So what are people prepared to trade to get a key forward. As far as I can tell we are out of free agency options and most people can agree that the kind of forward we will get in the PSD without trading is going to be ... well limited.

So cards on the table. Who are you putting up for a trade?

Is it Mitchie or Sheridan as they are interchangable
Is Mellington not going to get a game with Son Son, Balaz and the Croz sharking the forward line
Is it Hannath because we have 5 rucks

Would people be prepared to pay more to get a real talent.

Is it Suban because there are a number of good young 'uns
Is it Zark cos Hannath is a lump that will do the Job
Are you going the Gu as you recon that we have all the endurance we need

Who's got the guts to make a big call and put a real player in the spotlight like Hill.

Mitchie: Even though he has played 1 game, I refuse to trade him as he has some Ability. Mundys contract runs out next season as he will have tempting offers.

Sheridan: Pick 16 in the 2011 draft, Dont want to trade him with a 2nd round pick, It would mean Sheridan would be a failure...

Mellington: Maybe...

Suban: No chance in Hell of trading him after all, he has been on our list for 5 seasons and has played 70-80 games under us. I like him for his determination alone and he is a handy goal kicking mid.

Zac Clarke and Hannath are untradeable as our other 2 ruckmen are Sandi who is at the end of his career and Griffin with a knee.

Hannath, Not possible as he is in his 1st season.

Mzungu: I also dont want to because of similar reasons to Suban. He is a goal-kicking mid.

Stephen Hill: Your kidding me right? He is one of our best players in the club.





I refuse to trade any of our good players and our good picks. I remember the 2006 draft where Fre needed another Key Forward and we traded Pick 8 and Medhurst for Chris Tarrant. That Stuffed our club for 3 years.

Regardless who gets de-listed. I am hoping freo use 4 picks in the Draft: use our 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks in which the 1st pick is best available regardless of position. Use the 2nd round pick for a key forward. 3rd pick for best available again.

our Final pick should be a PSD pick as a Key Forward... I want that Player to be one of 2 options...

1. An experienced Key Forward Whether its Jesse White from the Swans, Lewis Johnston from the crows, Luke Mcguane from the tigers or any other player that has played AFL at another club.

2. A Mature-aged player from the WAFL, SANFL, VFL or any other league aged between 20-25 that is serviceable.


Regardless which of the 2 options it will be.... The Person who will be chosen in the PSD pick will be in our starting 22 on round 1, 2014.

So glad we picked up Hannath, Smith, Taberner, Howson and Moller in the draft last year.
This covers us for the long term, but we need someone around the 50-100 game mark to slot in between our senior blokes who i think we'll be chasing in the PSD/Trade/FA period.

If we can get Jesse White in the PSD it's a no brainier IMO.
I'm not sure what price we'd have to put on his to head to deter other clubs though.

Not to be rude, but that is just false. Surely every club's recruiting department appreciates that in trading there is a necessity to find a win-win. With it there is no value in trading at all and everyone walks around handing out players for free.

It's true that not all trades will be perfectly balance but that comes as a result of a number of factors, but primarily the circumstance the club is in.

Any club will now that obviously we are chasing a forward, but they are also aware of their own players value. They my be able to twist our arm slightly but surely they'd now that twist to far and the deal is off and you leave in no better a scenario.

I don't want to lose either of these guys but our most valuable players to other clubs and us in a trade are Hill and Zarcke. Both are young, huge potential, very well known and most importantly under contract, meaning if someone wants them they will have to pay overs to get them e.g a first rounder or another very good player in return. Talk of Suban, Gu and others being traded is realistic, but to me just reeks of '2nd round upgrade' or the like in terms of what we get. IMO the two I mentioned at the start are the type of players we will need to trade if we want to get something exceptional at years end such as a highly rated KPF, be they in the draft or currently playing.

watching the power forwards last night just reminded me again how vital dominant and skilful big guys are.
I also went into a semi depressive state seeing just how many of each both Hawks and Essendon have - far out , no wonder they both sit 1 & 2 on the ladder.

We need to wake up and realise we're only ever going to be a mid table top 8 team until we can add some power and class to our fwd line, that's no slur on Pav nor the others but he can't do all the power work on his own, and our A-grade crumbers just don't get enough opportunity with the oppositions key backs killing our weaker 2nd tall.

I hate to think and say it but we're going to have to give up a Hill/ Zac Clarke type and some if we're serious about attracting talent.

To all the detractors that scoff at the idea - which Hawk or Essendon mid directly contributed/influenced 8 goals last night from mostly 50/50 situations ala Franklin ?

hypothetical problem solving 3 way trade:
We upgrade our first round pick by bundling it with Sheridan or mellington to a team with a higher pick.
We then trade this upgraded first pick plus Stephen Hill to Essendon, who in turn trade bellchambers and crameri ( both surplus to their needs ) to GWS for pick one

Tom Boyd is a mirage being spooked by GWS to give the AFL the right noises. At best they will be happy to go down the draft by two places and want a quality player. The best we can hope for is that Melbourne and GWS stay down the bottom for the next 2-3 years while getting some quality development into the talls they will be stockpiling and then feed on their carcasses as Pav is retiring and just keep targeting free agents.

I was thinking last night watching Hurley be pretty damn ordinary all night as a KPF that he and Vickery were the last 2 really highly rated ones we had a free hit at the year we took Hill. That is 5 years ago and in that time Hill has played 100 pretty decent games for us and the 2 big guys haven't even really hit their straps yet.

This post of course ignore the fact that we didn't draft Jack the lad who kicked 50+ in his first couple of years and puts on more forward pressure that most smalls.

Silva has done everything RTB has asked of him and more .

He has filled the holes and given his all at the contest what more could you ask of the man

Silva doesn't have the height of a tall forward but because of his effort to create a contest our small forwards have got more of the ball because he gets the ball to ground for them to feed off .

No one has expected him to take hold of the CHF position and dominate because he doesn't have the skill to do that but he does compete physically and no one gets an easy possession on him .

He is also very mobile and applies forward pressure on opposition backs by chasing and applying tackles , the roll RTB is asking him to do nothing more nothing less .

His effort around stoppages is first class also he gives it everything he's got which is why he's being subbed out when the team needs more run in the midfield cause there's nothing left in the tank .

When Duffy has more development in his body and can stay fit he will get Silvas role IMO but until then
beggars can't be choosers and we use what we have got .

Sheedy has taken him off the trading table and is now going to keep him because he wants twin towers in the forward line like the Hawks .

Develop the young draftees or die because every time other than Modra , Elvis and Tarrant we haven't been successful in getting a KPP .
Tarrant was a dud FF but we converted him to a backman and then he went home when we needed him most.
So develop the draftees because hopefully they will stay the same as Pav.

We are very financially sound at the moment but keep an eye for the next couple of years cause I don't want the situation to occur where one of our gun players is being head hunted and we don't have the salary cap space to compete and we loose a real gooden because we gave a 4\5 Million bid for a FPP.

Every club tries to get the best deal possible for them. If a club lets another screw them over in a trade, don't think the other club will be nice and say no, we cant take your first round pick, we only want your 2nd round pick.

I would be really surprised if he left. We have so much cap space that we'll offer him as much as anyone else could. Plus the allure of finishing off with a flag, along with Pav and Lukey, is obviously strong. Is he up for the veteran's list as well?

Anyway, the more I think about a key forward the more obvious it becomes: Jack Darling.

There just aren't too many key forwards around. The ones worth chasing are locked up. You don't see Jack Darling as a million dollar-a-year player, but we don't set the price. These next two or three years are the greatest chance this football club has ever had at tangible success. If we have to pay overs for him, who cares? I'd make a big offer to him. And a big offer to the Eagles. We have enviable midfield depth and the Eagles can barely field a competitive middle five – perfect.

I don't care if he's an arrogant prick. I don't care. Matthew Scarlett seems like the biggest prick to ever play for the Cats. Half those Collingwood premiership players were w***ers or bogans (or both). No one sits down after that winning final siren and laments one purportedly 'bad' person. heck that.

Jack Darling is not the sort of player that you can build a forward line around. He's a complementary forward, a bit like Mayne is. You put Darling in our forward line without Pavlich and he's going to cop the best key defender every week and probably get towelled. We could get better value elsewhere given we'd probably have to pay $500k+ to get him. I'd rather get an ordinary key forward with at least some size for not many $ to fill the same role.
