had a billion picks of the crop, we ****ed it. Now the recruiters have to make do with dregs...dont you get it? Our chance has been fluffed. You do a dawks when you dont fluff it.
We havent got within a bulls roar of building a team, that will have an extended dominance and the dawks have. They have a raft of recruits that they can shop around without affecting the structure of the overall list. We are shit scared to move 1 or 2 on because we need them badly. Things have to change and change quick..because we look ok on paper and stuff, but once the system catches up to us, we are going to be as close to extinction as we have ever been. ;)

aghh , too right we stuffed it up, was poor management and chronic under resourcing , we were at the table with one hand tied behind our back...Get over it dude, china was a third world country once...the world continues to revolve on its axis, it never ever stands ****en still so WHY DO YOU:eek:

sometimes you are completely off your tree

Name me a football dept . in the history of football that has not f..ked up draft picks ?

(cue rant No. 78 on how shit at recruiting we are:rolleyes:)

We are aware ... blah blah blah ... about our mistakes and short comings over the years ... blah blah blah ....

But how can you look forward when you are forever looking over your f..king shoulder ?

LMAO

between the state and federal govt. we have just had 15-20 mill pumped into our facilities .... yep ... armageddon is just around the corner and that collider thing they are about to switch on in Switzerland is about to swallow us all up in a big black hole :D:p

LMAO

So in Cogga's little fantasy world where no one makes errors apart from the Richmond Coaching panel (and anyone that disagrees with all his bullshit arguments and abuse ), this my friend is how Richmonds list should look like if Cogga had have been our recruitment manager:

2007

2) Trent Cotchin (that is unless Cogga thinks we got that wrong)
18) Alex Rance (assuming he's happy with Rance, that is until Rance turns out a dud)
19) Callan Ward (who were RFC kidding taking Jordan McMahon?!?)
35) Brad Dalziell (what were we thinking taking Mitch bloody Morton?!?)
51) Dean Putt (spoze... not much else left in that draft... best player at the moment until Taylor Walker from Adelaide comes along and kicks 10 each game from a back pocket)

2006

13) Leroy Jetta (Reiwoldt... pathetic decision!)
26) Jarryd Morton (so much better than Shane Edwards - even though only Joel Selwood and Bryce Gibbs are the only two in that draft to play more games than Edwards)
43) Lindsay Thomas (if only we hadnt traded away that draft pick! Far better option that Rooey's pleb cousin Jack)
59) Daniel Connors (yay!!! We possibly got one right, l suppose one in 4 is not a bad ratio. But Cogga reserves the right to cane the club if Daniel turns into a crack-dealing headcase. We should've known better!)
73) Why did we not just keep D-Rod?!?! Port had "the information"... the PLOT THICKENS!

2005

8) Matthew Stokes (he got selected at 61, 15 other clubs overlooked him 4 times over, but how could we have got this so bloody wrong! I want heads to roll, disgrace!
24) Garrick Ibbotson (did orite in the NAB Rising Star this year didnt he! We shouldve treated him as our project player, not bloody Hughes or Casserly)
40) Robbie Warnock (idiots arent we... now we have to trade away our 2nd rounder to get him!)

2004

THE DADDY OF ALL **** UPS

1) Lance Franklin (Cogga, Buckanara, The bloke sells the Records, The Bali Bombers, Steddy Eddie even CairoTiger knew that he was the biggest superstar ever to play the game... even with the off-field womanising and love of illegal activities - Terry you are a dick head)

4) Brett Deledio (Gary Glitter can spot an eye for young talent, why couldnt we. Hawks were always going to go Roughead, Griffin to the Dogs... we could have just let Lids slip a little. Easy peazy!)

12, 16 & 20) Brett Prismall, Nathan Van Berlo & Matthew Bate
(Thank-you very much!! See... wasnt that hard now was it. And Jesus Christ... Ottens goes, and how much have we seen from letting Big Judas go to the Cats!)

36) Justin Sherman (everyone knows he's the next Leppa... makes McGuane look like a disabled Presti!)

Stop Stop Stop!!! Didnt need to select Limbach or Graham.... with all our 100% selections, we couldve just played 2 men short on our list! The envy of the whole comp!

----

What l love about how you have a fascination of comparing us to the Hawks. How great they are, how ****ing shit we are. Well then, here's how well the Hawks are going:

Since their glamour year of 2004, this is the talent or not-so-talented players they've been son RIGHT with:

2005

3) Xavier Ellis (priority pick... no world beater, 34 games)
6) Beau Dowler (3 games)
14) Grant Birchall (62 games - BIG HIT)
18) Max Bailey (4 games - even Cartledge played 2 for us)
22) Beau Muston (hasnt even crossed the white line yet)
38) Travis Tuck (earnt for his mum getting poked by Michael - we got Shane though!)

2006

6) Mitchell Thorp (1 game, couldve had Joel Selwood who was pick 7)
24) Brent Renouf (5 games)
33) Jarrod Morton (8 games... HIT)
56) Gary Moss (1 games... Rayzorwire likes him, but who knows?!?!)

2007

12) Cyril Rioli (22 games... BIG HIT, but we got Cotchin!)
29) Brendon Whitecross (who?)
45) Stewy Due (the people eater... can you imagine if we hadve selected him!)

HINDSIGHT.... BUT RICHMOND ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT MAKE HUMAN ERRORS IN A LOTTERY.

You're a legend Cogga

Great post Wally, but you should know better than to make long posts in reply to Cogga. He'll quote the whole massive post, bold one line, and get you on that one. The other 60 lines where he got beaten will be ignored. Ie....

HINDSIGHT.... BUT RICHMOND ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT MAKE HUMAN ERRORS IN A LOTTERY.

You're a legend Cogga

man wtf are you on about....the bottom line is that with our high picks over the stretch we have ****ed up. JR at 13 hasnt proven anything yet. He is in the same bracket as all the others from the opposition teams that you suggest are not up to it or as yet not proven.
You tend to make opinions on opposition players, for e.g 3) Xavier Ellis (priority pick... no world beater, 34 games), but you look at it from your one eyed tiger angle. Just think if you were an opposition supporter making an opinion on JR? whats the ****ing difference.

FFS, we have posters here wanting to trade for Thorp.
As for Stewart Dew, well, lets just say that they did what we did, they spent one of their last picks on a player that they might need, a HF who thumps the ****ing ball from 50, has size to mix it, has tasted success. What do we do? we get Kent the legend Kingsley...do you see the ****ing difference dip stick?
Listen dude, one thing you have to really try and do when you assess players from other clubs, think about how others assess ours first.
How about thinking about it in terms of who from our list and our kids would have opposition clubs knocking on our door. Then look at all the players you have mentioned above and who we would roll the red carpet out for.
Again, i repeat, I am not employed or are paid top dollar for my "expertise" in spotting talent. Others were and were "SACKED", because you get "SACKED" when you **** it up. You dont get "SACKED" if you do what you get paid for. The person who was sacked was there when we had to get it ****ing right, because when you trawl the bottom, you do it because you want to fill your list with the best talent, and then with the lucky dips later on, build a team that has what it takes to kick butt. All we are doing now, because of that total **** up, is adlibbing to the supporters to give them some hope. Searching for positives from the no. 56 picks and the no 70 picks...and making excuses like you do. 90% of the positives from our drafting have come via the rookie list or low end draft picks. And from all those, the majority are still in the "has potential" bracket. The only 2 out and out comfirmed positives, from all the picks in the last 4 years are Lids & Cotchin, and then add the 2 rookie listed Foley & Thursty as the next confirmed positives, with Moore & Mcguanne as not bads, and thats about the end of it. The rest is all pie in the sky, hope and dream stuff. Even I have seen signs from those in the hope and dream bracket, but once bitten twice shy dude, i tend to wait and see if what we hoped for turns into REALITY. DO you know when it becomes reality? IT does when we stop talking about a player doing that one thing that week, or did you see that the other, and all we do is talk about is that he just keeps on doing it....

Do you understand fool? I mean, FFS, the good old tiger culture is rife isnt it? Talk it up as much as you can and they forget about "REALITY". ;)

I just wish Buddy would check himself out on the scoreboard a little more often.

Yes many had the option of taking Buddy, all had reservations because he came with baggage. Hawthorn took the chance and for now it is paying dividends for them. I hope for Hawthorn and the game he stays focused and becomes the legend he could be.

I think GM would be feeling pretty good with the choices he has made for us. He has left us in good shape.
