Jack Darling is not the sort of player that you can build a forward line around. He's a complementary forward, a bit like Mayne is. You put Darling in our forward line without Pavlich and he's going to cop the best key defender every week and probably get towelled. We could get better value elsewhere given we'd probably have to pay $500k+ to get him. I'd rather get an ordinary key forward with at least some size for not many $ to fill the same role.

Who's gettable and better value? I've never had a look at every list, but I can't think of a genuine power forward. And we need someone with some presence. Even if they take the best defender, opening up Mayne and Ballantyne is seriously beneficial. Our forward structure is so all over the place – a great attribute of those blokes we have is their defensive pressure and their hard running... freeing them up do that, without leaving an empty 50, is a good thing.

We won't win a flag unless we spend the money, make the trade, and get a good forward.

For me, would go after Mitch Clark. Melbourne have Dawes, hogan, and watts. Plus two rucks. Maybe, trade Sheridan and our second round picks for Clark and third round pick.

Would he come now?

I mean, theoretically he should. Got to go to Melbourne for a bit and now he can claim a flag and get (maybe even more) good money at Freo. He'd be an alright get but I don't know if it'd be a chance of happening.

If it was, I'd give up Sheridan, Michie, and a second rounder. Or Sheridan and a first rounder.

Yeah, but already we can put Taberner down there and he gets the key defender (and isn't really competitive). They don't put those guys on Mayne because he's too agile for them. Darling isn't agile enough to outrun them and not big enough to beat them in 1 on 1's. Even this year in a forward line with Kennedy and Le Cras he's looked average, with only the occasional big game and that's on the 2nd or 3rd string key defender. He would only be a small upgrade on what we have now for a huge cost.

I'd rather Jesse White. A lot cheaper, wouldn't need to trade much and not likely to be much less effective.

Rubbish. But we might lose one if we do and stuff it up. In most cases, trading for top line players is fraught with danger. If he's a free agent then go for it.

I'd rather bloody Dawes

Bloody back Dawes?

Having a collection of reasonable tall forwards may not be a bad solution IMO. It may be different to the current top teams but RTB does tend to create trends rather than follow.

If we had say three talls - Mayne, Tabs and one other, complemented by Ballas, Mikey and one other; if we can lock the ball in our forward fifty (as we were doing earlier in the season) then the big marking key forward is not as critical.

AT 191 cm, he is 1 cm shorter than The Pav. And in relation to his strength, I'd think that he'd still having some bulking up to do - he's only just turned 21.

When is Cameron out of contract? Lets save up our war chest till then and pay him 2 mill a year. Hopefully no one will have cash like that and we can get him in the PSD.

But, here's hoping we don't get many higher order draft picks in coming years (consistently top four?)

People throwing up names like Cameron and Darling must have rocks in their heads. Those players will be at their respective clubs until Free agency. Especially seeing as neither club is short of cash to pay them.

Money isn't going to get these things done alone you know, we do have to trade for these players. I reckon we'd have to give up someone like Mundy and our first round for someone like Cameron and we won't do that. And we wouldn't get Darling for our first round.

Realistically, we will be trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the off season again. I could see us swapping Sheridan and our first rounder for a pick upgrade to get a decent tall.

If they were offered picks 1 and 2 in the draft they still wouldn't trade Cameron.

If we had Cameron on our list I wouldn't trade him either.

The conversation would go like this :

"Hey ahh How much for J.C"?

"What you got."

Pause...Wait just until they are about to speak and then cut them off with -

"Not enough. Good day sir"

Crazy talk for sure...We'll have to draft a youngster, maybe reach a bit for a kpf and get some one like J.White.

Tonight also showed that Fyfe is a dangerous forward. We have an excess of mids. The last 4 games this year seems like a great time to give it a try for more than 5 minutes.
This whole forward situation can easily be resolved if we use one of the several good inside mids at our disposal wasting their talents in the WAFL and put fyfe, who plays tall and is practically the same height as Pav anyway, into the forward line.

Probably happening already with Neale playing.
