I know this sounds defeatist but we have been used over the years as contract bait for years Shall I remind you of pass targets
like Lowe , he increased his price to resign with the Saints by 50,000 a year .We got a thanks but no thanks
But then we did get Modra for a fortune and he did all he could but he was at the end of his career.

We need to work on the kids we've got and not look for stop gaps . A mature age rooky is the best way forward IMO. Go for the BUTCHER

Out of that lot, I'd grab Tarrant. But that won't be happening. You'd never let him go.

Hansen would be handy, but I thought you lot locked him up for another couple of years or something last year?

Petrie would fit the structure perfectly, but I think there's as much chance of him leaving North as there is of me playing AFL.

I'm not sure, I think if Petrie felt North were in good hands and weren't really going to be a shot for a flag in his remaining years, which is possible/probable and he was offered a golden handshake contract at Freo he might consider it. He has said previously that the loyalty thing doesn't really exist like it used to.

It is unlikely, but if he was the type of player Ross wanted it wouldn't hurt to test the waters given it wont cost anything in picks, just money. He will likely play out his days at North.

Hansen was line ball of leaving last year, we apparently gave him a mediocre contract on low money and he was considering other options, I think he signed for 2 years (2014) on something more reasonable but I don't think it was a lot. I think the club hinted that his pay is now swinging more towards performance than potential at his age now so he may not be optimistic about what is going to be offered to him beyond next year.

I think at FF or CHB Hansen is vastly superior to where he currently plays most of his footy, out at CHF, he just doesn't get the opportunity to play there that often.

well, i moved to melbourne 11 years ago and i don't blame him. the place is tops. north will have a problem in a year or two, though. petrie will probably get the arse in the short term but one of the other four nearest to him is going to looking over the fence soon.

Yeah, that is likely, especially if there is a glut in KPFs in the next few drafts clubs will be sniffing around at guys not getting a decent shot elsewhere. I think we are in the box seat to retain whom we think are the best of the group though, ie we retained Goldstein and let Hale and McIntosh go.

That doesn't always pan out that way, ie Geelong and Mumford but i think clubs put a lot of consideration towards limiting the hurt from poaching with kids. I doubt Daw would be playing if he had 2 years left on his contract. :p

Notice how people are ignoring you of late?? Why is that?

Butcher is not a mature age rookie by the way.

He would come at a significant cost.

If Bondy is looking at picking up a tall free agent I hope he just drew a big red line right through Kosi's name.

I watched his game with interest and came to the same conclusion especially after his shot at goal dead in front and 25 metres out and he missed every thing .
All the commentators agreed about how out of form he is and his lack of confidence .

TBH with Kepler going to miss a year and Pav now injury prone we need to draft the best young KPF we can and get a mature KPF for the interim as well.
Hope that Taberner or Howson or the new draftee come good in the longer term but have an option for next year or two as well. Adelaide will be trying to do the same.

Interesting that he'd be fine at either end, but not as good at CHF.

Does that mean he struggles to make or read the play as well as he'd need to at CHF?

Have heard that there's a heap of latitude at that spot, so it needs more experience at the position, and a bit of extra play-reading ability to work the position well.

Nathan Vardy from Geelong should be on the list. Long shot though, don´t think the Cats would be too keen to lose him.

Kicked 6 down forward today in his first game back from injury. Huge lad, powerful also. 198cm, 101kg.

He's the Scott Gumbleton of Geelong

I wouldn't mind giving up top picks for some quality but I don't really rate much of the mentioned players as quality, they all have deficiencies/problems of some form or another.

If we can't get Buddy what I'd like to see is us go at another top line mid like Daisy in FA and go heavy at the draft for KPP's. Most of our midfielders are still so young that they will still be in their prime even if the KPP's have to develop for a couple of years.

Probably means Pav, Sandi and Mcpharlin miss out on any chance at premierships but that is just realistic IMO.

Not a strong draft for KPP´s by the sounds of it. Unless we snag a No 1 pick off GWS and manage to draft Tom Boyd.

Have to remember that Daisy is a restricted free agent.

I think Collingwood would rather trade Daisy to GWS in return for the No 1 pick and Tom Boyd rather than let Daisy go to us.

Cloke and Tom Boyd - scary proposition.

Which of our current players would get the number 1 pick off GWS?
We could lose 1 top shelf player to get the best KPF in the draft IMO

They'd have to be contracted considering that GWS could instruct the player to nominate for the PSD and hold over a pick to take them there.

Or, and I'm not suggesting St Kilda did this, refuse to trade with us during the week so we have to delist the uncontracted player then sign them as a delisted free agent before final list lodgement.

Why not? Isn't that exactly what happened?

This would be madness. How many young KPF fail to come on at the next level? Wait it out with free agency until the right option becomes available. To get a number 1 draft pick you'd have to give up real quality e.g Fyfe, Hill. The other downside is the instability it would cause with the players knowing that the club is willing to ship off a gun player.

We're not in dire need now. Pav will still be around for a while yet and anyone of Clarke, Hannath, Griff, Silvagni or Sandi can provide adequate foil while Tabs, Smith and co develop. Who knows, Mora or Fyfe could become KPF's in time also.

I didn't want to slander St Kilda by implying that they intended to screw Freo over to get their man because I can't be certain they had those intentions, but they sure went about it the right way if they did.

I think it set a template for uncontracted players getting to the club of their choice.

The delisted free agent status is a massive loophole that any long term player can use to get to any club they choose.
They merely have to refuse to sign with the current club, forcing their club to delist them then nominate for the draft and be snapped up at a pre-agreed remuneration package.

....Assuming he wants to live in Bondi or Manly and fight traffic to get to training in GWS every day. Otherwise I can't see a high-roller like Budwiser wanting to live in a non-AFL hell hole like GWS.
I'd just get a joint overlooking the water in Balmain or Drummoyne if I was playing for GWS. That way you're not living out west and you can get to training in less than 25 minutes.
Ultimately it would come down to how pretentious you were I suppose..

LANCE Franklin's former housemate believes Fremantle will try to entice the Hawthorn star to return to Western Australia at season's end.

West Coast's Sharrod Wellingham, who used to live with Franklin in Melbourne, was asked on Monday if he had spoken recently with his close friend and his response was frank.

"Yeah, I have given him a couple of calls," Wellingham said.

"I don't think we will be able to get him, but maybe if he comes back over to the West to the other team, maybe."

When asked why he thought Fremantle was a contender to land the out-of-contract Franklin, Wellingham was honest.

"I just know that they are one of the teams who are going make a play for him, I suppose.

"Who else? Has GWS maybe got the money as well?"

Fremantle has already vehemently denied any talks with Franklin, who is yet to re-sign with Hawthorn.

I don't buy it still.. So really, he's joining the dots like every other footy fan in the land.

There are a lot of things that Sharrod does, pretty sure joining the dots isn't one of them!

Seems like an odd thing for him to comment on though, why put more pressure on his mate?

Edit: I'll add that I don't think we will chase him, just a bizarre comment.

Even if Franklin wanted to join us.
I get the feeling Lyon would not be interested unless price was too good to refuse.

Franklin is a show pony and loves the attention.
There is no I in team but there is one in FranklIn.

Not exactly the type for his strict team rules and gameplan.
