Excellent commentator. Shites all over Taylor, Russell, and the many other latent homo-erotic meat heads who call the game. Long may she threaten your deep seated insecurities about your own masculinity.

And here it is. It was only a matter of time before another pretentious ******** from the army of the politically correct threw their 2 cents in. Your convenient argument about us somehow feeling threatened by her because she is a woman is an absolute cop-out, and it's getting really old. Maybe you should try and get it through that thick head of yours that it just might have something to do with the fact that the overwhelming majority of footy viewers think she's a rubbish commentator, rather than this deluded notion that she's a brilliant commentator who is only facing all this negativity because she's a woman. And you know what? If there are people who don't like that fact that she's gotten this position largely due to her gender (and don't deny that Ten had an alterior motive when they gave it to her), can you really blame them? Go burn some bra's idiot.

make sure you remember to come up for air, champ.

Seriously, thread after thread, post after post about Underwood. Your all ****ing obsessed. Do you honestly think there would be so much criticism of her performance if she were a man? Taylor is a woeful commentator, so is Russell. Blight can be barely be bothered to open his mouth sometimes. Yet that is fine. She is in no way as bad as many commentators. Much of the criticism she recieves is due to her gender. That is an obvious fact.

Have you actually read the title of this thread mate? That may explain why post ater post is about her. Secondly, there is no doubt that if she was a man she would still be facing heavy criticism. But then again, if she was a man she wouldn't have got this job in the first place. If she is recieving more criticism it's got a lot to do with this. And if all this criticism is to do with her gender, why is it that so many of her detractors are women? And don't give us this crap about commentators like Dwayne Russell and Malcolm Blight escaping criticism because your just ignoring what you don't want to see. Just out of curiosity, what is it specifically that makes her such a good commentator, as you claim?

I think you've got the wrong Idea mate, I don't think the majority of us would have a problem with a woman calling in a game. It's the fact that she has a whining, nasally drone that she let's out when her mouth opens up. It sounds terrible. Fair enough she gets a few calls wrong but she is still only learning the cal of the game but it's the voice that is off putting. I think she would just be better in a special comments role or even a boundary rider.

Reffering to her picture, I was actually surprised when I saw her the other week, I thought she would have been a bit rougher looking than Caroline Wilson

Male commentators, no matter how bad, do not elicit thousands of posts about their performance. They do not have facebook pages demanding that they are fired. Is Underwood so bad, so much worse than other callers, that she deserves that level of criticism? Is her performance so bad that she deserves to be the most reviled caller in the AFL? Is it just coincidence that she is the first female caller in AFL history and also the most despised? I kind of doubt that is mere coincidence.....

As for your question re her calling ability, i would say that she is not a great commentator but is better than many alternatives. She has a very solid knowledge of the game from a statistical and historical point of view. Her play by play call is concise, and for the most part in keeping with the ebb and flow of the play. That said, she is sometimes overly dramatic in her call - but then so is McAveny, who is a celebrated caller. She is not employed as a special comments person, or commentator on strategy, and so avoids wading into that area. Rather, she plays to her strength’s and leaves those aspects to others in the box. I also think she works well with Commetti and Lane who clearly enjoy calling with her.

Again, i don't think she is a great commentator, but i think her performance has been good on the whole (she will also improve with time). Whatever the case, i don't think her performance has been anywhere nearly bad enough to attract the kind of criticism she seems to get. It seems over the top to me.

At first i found the tone or pitch of her voice a bit 'jarring' and off putting. So i can appreciate what your saying there. But now i don't really notice that. Maybe it is just a matter of getting used to something different..

What do ya know? I put on channel 10 and there is Kellie Underwood lol. Good I leave home at 3 for the Gabba lol.

Matthew Lloyd called Shannon Byrnes "James Kelly" with about a minute to go in the first quarter, even with the benefit of replay. Kelli Underwood would be getting crucified on here if she had have done that.

Agreed. Made a miserable afternoon even more so.

Your boys gave us a footy lesson today, good win. Hope we can learn from having watched the best in action today.

She sounds superb when paired with Lloyd. Amazing that he kicked so many goals with down syndrome

I'd say that she attracts a bit more criticism largely because unlike any other commentators, it's quite clear that Channel Ten have an agenda for keeping her on (and putting her on in the first place), on top of the general consensus that she is no good at it. They clearly stated last year that they would give her a contract this year only if she was well-received by the public. Obviously they lied. Naturally she is going to face more hostility from the public (most of which can't stand her commentary) when you consider that people feel that they are being forced to listen to her when they want to watch a game because Ten have somehow convinced themselves that they are generating good publicity out of this. It may seem harsh on her, but thats just how it is. Why try and force their viewers to endure something that they obviously don't want or like? If you enjoy her commentary then that's fine, but the truth is the vast majority don't and never will.

Mate, I am so not articulate (or sober) right now so all i'll post is:

^^^^^ This! Effen' spot on! :thumbsu:

Fella, all networks have agendas with their stable of commentators. Why so heavy on 10's? Walls is so past it, it's seriously not funny. Darcy? Forget it. Oh hang on, Kelli's a woman. Riiiiiiiiiight.

She's getting alot better. Not cliche after cliche anymore.

I know all commentators muck up surnames but loved it how she mucked up Melbournes new player Gysberts (I know thats probably not the right spelling), and corrected herself and still pronounced it wrong the second time. "Gispe.. Sorry, that should be Guysbet" Ah no Kelli - You still got it wrong.

Like I said, I think she is getting better but her voice still annoys the hell out of me.

Male commentators, no matter how bad, do not elicit thousands of posts about their performance. They do not have facebook pages demanding that they are fired.

This is an absolute outrage. Surely there are groups about how shite Walls is? I am going to look into this and start one if there isnt.
