Shyly raises hand.
But that's all in the past.
And has thus passed into BF tradition

Interesting how Freo looked at Gumbleton and the Roos' Lachie Hansen last off-season, but neither is lighting the world on fire so far this year.
I wouldn't touch any Essendon players until they are cleared. That goes double for the chronically injured players who made miraculous returns to senior football last year.

Would be great to have a KPF who does set the world on fire, but I don't think that is the actual requirement. Like the rest of the team which has surprisingly few match-winners considering the talent, the KPF is a structural component in the larger gameplan. We don't need a Coleman medalist. A power forward with strong contested marking and the ability to keep the ball live in our 50 adds to us structurally.
It is remarkable what Lyon has done considering the injuries deep into our stock of talls. He has diverted what would have been a fatal blow to our season by a uniform and consistant commitment by the players.
Leigh Matthews made a pretty astute assessment on the Bombers' game against Brisbane that was televised here. He said Gumbleton looked good in the air, but not nearly as mobile on the ground. Yet we are 6-2-1 without one.
A power forward isn't integral to our gameplan.
The ability to maintain our forward press and pressure is though.
To a degree yes. But whydon'twehaveboth.jpeg?
A great competitor in the air who clunks marks will give greater benefits to our small forwards and the team, than a Silvagni doing neither. When pav comes back we will improve exponentially

Good point, I hadn't quite thought about the ASADA aspect of it. Dodged a bullet there, it looks like.
Anyone see Lyon laughing on the news at how Freo are connected to a different key forward every week when asked to comment about Jack Watts being recruited? More likely Bondy and Lloyd are doing the sneaky like they did with Pearce and Ross, but I can't think of any KPF on the market they are doing the sneaky with.
Our game plan seems to allow us to compete against most teams without a key forward by spreading our scoring options, much like Sydney. We do struggle though vs. teams with quality talls in their back line for lack of a target in our inside 50s because opposition players that can pluck a mark over our small and medium sized forwards' heads (Sydney and Hawthorn games in point.)
Given our depth in quality mids, monster sized ones in Fyfe and Barlow, and youth coming through, is there any chance any of our existing players can be trained to lead and be forward targets without affecting the strength of our midfield?
Having not grown up with the game and the comments I've seen here about people who start playing footy older not having the same instinctive read of the play, I wondered whether it was possible to remake someone to play another position effectively.
Lastly, we seem to cope ok with out KPF Pav, but note that our two losses the year has been without McPharlin. Our defence is a rock that's built upon our back line, and Macca is the general that will be very hard to replace.
Hansen was terrible once the ball hit the ground in the game against the wiggles. He took some great contested marks but the ground ball is really a struggle for him. Had not noticed this so much with gumbelton but it would not be surprising after his major back surgery and if this is the case it is not going to get better.
I've noticed lately that Johnson has looked like he is stepping up into an important leadership role, even if he is not the fullback that mcpharlin is I think he has the smarts to be the next general. Also Lee Spur is proving to be a gun back pocket and if he is the Glenn Archer double we are seeing now, I'm sure he can provide leadership in coming years. Without doubt ATM when we lose Macca we have big problems I'd say that the coaching staff would be working on contingency plans.Lastly, we seem to cope ok with out KPF Pav, but note that our two losses the year has been without McPharlin. Or rubbed out by ASADA.
Gumby basically took himself off the market last year because of some sense of loyalty to the Bombers; misguided perhaps but he opted to stay with them on a one year deal.
He was travelling well in terms of fitness late last year and a club, possibly Fremantle, may have been agreeable to a two or three year deal.
It's moot now because he wanted to show loyalty to them.
He has effectively signed his death warrant now as i can't see any club wanting to gamble on him next year and he'll probably be cut by Essendon.
Interesting the use of jibe and not jibLearnt something new - god bless BF forums.
Jibe - To change course by swinging a fore-and-aft sail across a following wind.
Jib - The triangular sail set between the foretopmast head and the jib boom.
Phrase is 'cut of your jib' - first used by Sir Walter Scott in 1824 to represent someone's general appearance or demeanour. So jibe is a malaproprism, but still with a nautical theme.
The same question was also posed to the bean counter that ran for member election. I think he answered with something along the lines of 'I wasn't there during that period in the company's history' or something to that effect. Can't remember the original poster on here, but think moo may have had it as his sig for a while.

Remember the name, hopefully Chris25 can help us out.Just went and asked the North guys who were following the game. Apparently he did his knee in his draft year and has been playing state league in Tazzie and came over to Weribee this year to try and get drafted. Looks a real likely type to me. Ben Brown.
