Like everything good in sports commentary we just can't leave it alone. Was good as a cricket analyst who made some funny jokes, in small doses. But they had to give him a gimmick, put him on too often and the humour is forced*

*Bit tough to bag Kerry when The Hayden Way (tm) and our babbling ex coach are commentating so often.

Can definitely understand why he is divisive but I like him. Clearly knows his cricket and provides some good insight at times. I feel like some of his jokes aren't as funny as he (and the other commentators) think they are, but even in the last Test a couple of his comments got a chuckle out of me.

People are seriously whingers or just not funny these days.

If you cant laugh at Skull then seriously what do you find funny.

We already have enough PC in this world.

Skull is one of the last ones going around that pushes the envelope for everyone to enjoy.
For me it has nothing to do with being 'PC.' I just think that he tries way too hard. Not to mention that his laugh is like acid coming out of my ears.

ABC Kerry was best Kerry. Loved hearing him paired up with Aggers, Harsha, Glen Mitchell or Jim Maxwell. The chemistry just worked. Comes across as far too manufactured on Fox, especially when every joke is used as social media content material.

This. Didn’t get repeated ad nauseum, he was with commentators who were very cricket focused and witty - with respect to the current team who DO have it in them to be insightful but too often get carried away with Kerry’s schtick - it was a humorous side light of the cricket rather than a focus.

If I had to hear that stupid exchange about Ian Smith eating for two days straight during the first test again I would have put a lamp stand through the TV Super Hans style.

What is with ‘Howie’ and this persona of trying to be one of the boys and adopting this character of being some real larrikin?

He does actually have some good cross-code knowledge, I’ll give him that, and he’s worked a broad section of sports to get to where he is.

But I don’t understand where these ‘we know what YOURE like Howie’ comments come from - is there something from his personal life (not scandalous, just generally) that I’m missing?

He's fine. Yes Fox has done their best to ruin him like they manage to ruin basically every commentator by flanderising him, but at the end of the day he's still just that funny old codger that you can tell is there purely because he just loves chatting about cricket. He's clearly got the game knowledge when he gets serious, and he genuinely has some absolute lines and an infectious laugh.

Give me Isa, Skull and Howie/Ian Smith for a session and I'm in heaven. No ego, no "well I would have done this so these guys clearly are wrong" from campaigners that haven't played the game in 20 years. Same reason the AFL commentry is garbage so often. Get commentators who don't spend their time talking about how they would have done things when its been decades and the game has moved on.

Dad jokes are "pushing the envelope" and people who don't like them are PC. Right.
