Someone tell me why we didn't get Sheedy?
When going for the Dees job he was asked what he could offer the club? His answer was spirit.

Jeez do we need some of that now. Our club plays for nothing at the moment. Our older players probably thought they should've won a premiership in 2004 or 2005 and are now not up to it or interested. Our younger players never seem to be any gems. Where are our Selwoods or Franklins? We have a president that doesn't want to be there and the MCC melbourne supporters never sign up.

Fiztroy Demons it seems.

By the way are the Melbourne board enjoying their pick of Dean Bailey? Bailey seems to talk like he knows something but his coaching actions are showing he is nothing more but than an assistant coach. I am sure Sheedy would have a win on the board for the club right now.
 
Bailey's gameplan can't work with our players. They aren't skilled enough, aren't fast enough, and as decision makers they are the pits. It would be a great plan if we had the right players but we simply don't, and after 5 rounds of floggings, quite frankly it's pathetic that he hasn't recognised this and altered the game plan to suit the players. More training isn't the answer, Dean. Perhaps Sheedy's simpler brand of footy would have been more appropriate in the short term, but I'll give Bailey a chance, we'll see how he is going a few years down the track with a half decent list that can execute exactly what he wants out of the team.
 
Last year all we did was complain about injuries why we weren't in the 8. This year its our skills aren't good enough.

Rubbish. Its just confidence. Any team can play well with confidence.

Bailey just doesn't have the education or experience on how to get the team up. However Sheedy would. So does that mean I just have to wait 2 years before Bailey gets the right experience?

Hawthorn fans were calling for Clarkson's head for the exact same reasons in 2005 and stKilda was in the same boat in 2003 when Carl Langdon came out of the woodwork and offered to coach the club for free, claiming they'd never win playing the grant thomas style! (true, they didn't get a flag, but they came very close twice)

Bailey's a new coach, with a new gameplan, trying to introduce a new culture to the club. Next year we will have a very young list, but a list that will have a whole year under this coach, gameplan and style.

We were never going to make the finals, and if by some miracle we did, there's no way we were going shape them in any significant way. Give the coach and the kids some time.

That is perfectly said. We need patience, and we must give Bailey and the team support. It will happen, but it's going to take time unfortunately.
 
Sheedy. My god people are clutching at straws. Why not give Barass a call? Or dig up Jock McHale and prop him in the box.

Yesterday's hero didn't get chosen because he hasn't had a decent idea for five years. Argue why we didn't pick McKenna and then I'll talk but when you think the geriatric squad was going to do anything with the excremental list we have then you need to have a good lie down.
 
Kevin Sheedy is a legendary player and coach who may have done alot of things but why he wasnt chosen for the job over Bailey shows how much faith our board has with Dean and thats great in my opinion

Just for the record Sheedy started at the Bombers in 1981

He took the Bombers to its first flag since 1965 in 1983 and won again in 1984

Premierships are not easy to win

Both Clarkson and Thompson were getting Critised for their coaching as well and while Clarkson hasnt delivered the goods yet i can see a very bright era for the Hawks is about to begin

Part of the development of players is having them play together as a group for long periods

stupid post. Sheedy wouldnt be able to do anything with this group of clowns either. We would still be 0-5 and then we would all be saying why didnt we get a younger coach and that sheedy is past it.

Im as frustrated as the next person about how we are playing but the coach isnt to blame.
 
I am becoming more and more convinced that Bailey's game plan is a winner. I mean Jeez there were parts of the game on the weekend where we were carving em up and our run and fluency were really impressive. The game plan was looking the goods.

Turnovers and mistakes definitely let us down the rest of the time but thats to be expected with the game plan Bails is implementing - its faster, requires quick and accurate decision making and these things will come the longer we stick to the game plan.

Hawks had the same problem initially but look at those Hawkers now.

Persistence is the key and I have no doubt that in time it will all click together. I would really love to see 4 quarters of of it this year just to give the supporters a glimpse of the future :thumbsu:

Are you forgeting the quality they drafted, Franklink, Roughhead?

Do you forget the quality midfielders they have Crawford, Mitchell, Lewis, Ladson?

You're the fool mate - do you think we are going to sit on our hands and not draft anyone over the next 1-2 years and do you really think the players we have drafted are not going to progress - Pffft :rolleyes:

Sheedy was never the answer. In fact the reason the Bombers players were fed up with him was because he was out of touch. If 'Spirit' is the buzz word then Essendon had none under Sheedy in the last few years. Knights may not be the master coach but IMO the Bombers play with much more spirit under him.

I think Bailey holds himself very well and understands our problems. Sure he makes the odd moves here or there like any coach but he is still learning about our team just as much as the new players are.

We could have a ****head like Mark Harvey for coach who cracks it and walks out on media conferences or we could have a professional like Bailey who has his mind firmly set on where we need to go. Given how bad we have been he has coached quite well and I haven't seen him really lose it once. If the coach doesn't keep their head in crisis then we really are doomed. We don't need a coach who coaches for the moment and loses his head after 4 or 5 games.

Keep it up Bails, process is the key.:thumbsu:
 
FFS leave the poor bastard alone. It's been 5 games in with a list that makes Carlton look like a bunch of champions.

Sheedy, albeit a nice thought, would had been a backwards leap. In a backroom role he would have been welcome but we can't keep using band-aid solutions to problems that need surgery gawddamnit! Need to start fresh and Bails was the way to go:thumbsu:

Personally I preferred McKenna but you know...

What a rubbish post!!! If Sheedy is so fantastic, why did Essendon give him the arse? Because he hadn't had a fresh idea for about 5 years!

You wouldn't be bitching about Bails if we were 5-0, have you ever heard the expression you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink it? We are learning a BRAND NEW gameplan, which will take time to master.

Be patient.

in this world we live in we face many battles many problems good and bad. you need to go backwards to go forwards. you need to spend money to make money, you learn from your mistakes. so don't get shitty with our club, support them. this is actually an exciting time for the melbournefc. in the next 2 seasons we need to finish last to go anywhere. we need 8 top 20 picks in the next 2 years at least, we'll get brand new facilities in a brand new stadium plus a bonus summer training ground. so put up a good fight deez but just finish short at full time for future sucesss. GO DEEZ 2010 AND BEYOND
