when did they ever play key forward?

I didnt say played as a CHF or FF. Tony Libertore barely played up forward if ever. Still kicked 95 goals in 263 games. Phillip mater played the majority of his career up forward in the pocket with 389 goals and 179 games. He managed to kick 60 goals in 2 different seasons.

Neither played as a key forward. Some people on here are suggesting we don't need a 195 cm, 95 kg key forward in our side to win a flag.

We will not win a flag if we have to rely on Ballantyne to kick 80 goals a season. It just wont happen with the attention he gets.

ok, but I am talking about KEY FORWARDS
not giants either :)

You need to stop losing sleep over this. It is becoming an obsession.

Silvagni is a just passable AFL player, nothing more.

Brace yourself for him not being here next year.

Sadly I will have to agree on this. It seems Silvagni will be traded or delisted at the end of the season. I have every right to lose sleep over this... Do you want freo to go through what the eagles had to go through from 2002-4? Eagles had a decent side that was easily good enough to make the 8. But they could not go further than an elimination finals loss for 3 years in a row because they lacked a decent Key Forward. As stated earlier Phillip Matera Lead their goal kicking with 60 goals in 2 of those seasons.

Looking at our Squad we are capable of making the 8, which we will without a problem... Only drunken Bums and West coast eagles fans think otherwise. Some say Freo will get top 4. I reckon we will just fall short... If freo beat North, We have to win 8 of our last 10 games just to pinch 4th spot. In which Freo could end up on 4th Spot with 17 wins 1 draw and 4 losses and Potientially facing top placed Geelong in a qualifying final!

I think that you suck at maths and optimism based on current form.

I recommend getting laid and hideously drunk.

In that order.

As much as I want to get laid I dont have a spare $150 to go to a decent Brothel in SA.:D

Also I had to edit one of my last posts. If we beat North, Freo will need to win 8 of their last 10 to get 4th. Keep in mind Crows got 2nd Spot last season with a soft draw and Took advantage the same way an unemployed bum takes advantage of centre-link benefits.

I got a feeling Freo will lose only 2 more games after facing North. Geelong will Probably be one, The only other game we would feel like a probable loss is either the tigers at the MCG or Carlton at ethiad.

I prefer to get drunk then get laid. Don't know why... Considering I live in SA, do WA ladies have high standards?:)

In his first year with us Silvagni exceeded my expectation and I thought he was going to be a very good player for us. Unfortunately he has gone sideways if not backwards since then (one game does not make a player).

He is not best 22 in my opinion, and should be looked at for a trade.

We need true key forwards because guys like Jake Carlisle and Rory Thompson are 200cm tall. They will out reach our 180cm forwards by almost half a metre. There is a reason we are having most of our inside fifties between 40m and 50m, it's because the longer kick will get marked (not just spoiled) by the opposition key defender and they will rebound down the open side of the ground while we are out of position.

If we had a tall big body deep, we can put it on top of his head and let him break even. A ground ball 20m from goal is good for us. We don't have that option so we try and hit up a leading target higher up the ground.

Structurally we can probably handle a lump of a tall guy up there who can read the drop of the ball but never seems to be able to mark it but if we get a really good one, a guy who can actually take that contested mark and shoot from 0-30m out, it will make the difference between top eight and top four.

That's the immediate value of Harry Taylor to me.

The resting ruck is the 200cm player who will make a contest. Sandilands or Clarke would do a great job of that I think.

The KPF needs to be able to do a lot more.

Jack Riewoldt, Mitch Thorp and Scott Gumbleton are the I would be looking at.

Harry Taylor is a defender, and would cost too many draft picks to trade him in only to play him in his non preferred position.

Chris25 - Does Mitch Thorp has what it takes to make it as an AFL KPF ?

radical idea... we take two small forwards, stack them on top of each other and throw them a sandi-sized jersey. they have the height to compete in the marks and can separate when required giving us an extra small forward when the ball goes to ground.

we've re-hashed just about every option for a FA/trade aquisition in these threads a few times and everyone has their opinions and it's only round 11. I'm quietly confident we'll snag what we need at seasons end in a long term prospect and a two year prospect to prop up pav. until seasons end we won't know who.. the imperative at the moment is getting the king of football back in our side and into damaging form for the finals (be it at home or away)

Yeah, but you're sensible. So it wasn't directed at you.;)

Plenty here reminisce about the day SNOS shut down Buddy, as if that made him a permanent fixture in the 22.

He got lucky. Buddy probably had a raging hangover.

It was also driving rain and Buddy still had a few shots on goal + 20ish possessions.

I doubt any other club would want Silvagni - maybe the expansion clubs for some cheapish depth.

I have been trying to say this all along, But no I was shot down by Whiteoak. I was ordered to Smuggle an army of players that were at least 195 cm and 85 kg along with slaves and live cattle to smuggle pass the SA, WA border.

Now, now. I understand our situation completely.

I just didn't agree with your selections for us.

It was getting to the stage of anything with a pulse and male genitalia there for a while.

I reckon we will struggle to get 1 let alone both...

What do you think the trades would have to be?

Geelong want 2 1st round Draft picks Same way how Carlton traded for Chris Judd. Cats want 2 1st round draft picks including one in the top 10.

I know I will be alone on this, I will be happy trading our 1st round pick as long as he plays 5 good years with us.

you were actually worried at that point?

I was worried well before then!:D

Where is this 2 first rounders coming from?

You'll have plenty of support on here for one first rounder and decent quality steak knives for players of the ilk of HT and JR.

The beauty of the situation is that we only need to trade for one.
One front end loaded contract, one more evenly distributed. We give the evenly distributed deal to the player we can secure the trade for first then walk out of negotiations for the second, he puts a massive price on his head in the PSD and we get him there.

It will all depend on GWS picking up Franklin and the Bulldogs over extending themselves.
