not saying he's the man for us but think an american is good idea, his first yr of football and shows promising signs. By no means am i shouting recruit him.
Hell, let Norf Develop him for 3 years with their warchest of funds (lol) and swoop on him once he's developed the fundamentals of the game. His taps to advantage and marking looked good, but that's probably as far as things go at the moment.

I'm surprised we haven't gone after a few international rookies. They don't take up a spot on the list and all they cost is their salary. So there's not much of a downside.

think the selectors are starting to realise that now.

This bloke looks promising:

I have mentioned the last couple of drafts. Had a very good highlights reel as an 18yo and now he is 20+. From memory 199cm which is a good size for a key forward and the bit Freo would like is his endurance.

Him and the Tabernator could make a pretty handy team in a couple of years.

TBH, this part of the article didn't exactly have me salivating:

On a forward line which boasts current and former AFL talent such as Ben McKinley, Ben Warren and Majak Daw, Brown has been standout throughout the year, kicking 17 goals from 13 matches

If you can't stand out amongst those 3 spuds then i'm not sure you're capable of making the jump to the AFL.

Just one more name (I think) from me guys -
What about Nathan Vardy??
Yes - Primarily a ruckmen but when having a look at his stats I found that the games with less than 10 hitouts, he kicked goals in. Meaning when played forward he kicked goals apart from GWS in which he was replaced by Mitch Duncan in the third quarter due to injury.
Also plays for geelong which on here seems to be a place posters think we're going to be trading with (Was it because Michie played that game + Sheridan?). See that as a straight swap maybe? Sheridan/Michie for Vardy?? Are we paying overs or unders?
Is this just a waste of a trade?

I wonder sometimes (maybe flippantly) if the "draft Ben Brown" theme gets resurrected each year because he was a Freo supporter and because he is a key position player? unfortunately he is also Tasmanian and recruiters have gone off them :p (Although he has got a draft invite so there is some interest obviously).

as dorky as this might sound, he's afraid of little kids pretty much. 10-15 year old signs interviews and thats it.(FACT) Apparantly being there big hope he has to give speech's and etc in front of kids and even adults creep him out - kinda shy bloke. (Whisper)
Also heard he's homesick a bit and would not help that Melbourne are such a bad team.
When he play junior footy there were 2 teams in his grade and they were about even, the team he played in he was the only good player and he moved so that he wouldn't be the centre of attention as much.
Could see him not liking being the bloke to carry the team after that.
P.S. My youngest sister went to school with him last year ...

This is tripe.

Jesse is very, very confident. Howson making his league debut for Easts tomorrow.

confident, not confident with kids. Ask Michael evans bout it

I don't need to.

It's a rubbish reason to stoke the fire about a potential return home, kids clinics and family days are part and parcel of modern AFL football.

There's going to be expectation wherever he plays, probably more were he to come to Freo, stepping into the boots of the great one, M. Pavlich is loaded with expectation.

i was just adding what i know, im sure he'll get used to kid clinics and eventually will really start to enjoy them

i know he's a defender but what about trading for cameron delayney.
Played the one game this year and recorded some good stats in that game - 12 MARKS!
Yes it was only melbourne but the thing is melbounre's not that bad in the tall forward department.
Good wrap from inside football on VFL games to, gets the ball and a possible mcpharlin replacement.

A forward option is Matt Spangher who can also be swung back again reasonably impressive stats but also drafted at 34 (Not Bad - although by west coast)
Bit of a brief bio -
Arriving at his third AFL club, the key defender adds depth to Hawthorn’s big man stocks following the off-season departures of Stephen Gilham and Jarrad Boumann. Spangher has yet to establish himself as an AFL regular, managing six games in two seasons at the Sydney Swans (none in 2012) after playing 26 matches in five years at the West Coast Eagles. Is capable of playing forward as well as back.

And his performance summarys are here -

Is this bloke all there?

We're desperate? Top 4 with our number 1 ruck out most of the year, no genuine CHF in Pav's absence, Macpharlin absent for a large portion of the year....

Absolutely it will be a focus over the next couple of years to draft quality talls, but I think Ross has a few tricks up his sleeve to counter the depth concerns in the talls department.

fwiw, Paul Haselby tweeted during the WC game that a Jack Darling for Stephen Hill trade would be a win-win for both sides

Nah. Josh Kennedy for hill and a pick though...
Thats a better call Lach. Darling goes missing and will get in Maynes way. They play a similar role, only Mayne does it better. We need a gorrilla and Josh Kennedy would be a perfect fit. He works hard, is hungry and will snag a couple of Colemans during his career.
Would be gut wrenching seeing Steve in the ochre but would be a win win for both clubs.
