There were also ??? about his acceleration off the mark. Was never going to get a crack at Melbourne with Dawes, Clarke and Hogan waiting in the wings.

I think we have tried to correct our key position depth in last years draft. if we do the same this year, and with free agency,
trading, we will be ok.
Clarke is a long way off from being the tall forward required, and in reality is better in the middle, and at worst will become
trade bait, or may want more opportunity elsewhere.
I still believe Fyfe can be our Adam Goodes, Hird, type, and with Mitchie, Simpson, Mellington, starting to hit their straps,
I dont think many clubs can match our rotations.

Skinny kid that struggled to put on weight. Will find it hard to hold his opponent off the ball when it lands on his head. If he could put on some weight he could be worth a second look.

He doesn't sound very promising aha. If we grab another rookie to develop alongside Howson and Taberner I'd rather we get them with a high pick in the ND rather than swooping on a Melbourne reject

I'd like to see Viv come in off the bench so Fyfe can swing forward. Viv looks like a good clearance player

It's going to be awhile until Michie comes into the side, he's still building up match fitness apparently. Fyfe forward is great but we lose too much in the midfield with him up there IMO

Thats where the sub comes into play, Fyfe needs to read the situation, and impose himself where required. Midfielders who
can kick goals are worth their weight in gold. I know Fyfe is a great inside mid, just love to see him more outside.

I know most are dead against using first round draft picks for anything but best available, but with both Pears (KPD, 23, 192cm, 92kg, 58 Games) and Gumbleton (KPF, 24, 197cm, 99kg, 30 Games) coming out of contract for Essendon at the end of the season, I feel a very mutually beneficial deal could be reached to bring these two players back home to WA.

With that said, it's only round 5 and it's a long time between now and the end of the season.

Are there more lanky young men coming through now than before? There seems to be a surplus of tall, skinny endurance runners and a drought of tall, bulky, keys.

Could the high running load of modern football be filtering down to junior grades and now it's more important for them to be able to run and take the ball out in front clear of their man, than to contest a mark?

It's an argument that's been done to death on here in the past.

But I honestly see, (and always have), Morabito as a CHF.

I have quite a different perception.

I can't see Mora being a CHF with any kind of success over the longer term. Seems like a terrible waste to me.

But we each see different things I guess.

Gumbleton will stay at Essendon, but I would have a serious look at Tayte Pears.

Should also have a look at NZ. Over 35k kids playing footy there in probably the strongest comp outside Australia. Lots of athletic freaks there also. Some reckon that Agape Patolo (197cm ruckman/athletic freak/former rugby player, could probably play forward) may be a first round pick. The Hawks Kurt Heatherley is rated possible first round (injured).

Agree. There must be a ton of kids in NZ playing as union second rowers (or even the occasional winger these days!) that would have the right physical tools to play as a KPP. Final height of 6'3-6'7 is normal range for a second rower, strong, enjoy smacking into people. Some experience catching the ball above their heads. Some very good athletes amongst the second rowers also.

If they could build the tank, and if we can grab them early enough to teach them all the other stuff (and there's a lot) then I reckon NZ is our best chance to grab a good overseas prospect. There are only so many All Blacks jerseys, and even provincial jerseys available. Some kids are going to want to look at an alternative path as a professional sportsman.

With the exception of Tom Lynch, who you mentioned, I am yet to see a name in this thread who would actually IMPROVE our list.

And isn't that the point?

To Morabito.

He's undersized height wise at 189cm, but he is a brute at 93kg+.

He can run all day like the wind. Can kick straight generally and has good goal sense. He also played a lot of junior footy as a KPP. So he knows the caper.

He can crash packs and take a contested mark and would be extremely difficult to match up on.

It is often stated that Fyfe could drift forward. Now that, to me, is a waste. His ability in the mids is invaluable to us. Whereas Mora doesn't possess the in close skills that Fyfe shows and could easily go forward and be extremely effective.

A forward role is also far less strenuous on that dicky knee of his.

Pears is undersized to play as a KPD, and Gumby's body is a major risk.

I see a very good chance that that option would end up being a burnt pick. No problem with trading our first rounder for the right guys. But neither of those guys are worth a first rounder, even as a package.

You know guys. There's a reason why these boys are playing in the 2's or have been de-listed.

They're no bloody good!

Michael Barlow says hi.

But it's probably a fair argument that KPFs are a different story... if they've had enough time to fully develop.
