His time is up if someone offers us a great deal. They won't so he will stay. Kingsley is far form the worst AFL forward going around. 90 goals in the last two seasons (season and a half if you take out games missed) is a very good return. Especially considering he gets the best defender each week. He has his weaknesses (contested marks/physicality) but overall is a pretty handy player.

If he goes we literally have no one to kick goals for us.

As Jubs said, with a key forward taking the main defender relieves the pressure of Kingsley being the No. 1 forward. He's a proven goalkicker and can still play a big part in our future.

I'd be quite happy to let him go in exchange for something.

Haynes for Kingsley perhaps?

Who's going to kick our goals, Seb?

That's a valuable question, but Kent Kingsley can hardly kick goals from the VFL side.

In a way, I'm rather ****ed off with the coaching pannel, along with the vast majority of Geelong supporters. We (Geelong as a whole, the coaching pannel mainly) have dug ourselves into a hole. They (the coaching pannel) have been incredibly rigid and refused to play the young forwards - McCarthy and Playfair. Instead of actually showing our potential and giving them some much needed confidence and experience in the big time (See what North have done with Petrie, Roos with Robert-Thompson), they have persisted with keeping them back, refusing to believe they are ready to perform at the highest level. And of course I'm not involved with the club, so I don't really *see* what goes on, but Playfair looked cherry-ripe throughout the season to me, yet was constantly ignored. Must have felt pretty disheartened for 6 months.

What does that have to do with Kingsley's departure? Well perhaps if Kingsley and Mooney were traded (For something decent in return after all, Kent Kingsley must be worth something - he was a fantastic acquisition to the side last season chipping in with a 'measly' 50+ goal tally) the likes of Playfair, Gardiner and McCarthy might actually be given a respectable amount of game time. It's funny, we say periodically throughout the season, "Kingsley isn't performing, why is this hack whose most admirable attribute is his hand flapping even in the side? Surely we should be giving one of those young guys a go, they can't be any worse than that lazy hand flapping forward!" yet when it comes to the crunch (trade time) everybody wants to hang on to him... And wait, how's this for logical; whilst they're defending Kingsley with all their might (the same people berating him during the course of the season) they want to trade one of those young blokes (A potential superstar in Bartel) who apparently....could do just as much as Kent earlier on in the H&A games.

It's a do or die decision, Kingsley will always believe it's HIS forward line, he'll want to be the boss, and the better half of me says Thompson will let such action take place. In my opinion, our youngsters will struggle to bloom whilst Kent Kingsley and Mooney get sufficient game time. That's partly why I'm against a Rawlings trade. Rawlings will just replace Kingsley and sure we might win a VFL flag again, but we'll be wailing with pain over our AFL team.

If we're going to keep Kingsley, then fine... Just play the likes of Playfair and McCarthy and I'll be happy.

Oh.. and for the record, in principle I agree, Kent Kingsley can kick goals and is a decent forward.

As Catman and JUBJUB have said earlier, Kingsley can still be quite valuable if given the opportunity to play as the 3rd key forward. He is a decent mark for his size and is fairly good when the ball hits the ground, but we need to try to expose the opposition's 2nd or 3rd best defender to this, not their best.

Bottom line is that Kingsley is never going to be able to consistently hold down a key forward spot in a side which should be aiming to make the finals.

He's still good value, we just need to use him more wisely.

Seb I take your point but whats the point of trading him for under market value?

Taking an early third rd pick for him, which is what clubs will offer, is just madness! You also suggested Haynes who is a good HFF but he is never going to hold down a KP. I just don't see him being able to kick 50 goals a season. If Kent is given the full year at Full Forward he has proven he will kick 2.5 goals a game. He is never going to be a star but 50 goals a year is pretty handy.

If we were able to get a quality KP replacement for him like a Whitnall or a Rawlings then I'm all for including him in a package deal. If we don't get one or two of these players then I think we would be foolish to get rid of him.

Never suggested under market value, and I'm pretty sure we could use him effectively when trade week comes around. David Haynes has potential and is reasonably young, which is always a bonus. Kent could also perhaps be shifted off to Carlton for something?

At the expense of much needed experience, though? Hell, if Kingsley could work in tandem with the likes of Playfair and McCarthy I agree, he'd be an exception addition to the forward line. The problem is, Geelong seem to be unable to channel their force down different paths. It seems that even when we had Mooney and Kingsley, only one of them was the go to man, which kind of took away the aspect of unpredictability we were creating (That is, our oppoents were supposed to be bemused by our structure, which in principle, should have been relatively effective and potent - Rocca and Tarrant. "Who are they going to kick it to, they have 3 main targets, Mooney, Kingsley and Johnson).

I can see the logic there, but it's becoming clearer by the day Geelong will end up with Rawlings - despite what you read. He suits the Thompson mold, and we're prepared to pay him a healthy salary, thus, it's bon voyage Kent.

not sure on the stats but i know kent has been our leading goalkicker for the year and hasnt played that many games. I agree mooney has to go hes had enough goes but kingsley is a proven goalkicker. The whole team has had a bad year i'd hate to see kent go.

Put McCarthy Kinglsey in the same team rather than pick one over the other. Kingsleys strength is on the lead whilst matty can take a good pack mark. Give em both a chance
