To all you dicks who reckon we don't need power forward in the modern game, I'm watching Brian lake collect his norm smith for taking intercept marks against a forward line of short people plus one 192cm half fit key forward. Players like Mayne. Walters & Ballantyne are meant to augment your talls, not be your main Fwds. All this BS about all we need is a resting ruck plus Pav - take a look at Hawthorn. A tall fwd (Gunston) made a big difference in the final result.
Sorry if a bit OTT, but am a bit emotional right now.

Clearly the case. Jesse white would be ideal. He can run and tackle so we wont be giving much up in forward pressure.

I don't think Lake winning the NS is any indication that an extra mediocre tall forward would have helped. Lake was taking all those marks by playing loose man. Maybe another tall could have kept him occupied, but we'd lose in other areas (our run).

Our structures were fine, our gameplan was fine. We took 17 marks inside 50 (with Hawthorn taking 11). That is a pretty damning statistic. We had more shots, including the 4 or 5 out on the fulls. The chances were created, we just butchered them.

We need a key forward to replace Pav, but we don't really need one to play next to him.
 
i personally rekon we need an upgrade on dawson, I rate him highly playing on a resting ruck - but gets toweled up on athletic types. Johnson an absolute super-star Key defender who runs off as well as an attacking defender.
Need 2 new KPD and 2 New KPF to get better as a side.
The first 5 players (Still need a midfielder) i'd look at delisting or dropiing from rookie lists are:
1) Chrichton
2) Faulks
3) Kepler - Shame
4) Pitt (Heart)
5) Menagola (Unlucky)

I agree with the de-listings.

Having Ibbotson, C Pearce would be help our defence out.

I think we need a good 2nd forward for next year, and I think Mitch Thorpe could be that person. I don't see anyone else available capable.

Dawson has done his job all year, and Gunston is not the right match up for Dawson.

I can not think of any glaring weakness we have, so unless an top quality player comes available we should go back to the draft.
 
At this stage there are grounds to be very afraid of where Pav and McPharlin will be in 12 months time, we may have seen the best of both of them and the game is littered with stars that drop away dramatically.
We need Franklin, give the prick what he wants, just get him

some odd rumours here in Melbourne about Buddy again. I thought GWS has locked him down but it seems the go home factor has come up again.

Anyone heard anything more on this? Apparently some notable ex-Hawks have made some interesting comments about this during GF week.

Don't get your hopes up. Just heard from two different people the same story and seemed odd.

Buddy is a gun, and I'm sure GWS have this locked down, but you never know.

FWIW, Smokey Dawson was saying earlier in the week (on 6pr) that his sources were telling him Buddy is considering a move back West. After missing out on Taylor & Black, I'm beyond getting excited about these types of rumors anymore.
 
As i said earlier in thread i still get the feeling we are after Hogan and in with a chance.

As for Buddy we gave up chasing him ages ago.
However Buddy may now be the one wanting to come here.
Not due to our performances but because his best mate Wellingham is here and there is a big chance his other great mate Oconner could be coming here to play for the Western Force.
So with those 2 here plus the bonus of Freo now a strong club its looking like a good option for him.

This game should finally shut those fools up who say we dont need another keyforward.
Not only do we need one while we have Pav.
We are going to need another very good one to replace him soon.
Give up a mid, give up a small forward/mid.
I dont care just get us another key forward this offseason.

Buddy would be a superb fit, but then in a year - we still need another one. Stand by my 2 backs 2 forwards statement, for this reason. 1st Round - Marsh/Mcarthy, 3rd Round - If only got 1 kpf Thorpe otherwise defender.
2nd Round - Mid
Rookie Defender
Think about going mid with 3rd round if not after thorpe and kpd with 2nd.

Meaning we gain:
2 of Marsh, Mcarthy, Thorpe and Buddy
a Midfielder
and 2 Defenders
Chris25 how you rate any second round defenders or rookie prospects. if you got time 2nd or 3rd round mids.

Speaking of rumours.. I heard today that Pav's signed a contract with Woodside for what I'm bloody well hoping is a career AFTER his current one finishes, I'm a little concerned he might pull the pin sooner rather than later.

Incidentally (non-key forward related, but) the same source told me that the Woodside stunt last week with the band on the bus was supposed to be Eskimo Joe, but apparently they said they'd only do it for $70,000. So naturally they got told where to go by woodside.. Only to show up playing at the open training session later in the week for considerably less. This from a band that crowd sourced funding for their last album despite their status, bunch of scrooges.
 
Has there been an offer made to Buddy? reckon Freo should lay it all on the line to have a crack they would get it back in merchandise sales. Other than Buddy cant see any other key forwards around Mitch Thorpe apparently doesnt play as a real key forward but would take him anyway and key backs? is Tate Pears any chance of returning?
