I was against it last year but hasn't Gumbleton been fit all year just not breaking into the team?

Seriously can't believe people keep mentioning Watts, the bloke is a joke of a footballer and Melbourne will want a lot for him.

Without listening to it again I can't be sure, but the impression I got from listening to Ross on the radio was that they had a look at Gumbleton last year, he made his decision to stay at ASADAdon, so he's made his bed and now he can lie in it.

I noticed this little article in the AFL's website:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-07/hogan-happy-to-wait

Great to see that young Jess is resisting Melbourne's overtures (given that GC prelist Jack Martin has already extended & Melbourne rookie Toumpas was extended before he kicked a ball for Melbourne, you can't tell me that Melbourne haven't bent over backwards to get Hogan to extend his contract).

Also is heartening to see that Jesse often returns to Perth to "freshen up" - hopefully this is a sign of a young man who wants to be in Perth permanently.

C'mon Jesse - you know you want to wear purple !!!!!

Would love to see Jesse become a hero for us sometime in the near future.

It was mentioned by Seppo on the Freo Bigfooty podcast, but Fremantle are looking at recruiting Sean Hurley (195cm) from Ireland. It is great to see that we are considering all our options in our search for a key forward.

http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/interna...kildare-pair-set-for-afl-trials-in-australia/
Fremantle have been aware of Hurley, 21, since the AFL Draft Combine last year, while recruitment manager Brad Lloyd watched a number of Kildare’s Under-21 games.

The same can be said of Johnston at Adelaide.

He he is not injury prone. He kicked 50 goals in the SANFL last season. He has kicked 40 odd this season in the SANFL again. Only reason he hasnt played a game for the crows in the 1st half of this season is due to being behind Walker, Jenkins, Mckernan and lynch.

Interesting that a lot of Demon FC fans already think Hogan will leave their club:
http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/34705-we-could-lose-jesse-hogan/

They reckon he's homesick / got a perth based girlfriend / etc. I hope they're right.

Some of the Dees fans reckon that Melbourne haven't formally presented with an extension contract - that's not what this article back in June reckoned:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...n-star-in-making/story-fni5f91a-1226662745291

Gee I want that kid at our club.

Interesting stuff. We might as well take advantage of the category 2 rookies. Kpps haven't come through lately from ireland but at 21 he's more likely to progress quickly. Probably will take just as long to get to his potential as a normal draftee unless he is some sort of freak though. Certainly can't fault the club though, no list spot taken and the more options we try the more likely we are to find a gem.

Wouldn't mind us trying someone under the 3YNR Rule either. Lachie Keefe goes alright. Perhaps look for a basketballer who is slightly too short. If one of Moller, Hurley or any other category 2 rookie comes off it's a huge bonus, if more than one does then wow, imagine the possibilities.

Yes Please! Any chance of homesickness and also being WA mean Freo recruiting comittee must pounce. Offer first round pick and maybe a fringe player.. It is well known we need a KPF so better chance as any. Also Port Adelaide having Mason Shaw will be looked at. PAFC got a fair few forwards on their list so could have Shaw being homesick in a year or two.

Funny thing was Freo could of got Mason Shaw last year but got Josh Simpson instead.

I reckon he will be out of contract in 2014, Also there would be another Tall forward out of contract in 2014 as a free agent: Justin Westoff.

If only we had something to offer them that they needed, say a gun midfielder who couldn't get a game in our first 22 but was tearing it up in th WAFL. ;)

If he doesn't break into the team by mid next season, you would have to think he has better value coming to Freo particularly with Pav being 32 years old. Shaw will get more chances. Plus Westhoff wont leave if paid handsomely so would probably squeeze Shaw out.

He should of got a game this year at Port though. Apparently his form in the SANFL has been decent...

I would find it funny that Freo say were interested in Westoff just to Bump up his price at Port. Just like Cloke at collingwood last season.

hurley's apparently a towering midfielder guys.
Guess not knowing the game yet could turn into a key-forward and use pace and endurance that he'd have (being a midfielder) to his advantage

There's a good reason why no Irishman has been able to crack it as a key position forward. It is the hardest position to play in the game. It takes years of learning how to lead and read the play to be a successful forward. Playing as an outside mid or halfback is the most similar role to Gaelic football or hurling, and that's why virtually every Irishman who has ever played in the AFL has played there. Even O'Hailpin spent years playing in the backline before having a crack as a forward.

Hogan would be very hard to get. We would have to give up something special for him. They would ask for a fyfe or a hill , which we wouldn't do.

With Hogan all we gotta do is wait.

Apparently he won't sign an extension. Anyone have more knowledge on this?

as dorky as this might sound, he's afraid of little kids pretty much. 10-15 year old signs interviews and thats it.(FACT) Apparantly being there big hope he has to give speech's and etc in front of kids and even adults creep him out - kinda shy bloke. (Whisper)
Also heard he's homesick a bit and would not help that Melbourne are such a bad team.
When he play junior footy there were 2 teams in his grade and they were about even, the team he played in he was the only good player and he moved so that he wouldn't be the centre of attention as much.
Could see him not liking being the bloke to carry the team after that.
P.S. My youngest sister went to school with him last year ...

Eric Wallace looking more than alright in his first yr for North
http://www.nmfc.com.au/video/2013-08-07/vfl-eric-wallace-highlights

Assuming we take hurley he'll be a defender so what we could do is upgrade moller to the rookie list and have a dip with an american as they will probably get marking a bit more in packs - rebounding from basketball. Also could aplly good pressure inside 50 for big men.

Those highlights are from VFL development level which I'm assuming is like reserves in the WAFL.

Howson bags 5 goals a game in the ressies...

not saying he's the man for us but think an american is good idea, his first yr of football and shows promising signs. By no means am i shouting recruit him.
