We should be looking to pinch a high quality key forward from a team that is no longer challenging for a flag. It's just unfortunate that the Dogs, Melbourne, Adelaide, St Kilda and Brisbane don't have any of the right age which they haven't recently brought to the club.

I look at it the same way that I look at buying a midfielder. If we are to bring in a player they should be going straight to the top of the list for opposition attention. It's not cheap but that is how we improve as a team as opposed to improving at a single position.

Jeremy Howe, Im telling you, we'd be crazy not to have a crack at this guy.

I like Howe but don't think he is a genuine kpp and therefore superfluous.

Jeremy howe
Born: June 29, 1990 (age 22), Hobart
Height: 1.90 m
Weight: 85 kg
Games: 46
Goals: 53

He may be slightly undersized, but he has kicked a goal a game his whole career, which in itself is not outstanding, but he is playing in a team that could very well have played in the foxtel cup and lost. A key forward in my mind, is a player who is quick on the lead and can take a contested mark. howe excells at both of these things. He would also finally let Chris Mayne play as the third forward, which he is.

Of all the key forwards we could target i.e franklin, crameri, gumbleton. I think howe would be the pick of the bunch, mainly because franklin would cost the sultan of brunei's savings account, gumbleton is injured all the time, crameri is injury prone, and undersized.

Also, howe being the player that he is, would allow him to move into another position once we DO find a young key forward to develop i.e wing or high half forward, unlike someone like gumbleton, who is a key forward and nothing else.

Just my thoughts, but id be filthy if we didnt atleast ask the question... would be nice to poach someone of value from melbourne for once too.

16 other clubs would be doing the exact same thing with Howe. He'd arguably be the most expensive option outside of Franklin.

thats true, but someone would have to get him, and we have cash saved up due to the failed clarke and cloke attempts. Id be happy for us to pay 500K for him to help sure up our forwardline for the future.

Being a melbourne player, im not sure it would take that much convincing to leave given that melbuorne have paid a fortune for other key forwards in clarke and dawes already, and they appear to be going nowhere.

My only question would be melbournes demands on the trade table, with bonds inability to get a deal done in the past, im not sure how we would go with that. Its a shame schwabb has gone, we could have offered something that worked out best for us.

again im not saying we WILL get him, just that we should be trying.

he is also tasmanian, so its not like he is living as the same state of his family anyway, so he should be reasonably used to being away from home (although admittedly it isnt much of a journey to get to tassie from melbourne)

Jack Darling is 191cm and 91 kg and is a so coalled Key Forward.

Howe is 1 cm shorter 5 kg lighter than Darling. I dont mind getting him but I dont fell comfortable trading a 1st round pick to get him.

true, but howe has a skillset that darling simply doesnt have. his leap and contested marking are something darling could only wish he had. Like i said we need a target up forward, there is nothing saying that target has to be 195cms+ not sure what melbourne would ask for, i know it would be less than what hawthorn would ask for franklin.

if zac clarke asks to leave, potentially he could be involved. I would rather clarke stay though

I suggest this before.

I reckon we should look at Shaun Mckernan, 196 cm and 99kg. Been behing the pecking order at the crows because of Tippet and Walker last season and now behind the pecking order behind tom lynch and Jenkins.

If there is one player at the saints i wouldnt mind getting is tom lee.

Clarke to Gws for 1st Rounder :)
Both First Round picks for Howe, then Draft tall with second round pick

I'd have Nick Reiwoldt for a year over Tom Lee for five on what he has shown so far. I don't rate his ability at AFL level for the frame he has at the moment.

There was a lot of talk about a guy named Harris last year, he was overlooked. What's the story with that?

Michie seems the mundy replacement to me.
In desperate need of KPF and Michies trade value would not be high (Face it guys hes yet to play a game)
I rate Michie quite high and believe he could cover Mundy well, what would you guys think of shipping Mundy off to North in return for Black, in the trading thread they have said a 26+ yr Old Midfielder who is better than decent is needed.

Mundy as of right now is untradeable. Mundy along with Barlow and Fyfe our Freos three main inside mids. Decen Midfielders are a dime a dozen but Freo put too many years for mundy to leave.

i agree with everything u say, i just rate michie really highly and black would be a good get

I had most of Saturday inside and I half watched a VFL game on tv.
Khan Haretuku kicked at least 6 against Matt Watson who is on Carlton's list.
"Genghis" was previously on St Kilda's list, but didn't crack a game.
He looked a contested mark & (nice left foot) kick type forward as opposed to the long running lead up type, which might compliment Taberner down the track.
He is a big fella at almost 200cm, with a strong build, & was too good for Watson who honestly looked out of his depth.
Another bonus would be that he wouldn't need to be traded for.

I suggested this bloke last year. He was at St Kilda when RTB was there. Ross told him he would never make it. It would be a major turnaround for us to recruit him. Khan was on record as saying he wanted to prove Ross wrong.

I could be wrong, but I thought Ross delisted him (or dropped him from the rookie list) when he was at StKilda ...

Talk of trading Mundy is rubbish, you just don't trade players of his ilk. Ever.

I agree that we should try to get Howe. But I cant see a situation where Melbourne would let him leave. If there were to be a trade it would have to involve a really early pick and we wont have that.
Howe would be more likely to want to go to another Melbourne club if he wanted to leave the Demons.
Howe will probably finish second to N.Jones in the Melbourne BF this year. Melbourne cannot afford to loose a player like him and will pay a fortune to keep him if he even said he was thinking about leaving.

Wouldn't be surprised if the AFL make a special interim rule that anyone thats any good isn't allowed to leave Melbourne and the AFL will pay them 10% overs on their contract as a pain and suffering allowance.

yeah, odds are against us. I guess given Pav's age, we are going to need a developed forward to remain a top 4 threat moving forward, even though we are travelling ok (last week aside). Gumbleton is broken down continually and probably heading to the western bulldogs anyway, Franklin is way too expensive and wont come anyway IMO, crameri undersized/overrated... I just dont see any other realistic option that will land us an established forward unless we poach howe.

Geelong's brown is still not getting a gig, not sure if we would go there, Aaron black? not sure on his contract status and his recent form would suggest he may cost as much as howe.... maybe we are going to have to just suck it up and recruit from the draft... but we have shown in the past that we dont like recruiting talls in the ND.... something has to happpen though

Looks like Riewoldt is looking for more money, surprised this hasn't got more attention. Personally I'd rather not.

Reiwoldt in purple would be pretty awesome. We'd have to beat the sookiness out of him, but his work rate is huge and he kicks bags of goals regularly. He has won the Coleman up forward for the Tiges for crying out loud.

If we can fit him into our list management, then we should abso-bloody-lutely be chasing him. Would be a forward with similar output to Buddy for a better price.
