Injury Kennedy Out for 3 months

Going off on a tangent here but did anyone else receive a gloating email/sms from a purple muppet after the news on Kennedy?

Looks like Nat Fyfe copped the bad karma.

Doesn't really lesson the pain of losing JK though.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

... nor is he (McInnes) strong enough to take on AFL Fullbacks. If we cant at least pick someone who is going to physically provide a contest, then we have to look at options other than replacing like for like.

McInnes is 93kg. That's size enough for a KPP at AFL level considering that Brown is only 1kg heavier. This talk of yours about McInnes not being strong enough to provide a contest isn't accurate. At 93kg, McInnes may or may not win a battle of strength, but he will at least be able to provide a contest.

If McInnes' strength proves to be insufficient, he should change how he plays his role by simply choosing to not stand and wrestle his opponent. McInnes is nimble enough to be a lead and mark type.

McInnes is tall and heavy enough to be of some concern to the opposition. All the better for WC if the opposition didn't pay him enough respect.
He would be a better option in the forward line than Lycett, IMO.

Also, Kennedy has offered very little at best defensively this year. Even if McInnes brought little too, WC are no worse off.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

I think your confusing pure mass with strength tess.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Ashley McIntosh and Andrew McDougall would have been about the same playing weight, but McIntosh would have bent McDougall into some sort of balloon animal in a contest.

I'm aware that mass doesn't equate to strength, but you're making McInnes sound like an incompetent weakling - which isn't the case. Like I said, McInnes may not win the contests of strength, but it's enough size to at least provide a contest.

This is ****ing horse shit man. I was absolutely spitting with rage when i saw Fox Footy news a few hours ago in the gym.
Our best 3 forwards from last year out for basically the whole season? What a joke.

I'm known for my cynical thoughts but the rest of the season could become pretty damn cruel for us supporters.

Our main strength from last year was our tall forward line, and it's in tatters at the moment. Baptism of fire for Mcginnes? Chuck him in there and see what the kid can come up with? Probably not, but we don't have many other offensive options. Weedon?

Ugh, i can't even think straight after hearing this. All i can say is that the game against the roos isn't a shoo in because it's at patersons anymore like i thought. Gonna be quite hard if you ask me. **** my life.

McInnes showed in the pre-season that he's got a good understanding of the requirements of his forward line role and the physical attributes to back it up.

Won't be winning any contests through strength, but will hold his own and bring to ball to ground most of the time.

Very much doubt he'll come in though anyway.

McGovern had a scan and it's just a cork, he's fine no torn bicep- he played out his game on Saturday and has been training.

Replacements for JK

First - Mitch brown, big body and game experience. Will provide a contest at FF. If he is injured then he is out for the moment.

Second - Fraser Mcginnes, looked okay in the preseason games and looks big enough to provide a contest.

Third - Bring a small in.

Personally i don't think we should chuck darls to FF because i don't remember him outmarking anyone in a stationary test of strength can you? For me, all darlings brilliance has been when he takes marks on the lead and at a stretch when he doubles back. A typical helicopter kick by rosa into the forward line to a stationary Darls against... Nick Maxwell? Dustin Fletcher? Mcpharlin? Harry Taylor? Seriously... how do you think that will turn out.

For me mitch brown is the option. If we can't use him then leave darls where he is and chuck mcginnis to FF to at least create a contest and bring the ball to ground.

Cox plays forward most of the game, Lynch pinch hits in ruck. Bring in someone who can run their bollocks off.

Eagles still looking ok, this isn't ideal but it isn't season over.

Maybe Naitanui can play forward permanently? If he can do well and learn how to be a good forward it really make us a better side in the long run.

I have confidence in Cox being able to handle more game time in the ruck. I don't like cox as a forward players run around him and once the ball hits the ground he is gone.

Correct. keep the current structure as it is and try and find a make shift FF. Mitch Brown is suited and can do a role for the team.

K Langdon . i heard say Kennedy will see a specialist tomorrow and there is a small chance of just having a two week rest , but the most likely scenerio is surgery on Saturday .

The ankle capsule which holds the tibia / fibula and attaches to the ankle is unstable and a srew will be inserted to stabilise the joint . Doesn't sound great but hoping for some miracle  ... just thought i would tell you the gorrey details .

Good news McGovern is okay

I want to think of the +s of this because we all know the -s of it.

  • We have been bordering on being too tall. The ideal set up is 3 talls and we have been playing 4 most of the time. Nic Nat or Cox have been up there most of the time. So we can go back to having a more balanced set up of 3 talls.
  • This gives a chance for Darling to really establiosh himself deeper in the forward 50 which I know he can do.
  • I think Shephard will come in. A Selwood to starting 21. Shep to sub.
  • Brown and Schofield being out gives Brennan a chance at 2 games in a row at least. Better to force him to have a game now rather than late in the season.
  • By about round 16-17 JK, Embers and Nico will be back and by round 22 hopefully in form. Huge having 3 "fresh" (not sore as long as rehab goes well) players going into finals in such an even season will be huge.
  • Other teams may think we are less of a threat. I know we are on top of the ladder but there may be a bit of relaxing against us with so many players out.
It sucks no doubt but it would suck more if we were 0 and 5.

Real bummer.

But we did have a very good run last year with injury and there are plenty of other sides with their far share this year as well.

We have been able to find respectable replacements for Lecca and Nico with Hill and Hams but Kennedy will be harder to replace as he was the central pillar of our tall forward strategy

OH ****!!

Well at least it's not a season-ender for him.

Still confident that if we have the current outs back fit for the end of the year then we are capable of beating any opposition at any venue.

Just hoping to find solace in the fact that opportunities will be given to players that have been outside selection reckoning and that under such circumstances, is when many players in the past have taken the next step. Think Gardiner doing his knee which allowed for the rapid development of Cox.

stick lynchy in the goal square put Browny on a HF/F and play Darling as a lead up CHF

FWD Hill-Lynch-Cox
HFWD Brown-Darling-Masten

edit;if brown inj serious then K-O-B-E

Brown was drafted as a CHF / FF so I'd be giving him an extended run up forward.

Lynch is a better CHF but both can rotate from FF. Cox and NN float through on a semi permanent basis and we are plenty tall.

McInnes and Lycett are other choices but I'd rather have Brown stay in and replace Kennedy with a Sheppard or Stevens.
