A couple of people suggested Freo should go after Mitch Clark.... Im curious if anyone has forgotten this...

In the 2011 trade Period Mitch Clark apparently wanted to come home to WA. Freo actually were offering our best Pick, pick 16 to get him. Clark wanted to go home to live with his family again.

Mitch Clark was on the verge to Join us until Melbourne offered Mitch Clark $750,000 a year for 4 years. Melbourne also were offering pick 12 to Brisbane. Brisbane would deal with Freo provided they can offer a better deal than the Demons. Brisbane wanted picks 16 and 20 (Palmer compo pick) for Clarke. Freo backed off and used pick 16 for Tom Sheridan and Pick 20 for Hayden Crozier.

If Mitch Clark wanted to really go back to WA. He would of threaten Brisbane to accept pick 16 or let freo get him in the PSD. He didnt, he went for the money. West coast would of had no interest in him as they already had Jack Darling, Josh Kennedy and Quentin Lynch.

I have said this band said this again there are 3 ways that freo will get a Key forward this season....

1. Use our 1st or 2nd round pick to get a teenager in the draft and patiently wait 3-4 years fot that player to Develop. That or use another Rookie pick.

2. Use a PSD pick and get a rejected player from another AFL club Like Jack Anthony 2 years Ago.

3. The Same way we picked up Jack Hannath. Grab a mature aged Key Forward aged 21-24 and get 7-10 years of good service.

4. Offer our 1st round pick to get an experienced Key Forward.

If I had it my way, Option 2 or 3 is the bare minimum as it would be cheap and there is bound to be someone half decent in the PSD... Option 1 is a very good Idea and my preferred method. Option 4 is a last resort method.

we need somebody who can lead the attack when pav hangs up the boots, if you make a best 22 for our side and say only people born in 86 and younger can be in it the most noticable absences (hardest to replace are) Pav, The already missing 2nd target, Mcpharlin and Johnson, I rekon DeBoer can play crowleys role well and cover that. Duff and some others have plenty of players who can play there role.

Boo hoo, Ross Lyon went to us for the money too.

Can't say I'm advocating it, but assuming that Melbourne realise they screwed up in getting him (when they also have Dawes, Watts, Howe, Hogan, etc) and want salary cap relief, then we'd only be paying half price for Clark.

Would you want one of Melbournes key forwards? I would take Chris Dawes but I refuse to trade our best pick to get him.

Jeremy howe would look good at Freo as another Medium Forward to help Mayne, ballantyne and Walters.

He also might of had no choice we don't know, if freo had looked to pick him up in the psd, Melbourne may have snapped him up anyway. The facts are Melbourne could've matched anything we offered him and if he refused to play for Melbourne (via psd) he would more than likely be accused of draft tampering.

Having said that I'd rather Watts or Dawes before Clark simply because Clarks foot is such a major issue.

Surely Jack Watts has to be traded. How do Dawes, Howe, Hogan and Clark fit into the side if he's there as well?

Watts has just signed an extension to his contract hasn't he? Was thinking the same but this is Melbourne we are talking about list management is not their forte'.

As I said Howe would be good. 2 small runners in Ballantyne and Walters. 2 Medium sized guys in Many e and Howe. Pav to be the main person for next season and Sandi/Clarke rotate.

Clark contract was front loaded and his last two years is 500k per year. For me that's a good deal. Maybe get melbourne to pay some of his wages. They are re building. Maybe trade Sheridan and our second round pick for Clark and their fourth round pick.

The guy was offered a way over the top contract by melbourne and I can't blame the guy for him taking hat.

Melbourne will have the unenviable position of having a glut of key forwards (Watts, Clark, Dawes, Hogan, Howe, Fitzpatrick) with no-one of any quality to kick it to them.

I'd bend over backwards to get Hogan from them, he's seen as the great white hope and the supporters would revolt if he went to another club. I'd avoid Clark like the plague with his foot issues and our hard playing surfaces at Freo oval, Peel and Subiaco. Dawes is a spud who wouldn't leave Victoria and if I were Melbourne Fitzpatrick would be a chance to be delisted.

It leaves the obvious target of Watts. The question; what would you give up?

I think Aaron Black's contract is due to expire in 2014.
It might be worth offering him an offer he finds very hard to refuse next year. It's highly doubtful norf will be playing finals any time soon.

What sort of money would Black be commanding now?

I would try to get Jesse white in the psd for peanuts then offer north our 1st rounder and possibly a fringe player for black and then we may even have enough some spare coin to chase yarran or daisy. If we can't get a high profile kpf why not try to diversify - the above scenario would instantly complete our fwd line structure and get us another runner.......I guess I can dream.

Jack Fitzpatrick has taken his chances. has kicked 11 goals in 8 games. He is 200cm and 95 kg. I would get Howe as well. I would give up a 2nd round pick for Howe. If Fitzpatrick gets de listed, Freo might get him.

I would look at if we could get Staker. Can play at both ends of the ground as a bonus.

actually not a bad idea, would brissy let him go though and how old is he?

would be worth a look for 2-3, not worth to much though, 2nd/3rd rounder?

Only players worth getting from Melbourne are
Frawley - very good defender, still young so would still be around long after Mcpharlin retires, would get in his ear and say how his Uncle played his entire career for a struggling team surely he doesnt want to follow that same route.

Dawes - The monster key forward that you can just bomb it long to under pressure and will compete hard plus works hard and leads well.

Watts - Remember early Mundy, Great skills, Good endurance can play down back up forward or even midfield, understands how to play forward and with our mids delivering to him could come good.
