What are you trying to imply with the "~" symbol, Jimmy?
Trying to compliment you on a classic subtle post...... ~ implying "over the top" or top stuff.

I assumed your reference of playing in the bush related to winning a few hic cups. Maybe I got it wrong? :D

Purely a play on his words implying future results.

Dont know about you but I'm so bored with no more AFL or RL this weekend.

I'm actually procrastinating. I've finished the interesting work I had to do, so now only the boring stuff is left.

I hadn't even noticed Hawkk's error.

I agree on both accords.

ICC World XI vs Australia is a joke. :(

"hic cups" = trophies won by hick teams playing in the bush.
You must be really suffering from with draw if you can pick me up on that.

A dose of Premier League mixed in with a game of cricket will cure your obvious need ;)

Keep it to the footy please people, there's a S&C board elsewhere on site if you want to get into the political stuff, thanks.
Sorry.

I was trying to characterise the president of the football club, not make political statements.

How naive of me. My bad.

There was/is nothing wrong from my pov with your posts Mr.L. The subsequent starting debate it triggered re some of it's contents aren't really what this forum is concerned with is all.

Not bad at all, it was a good post, enjoyed reading it.

If there is a man that can get us 40 000 members and 45 000+ through the gates as well as a flag it is he.

History shows that when Kennett is in charge populations actually shrink.

Where you pull this pie in the sky assumption from is way beyond my comprehension and totally unfounded in this mans previous ability or history.

I refer to Victorians on the Move and hope it doesnt become Hawthorn Supporters on The Move.
Check your history,before typing please.
You need to be careful about the conclusions you draw. In this case you have inferred that Kennett is responsible for the exodus of Victorians to other parts, and that could potentially be a similar occurrence at the HFC level.

Whilst I might check my history, which I do as a matter of course, you may be well advised to think about the cause and effect of historical events before making ludicrous statements.

Just stating what actually happened.
Fact people left when Jeff was president of Victoria as shown by a decline in population.
This trend reversed on his dethroneing.
Regardless of personal popularity if someone as decisive as Jeff is in charge he alienates people to the point of leaving there homes and state.
I am just wondering if his ability to drive people away have a negative effect on the supporter base.
While you Arupist dont seem to need explanation for pie in the sky claims stating that support will increase to 45,000 as well as a flag.

You don't think that the trend reversed because of lack of opportunities in other states? The influx of Victorians to Queensland halted because people could not find continuous work and found it very difficult to establish themselves, particularly around the Gold Coast. So they moved home. I doubt whether they said to themselves after the Vic election "Well Jeff has gone, so I'll quit my job and go back to Melbourne".

FWIW, I do not support the 40,000 members and 45,000 attendance claims either. Actually, I am unsure how you could draw the conclusion that I did. But drawing conclusions is not your strongpoint, so I'll let it pass.

The facts are the facts

Kennett in charge means people leave Kennett goes people come back.

You gloss it any way you want annecdotal evidence, in the media at the times, suggested many people left, purely because he was there and came back when he was gone.

The numbers back it up.

http://www.immi.gov.au/statistics/publications/popflows/c6_1.pdf

Population GrowthAll State and Territory populations except Tasmania are estimated tohave increased in the twelve months to June 1999, mainly throughnatural increase and net overseas migration.Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory had thehighest growth rates (1.55,1.55 and 1.47 per cent respectively).

Victoria’s population growth ratewas 1.13 per cent, which wasa little higher then the national average of 1.10 per cent.Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia are all estimated to have gained population through interstate migration in 1998–99.Tasmania lost most of its population through interstate migration (3,669 persons) and net overseas migration (114 persons).

Can we have an end to this now?

Figures would have to show growth prior to 1992( pre Kennett) ,then the period from 92 to 2002 (Kennett Era) then the figures after(post Kennett) to be relevant to the argument.

Any how my original argument was he isnt the mesiah and draw 40000 to 4500 supporters and win us a flag.

Apparently he cant play Fullback ,Centre Half Forward or Full Forward neither is he a Pacy Midfielder.
