Polak would have to be a target now. Also we need to try and draft KPP, like Sellar (although his value has plummeted IMHO, and I think we could pick him up at 15-16). Do we trade out to get better picks, do we trade for other players, I don't know. But I do think Polak would look better in the trecolore than he currently is over to the west.
I am not sure Polak has to be a target. Sometimes talent is not everything. Sometimes it takes more and the big question is does Polak have what it takes. In terms of talent he does. He is as good a contested marker as you would get but he is seriously inconsistent and there have been some questions asked about his attitude.

Its a risk but like in everything, you have to be really careful whether risk is worth the potential return. Time will tell but I somehow doubt AFC would consider him. What Hentschel's injury does, it just about guarantees that Gibson will be kept on when maybe there was a question mark there.

As for Sellar, I would be REALLY surprised if he fell that far down the order. I expect him to go top 10 and we are likely to have a pick in the 12-14 range.

What we could see is Meesen used more as a key forward, thats if he sticks around which is still a bit iffy.

Kent Kingsley, you can't be serious. No quick f
ixes this time. If we are goind to rebuild let's do it properly.

Kent is not the man for us - he is another notoriously poor shot for goal. We have enough already (Sarge,Kenny, Bodey, Thommo on a bad day, Macca on the run) who are poor in the department - although no-one as bad as Leigh Harding.

He is also too similar to the types of players that are there - leading players.

I have looked closely at the draft and I think we can pick up a good KPP with our first and second pick. It has to be someone who can take a grab and who has a bit of presence or leg speed. I will not name names at this stage but we can and must find some KPP for next year.

I would not mind having a look at Polak, but not at a great cost. We need to get 10 year players into the side as most of our great players are now only a few years away from retirement. This means keeping your first draft picks and trying to snag another if we can. If Meeson does not want to stay we need ot get something good for him.

With Acker, Polak, Spider, Tarrant (possibly) all on the market the chances of getting a good young player get even better.

I would try and get young Bell back to SA too - quick and tough he is the type of player we need to give us some movment through the field. he appears to be on the periphery of the Melbourne team with the devleopment of some of their younger players and he could be a good swap for one of players - a Reilly for example.

I would also be looking at sides who are close to their salary cap such as WCE. Players such as Butler may be expendable and would add considerably to our midfield.

A few months ago I would have looked at making four changes to our list. The events of the last week have created a situaiton where we will need to make at least 5- 6 changes to rejuvenate our side with players like Hentschell out indefintely.

With good trading a la Blight we can secure some mid range players which can add pace to our side (they tend to come cheaper than big blokes) and we can use the higher picks to get our 10 year players.

if he has grown to a full ruckman's height of 200cm his value will skyrocket. He was playing under-done in the u/18 championships too.

At the start of the year, I was saying that Sellar could go higher than Gibbs. Since then he has had a massive slump in form since the Championships. I have seen 2 okay games since then. It's highly possible he could still go 5-7, but with the strength of the draft, I can see him still on the board when it comes to us, and then kill kill kill, he's ours.

I would be extremely surprised if Port pass him up.

Yes, I would consider Polak. Good talent, can play either forward or back and pinch hit in the ruck if required.
I wouldnt...but then again I think half his problems are he seems to be a mummys boy..so maybe a move could be good...or bad

And another player I wouldn’t mind targeting is Llane Spaanderman. He’s 198cm, 99kg and only 20 years of age. Watched him a few weeks back playing for East Perth and I was very impressed, has a great pair of hands and is extremely athletic. He was drafted 18th so he obviously has a ton of talent, it’s just about whether he’s focused for AFL footy. I wouldn’t mind taking a punt on him considering our lack of quality KPP’s.
If a report in the paper last week is any indication... L Angwin Board

Edit: I best remove this

No. He has some serious work to do in getting his attitude and committment to playing footy sorted out. It could pay off, but it would be a massive risk.

I actually disagree on this one because I think attitude and commitment are the easiest to change as long as the talent is there. At best, Tarrant is a good player. Coaching personnel can work on his other weaknesses.

Just reflect on this: the Fev was crying out to be picked at a bargain price last year. Many clubs, incl Crows and Power passed on him because of so-called attitude/commitment issues. Talent was never in doubt. Look what a year he's had. (FWIT the Fev could be leading you to a premiership now instead of waiting for if and when the Pav decides to come back home - that may actually not eventuate considering how the dockers are going). Talented KPP do not grow on trees and personally I would always support picking up such a player then work on their rough edges.

I don't think we can afford to get burnt by another Angwin-esque headcase. It's just too big a risk considering what we'd have to give up. The club has really focused on recruiting guys with good characters in the last couple of years, and trading for Taz would be totally at odds with that philosophy. Believe me, I saw him out at 6am in the weeks following that alleged assault incident, when his committment was already being questioned. If there ever was a time to pull your head in, and lay low for a while, that was it. The fact he wasn't willing to do that says a lot about his mindset to me.

There is no way we should go after Rusling unless for cheap. Collingwood have huge wraps on him, for why? I don't know. He was an absolute surprise packet to be taken so early and has done hardly anything in the VFL. All Collingwood fans are creaming themselves over this kid but doesn't look that good to me.

Kingsley may find a new lease of life in Adelaide. If he comes cheap, why not?

5th round draft pick (incase some other clubs were interested, and rumoured to take him in the PSD).

OR

We get him in the PSD for free.

If anyone else wants to get him earlier, well good luck to them :thumbsu:

Just read on the Geelong board we can take Kent for Meesen AND then sweeten the deal with our third rounder

:D :D :D :D that

For the price Collingwood would be asking (1st rounder + Meesen and/or Reilly), I'd rather get Sean Rusling, Adelaide boy with a massive future.

I remember during the Port vs Pies game a couple of weeks back, Den compared his movement and style to a young Phil Carman and although that's a monumental wrap I have to admit I agreed.

My sentiments exactly. Rusling is the one we should target, rather than a Pavlich or other fully established forward. The only problem with this scenario is that Collingwood are noted for their 'Rhyce Shaw is worth your first pick and 2 players at the next draft' type attitude.

I don't want Kingsley.:thumbsd:. I agree with DT, he is more of a carbon copy of Welsh except he is taller. Both are quick on the lead, if we have both on the same team, we will be too one dimentional. Rusling is a great talent as well, also a very quick on the lead. Kingsley, Rusling and Welsh are all the same type of players and theres only one spot available for their type.

Spot on.

Kingsley needs to be spoonfed the ball on the lead or to get handballs over the top in the goal square. No thanks. Tarrant and Polak would be a waste of time too. Wasn't Polak one of the 'Big 3'?

Are any of those guys going to do better than Welsh, Perrie and McGregor?

Responses seem to be half and half. I personally think we’ll take a good look at him.

But the odds are now looking good for Justin Westhoff, I think he's a big chance to be drafted now. :thumbsu:

I wouldn't hand off a draft pick for him but if he was available in a pre-season draft, he might be an okay short-term (3-4 years) forward option. You'd love to find another key forward/goalkicker through the trade period but if that doesn't work, why not take a punt on someone like that. Personally, I;d prefer to have someone like Jordan McMahon to throw into our midfield mix than chuck away a draft pick for an average forward. Or are there any Mark Stevens out there on the fringe somewhere, Mr Fantasia?

Andrew MacDougall? Henry Playfair? No spot for Courtney Johns at Essendon next year with Lloyd and Lucas in. Justin Longmuir... (shudder) Tim Boyle? Heath Grundy (why did we miss him in the first place?)

Carl I think you will find Reg plays his best footie at the SCG where there is less space.

He does get found out on the larger ground with pace.

I would be looking at the sides with salary cap problems - they are the ones most likely to off load players - WCE - for example. Butler could be a good get. Has pace, has skills would add to our mix.

Keep high draft picks for best player - but have qualities we are looking for - KPP who can take a mark and quick running midfield player.
