Maybe this also has something to do with Michie? To most it seems that he and Lachie are ready to step up to the plate and a move like this to let Barlow go in a trade for a KPF means our midfield is full of young guns and we get a player we need. I've been expecting a trade with some one good from our midfield to get an established KPF. I would have thought Hill or DeBoer.

I tell you what. I would be devastated to see ANY of our midfielders, regular 22 or not, in red and white next year. That team will be strong enough !!!! I would hate to see mitchie win a premiership along Franklin with them instead of us

Mitchie wants to go to Victoria. Where he doesn't have to pay $ 700 000 000 for a 2 bedroom apartment

Sydney needs to get rid of Reid because of salary cap pressure. Which is why he will be cheaper than usual.

If we're talking to Reid's management that means that we have Sydney's permission because his still contracted which means a deal between Freo and Sydney has already been agreed to, we just have to convince Reid to come to WA for the deal to be done.

Can't see players involved in the trade because Sydney needs to dump salary cap money. I reckon picks are involved only.

Why the hell would we on sell a vital cog of our engine room?! I know we need to give quality to get quality, but come on!
Take it with a grain of salt. I did. I only posted that after I saw the Reid link earlier, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered because it's just rumour.
If there is substance to it, maybe we are at loggerheads with the swans where they want Barlow and we are only prepared to give up Suban. Who knows? but we haven't been bent over the trade table for several years now and I don't expect it to resume now.

That is still possible if more than two clubs are involved.

Obviously Freo will have to trade some players to improve its first round pick.

We might not have high draft picks but never underestimate salary cap space it is as important when trading for players.

We could get really good players/higher draft picks for cheap and receive unwanted high wage/fringe players just to take cap pressure off other teams.

Fyfe and Mundy are our only untradeable mids
The others are replaceable.
Sure not replaceable with the same skills they bring but they will bring other things to the table the others cant.
Eg Barlow is replaceable, his replacement may not be as good as getting all them handballs out when tackled, but he will bring more pace, better skills etc
Hill is replaceable, great kick and pace but just does not get enough of it to use them abilities.
Replacement for him will just need to get around 25 touches a game to have the same impact as Hills 15.

There's the effect on team culture trading Barlow or Hill.

Barlow is the good news story of our team and pretty much the league. Respected and a leader. That is not easily replaceable.

Hill is a west aussie kid who once again is massive part of the substance of our team.

Do people honestly not include this kind of stuff in the equation when suggesting deals or players we should trade?

I agree. Maybe I am reaching, but I see Micky as someone who will play for Freo for the rest of his career if we kept him. Given how we picked him up after he had been overlooked for so long, followed by how we stuck by him through his rehab after that horrific fracture, it's pretty obvious how much he now loves the club and the team.

I suspect he would agree for a trade if we engineer it mainly because it would be doing us a favor. He may be replaceable in terms of being able to get an upgrade in skills, but I don't think it will be that easy to replace his desire to play for the jumper and how contagious that is to the rest of the playing group, especially the younger guys.
