Do a deal like Jamar for Thorp, then both win.

Jamar gets a chance at success with the hawks mids under his feet and Hawthorn get their ruckman.

Thorp gets AFL games in a forward line without buddy and roughie to take his spot and Melbourne has key forwards to develop and build a team around (Thorp and Watts [with jurrah to float]).

Reckon the trade for Jamar is a good option. I think on talent we want to get the best 2 players in the land - it appears that scouts think this is Scully and Trengrove.
So we have to have another way of getting a tall at around where they should be valued. If getting an early pick by trading Jamar I would be up for that for sure.
Anotehr option is to trade away pick 18 for someone like a Thorp - who might be ok if given the game time (heard a bit about him last year - but not sure if people still rate him at all) - if not him someone else.
That way we can be sure we will get a tall for our structure and on Draft day we can go the two mids??
Jamar has been good this year - but I also agree we have a few ruckman who have AFL expirience which is great - if we have an unbelieble midfield it becomes a bit less important to have a super dominant ruckman (as compared to having a midfield which is just a pass).
So one way or the other - I hope MFC sort a key position prospect so we can take whoever we feel is the best players in the draft.

Said that 2 weeks ago and is the best option for us to obtain a kpp

It will all come down to attitude. There is no way the Dee's have already made a decision. They looks at the mental side as well as the footy side these days. they won't make a decision until the draft camp has finished. Except Scully, I reckon he'd be a lock in.

Wouldnt trade pick 18 for thorp, there must be a reason why he cant get a game at all for the hawks

I'd be happy to trade 18 for Thorp, provided he's recovered from his injuries and has the right attitude.

The Hawks have been trying to mould him into a backman, when he's a natural forward, and has also had injuries both seasons on the list hence not getting much of a game.

Pick 18 this year might get us a half decent talent, where as Thorp was thought good enough to go pick 6 in a pretty strong draft and has had 2 seasons in the system already so is potentially ready to make an immediate impact.

Where have these whispers about Jamar wanting to go back to SA come from?

Dont mind the idea of trading him to Port to upscale pick 18- not 100% convinced Port would go for it though.

And what in God's name makes anyone want to leave Melbourne (city) to go back to Adelaide? It's the only city in Australia where the population is DECLINING and I have no idea what its appeal is! There's been a few players (AFL wide) that have made this perplexing move and I'll never figure it out!

Maybe becuase he...ummm....i dunno... wants to live with his Family!!!

I don't want to trade Jamar, he has improved a lot this year take for example big footy player of the year he has polled in every game he has played and has played some great footy.

He shouldn't be traded especially considering Johnson is fast going backwards, spencer needs time and so does Martin and Meesen needs to get his body right.

Oh cheers. I couldnt figure it out

It was a joke aimed at highlighting the ineptitude of the city of Adelaide chief :thumbsu:

Perhaps better suited to the bay :D

Anyway I agree that Jamar has improved considerably- but nonetheless if the right deal comes along then he is tradeable.

We'd be banking on Meeson to be injury free but as someone mentioned Seaby is available practically for free- so if it was really necessary we could take him.

Otherwise I've been impressed by Stef's progression in the ruck- being 200cm and of a basketball background means it's relatively natural for him- and that's evident in his tapwork. A pre-season with the ruck and forwards coach could mean we have a very handy tall forward option and back-up ruck there.

I would be keeping Jamar because Johnson has shown little to no improvement this year and should be delisted, is only clogging up the list. I was also not that impressed with Meeson and wouldnt be resting the number 1 ruck position on him. Spence as well has not improved this year but should be retained because of his promise.

I have liked a few of the ideas that have been raised on here so far.

Jamar has been good when he has played this year but putting up for trade has some merit depending - whats on offer.

Thorp would be handy also but I'm not sure how much the Hawks will want in return.

Personally I would like to see us try and lure Chris Dawes from the Pies. He has been in the system for a few years now but is only getting the odd game here & there. I think he is a safer bet than trying to get Thorp. I'm not sure the Pies would be willing to deal but you don't know unless you ask. Dawes is ready made to be a focal point up forward and someone we could use with Watts, Jurrah, Bate to become successful in the future.

Im all up for trading aggressively to improve our position in this draft - but it would want to be good to let Jamar go. I think we are really weak in the ruck and I think we might delist Johson this year too. That only leaves Spencer and Meeson with limited decent ruckmen in this draft. We would need to secure a pretty high pick to let Jamar go I reckon.

Thorp would be a good target but it would be a complicated trade to appease Hawthorne. Maybe we could tempt them with Warnock and our third round pick for Thorp and their second round pick - or something along those lines??

No! Our biggest and most consistant defender?

He's not pretty but people underestimate his importance to us.

As much as this pains me to say he is our Prestigiacomo.

Warnock can easily be replaced by Martin at Full Back
No he can't. He might be able to be replaced by Garland and Frawley but certainly not Martin. Martin's strength are his speed and athleticism but I think it would take him up to 50 more games at full back for him to be any good there. He just can't keep track of a man and the ball at the same time like good full backs can. He could play CHB adequately but Rivers and Frawley are ahead of him.

I disagree with Dez a little bit, I think big Stef is better suited to be a ruckmen with forward tricks than the other way round. It's a matter of technicalities I suppose but I'd want 2 talls (say Watts, Jurrah) and some more marking power (Bate etc) with Martin playing maybe a quarter up forward.

I like the Jamar trade deal if we could get it through.

We would be weak in the ruck but hopefully the young rucks of Martin, Meesen and Spencer can develop with the young mids. I am enjoying watching Martin in the Ruck and hopefully getting his ball skills to match his athleticism.

Would we look at adding Jones, Dunn or Bartram to this mix as we seem to have a few of these one paced mids?

Cheers

I know what youre saying - but we have to let something decent go if we want to gain something decent. And Hawthorne might offer something as they need a decent key defender. I think Warnock is replacable over the next few years by our younger defenders, and if we got a young tall marking forward out of the deal, I would go for it for sure.

Watts will be such a star after next year that he'll release his own version of this
