Not sure if he's been mentioned but why don't we have a crack at Sam Reid from Sydney? he's going to be 3rd in line behind Tippet and Franklin. I think he'd be a good fit, not sure what it would take to get the deal done, maybe our first and 2nd picks in this years draft

not keen on both!! Suban/Deboer could go but we can't get rid of both those draft picks.

I know Jesse White said Collingwood is his preferred club, but I think we could still recruit him if we offered our first pick. It is almost certainly paying overs for a 25 year old who has only really played consistently in the last twelve games of 2013, but if the match committee thinks he could be the difference between us winning a premiership than I still think he is worth a punt. Add Jesse White, Sylvia (if both players play to their potential) and Crozier (version 2014) to the team that contended for the premiership and we would have a team with zero weaknesses. Thoughts anyone?

I think we should go really hard at a Full Back. Clearly not going to happen, but I cant see Dawson stopping Reid/TIppett/Franklin - goes to Reid with Mcpharlin Tippett and Johno Franklin you'd think.

I appreciate what he brings but he can be uprgaded and is definately ONE of our weaker areas. The main reason for it though, is that when Mcpharlin goes he can come back in to Full-Back, with this new guy playing the Mcpharlin role.

Upgrade him now, get him to work on kicking and things for peel - win Peel Premiership, come back neext year play same role with a little more rebound.

Tanner Smith has all the attributes to be a great defender.
Just needs to be developed.
Also Silvagni has shown he is capable of doing the job.
I think we are in an ok situation down back.

Hannath lacks mobility/effort imo
Taberner needs time in the gym so not convinced on either of them so forward line is still a massive problem.

not saying our defense is weak, however if Mcpharlin hangs up the boots end of this year, might be hard to cover the likes of Buddy etc.

Silvagni comes in and towels up Buddy like normal.
Then the following year Smith should be good to go
Only seen him play 2 games but has the perfect attributes for a defender.
Tall, athletic, good closing speed and long arms perfect for spoiling.
Have not seen him play and do great down back yet but with those attributes he should be very good.

Yes you are right - we need to think laterally (eg swans/buddy). Not just tie ourselves to the known possibilities.
Something tells me there is an eruption about to take place at the Saints. Senior players ready to go marching out. Blind freddy could tell we need a ready-to-go key forward to top up our flag tilt in 2014.
So.................. wrap up our first and third pick + player or whatever it may take to re-unite RTB with Nick Riewoldt. Then see if we could perhaps sway Jesse White to forget Collingwood with an offer too good to refuse.
This is our time people. We must be bold and serious enough to give up some value to grab our chance.
Anyone agree?
Riewoldt would cost too much and not the benefit we are searching for IMO
He seriously struggled to run out the season be it in s struggling team where as Westhoff was flying against Geelong in the Finals.

Let's not mortgage our future here. While we should obviously be going for a flag in 2014, I don't want us to be in a situation like St Kilda now where they're basically stuffed for the next 5 years at least.

Starting to warm to the idea of getting J-Pod for nothing. As for Riewoldt and Westhoff, sure would like them at the club but I see J-Pod being a better short term option. We would get J-Pod for nothing and at best would get 1-2 years out of him. Plus he costs us nothing which allows us to still draft players.

Mitch Thorpe, are we keen; what do we know about this guy? Are we in the market for a CHF now we have col?? He is young.

Got a feeling that Gumbleton is plan a and Podsiadly is plan b at this stage. Can't see plan b failing provided we don't get Gumbleton either. Maybe in the draft we will still want another key forward. History shows we need to use our first rounder to get quality kpps 9 times out of 10, so we are perhaps better off looking at Thorp if we miss out in the first round as a; he had the talent to be a first rounder before and b; no waiting time to see if/when the kpp is ready to play afl footy.

Nope I think that Sam Reid is plan a, Jessie White plan b and J-Pod and Gumby are fighting it out for the minor placings.

The question is what would you pay for a 22yr 196cm KPP who was injured for the majority of the season just gone 1 yr into a 5 yr deal.

Reid won't happen as he has a massive contract and Sydney will want way too much. Answer to your question is probably our first rounder but only our first rounder.
White although leaving looks set on Collingwood, I do agree we shouldn't give up though.
I think it's going to come down to Gumbleton and his intentions, very much doubt Podsiadly is anything but a last resort, he may even be after Thorp in preferences.

IMO the value of the following players
Reid First Rounder
White Second Rounder
Gumbleton Second Rounder
Thorp Third Rounder
Podsiadly Unrestricted Free Agent

Happy to add Michie or Mellington to the picks I've listed for the first three if it gets the deal over the line.

Could Hannath be developed as a forward? Seems to have a reasonable set shot, has the height - and we have a plethora of rucks at the moment. Could he slim down and be trained to be more mobile? Read somewhere that he also played as a forward when he was younger, so not really starting from scratch with him.

Not being able to pick anyone up despite going for PRACTICALLY EVERYONE is disheartening. We should have a bloody COLA!

U wot m8?

Would do it in a heartbeat.. only KPF on the move who is worth it IMO, unless you can somehow talk Sam Reid into moving but i dont like the chances of that.
