Does anyone really believe we'd pass up Trengrove for Butcher who hasn't set the world on fire.

I reckon we should look at pick 18 and a player for an established forward.

What do you base this on? Here say and conjecture? Or have you actually watched him? Because his stats are fantastic actually.

Doesn't seem like a reliable kick for goal, he's almost 50/50.

Where the hell can you get the SANFL stats? I want to look at Trengoves.

I know that he didn't play SANFL last weekend because he wanted to play school footy one last time.

The only specifics I know is that in one match he got 32 possessions and kicked 3 behinds, and in another match he got 16 touches in a half.

Other than that, I just know he's been really consistent and playing very well at senior level given his age.

Can we get some discussion happening on some key forwards for the Dees? It's looking likely we will take Scully and Trengove with picks 1 & 2 as they are out and out guns, which leaves our third pick for a key forward. I like the look of Matthew Panos but will he be available by then?
Our forward line will be incredibly raw next year, particulalry if we palm Miller off somewhere. A bit of agro would also be handy in the forward line.
Garland.:thumbsu:

Stats do not show everything. They dont show how windy it was , how far out he was , how many where touched. etc etc. One thing that can be seen is his contested marking.

we can always chuck a defender up fwd. garland originally was a forward. you also have morton who could be used as a third tall if he puts some weight on. you have sylvia and bate who can rotate throught the fwd line. watts and jurrah and i think we should use our 2nd round pick to pick up a kpf like panos, carlisle or one of the other tall fwds. remember in a few years we won't have mcdonald, bruce and green so we should pick up two good mids now and in later drafts look at drafting small fwds, small defenders and rucks. don't bother about getting rid of miller, have him push up into the midfield a bit and have him playing a role like riewoldt. we also have newton for at least another year it looks like so use him. and dunn can go fwd and petterd as well

Here you go Dez. Scroll down to pdf links for each match, you need to go through them a match at a time but they give all basic stats (SANFL 1s only)...

Jake Carlisle new video. Looks quite good, a nice contested mark. Definitely a key position player...but I think he will get taken before pick 17

My concern with that is that as impressive as his stats are, he is playing against kids in a mans body. Reeks of Tomahawkness- massive kid dominating juniors then struggling against the men. Perhaps unfair on Tomahawk so early on but you get my point...

Contested marks against fellow 18yr olds who haven't grown into their bodies is different to contested marks on your Scarletts, Lakes etc...

He looks ok. Gets pushed off the ball a little easy and doesnt present himself enough as a lead-up target. But he contests well and has a good second effort. More versatile than say Panos or Vardy. I think we'de be pretty interested if he falls to pick 18.

I have only seen limited vision of Butcher but in my opinion he looks good, he can take a great mark and his kicking techinque does look sound...I personally would take him over trengove due to the fact he is a KPP and we need one now!

we cant wait another year for a KPF because they take at least a couple of years to develop...longer than midfielders...so if went want some success in the near future we need to start developing our key stocks now

futhermore panos, talia ect might not make it to pick 18

we cant put all our eggs in one basket with watts we need another KPF forward...yes bate, jurrah, petterd (maybe even dunn if they have the sense to player him forward) will be good contributers in the forward line, but the fact is they arnt KPF's and never will be...just look how bate managed with his FF role earlier this year...

By the way Butch does look fairly skinny to me, wouldnt say his playing in a man body...

Must take trengrove i feel because whilst some say the KPP talent drops off, there is still the likes of Panos, Vardy, Talia, Griffiths, Fitzpatrick and surely just 1 of them will slip to pick 18 with players like morabito, rohan, colyer, lucas, butcher all being taken from the range of 2 - 18.

So there must be a strong chance that 1 of those big men will slip to 18

Anyone heard the "whispers" about Jamar "apparently" wanting to go back SA?

Got me thinking if it turned out to be true I've got a proposed trade:

Jamar + Pick 18 for Port's 1st round pick.

With Lade retiring it makes it that much more possible, Bell could be used as a sweetener if that's not enough. I know people think Bell wouldn't be much of a sweetener but given a fresh start he could do a "Rhyce Shaw" and prove to be a very handy player at his new club.

That would give us picks 1, 2 and one of either 8/9/10 which would almost guarantee us a choice out of Vardy, Panos, Talia or Griffiths.

This is of course for my preference of Trengove over Butcher.

Could be used for if we selected Butcher at 2 instead of Trengove and we could take someone like Rohan or another outside mid with good skills at whatever pick we got from Port 8/9/10.

We could go after Seaby to fill the hole left by Jamar.

Although this is completely hypothetical and highly unlikely, just a thought that came to mind.

I've loved Jamar this year, but I see merit in your point. With the Meese being Unleashed this year, and Martin being groomed as our back up with PJ and Spencer both as back ups, it could be the perfect chance for us to take advantage of the current value the Russian holds. If he could have another big game this week as much as it would pain me to lose another ruckman (see Simmonds, Jolly) it would be silly to not capatlize on the opportunity if Port were willing to deal.

Maybe a swap of 3rd round picks too.

Reckon the trade for Jamar is a good option. I think on talent we want to get the best 2 players in the land - it appears that scouts think this is Scully and Trengrove.
So we have to have another way of getting a tall at around where they should be valued. If getting an early pick by trading Jamar I would be up for that for sure.
Anotehr option is to trade away pick 18 for someone like a Thorp - who might be ok if given the game time (heard a bit about him last year - but not sure if people still rate him at all) - if not him someone else.
That way we can be sure we will get a tall for our structure and on Draft day we can go the two mids??
Jamar has been good this year - but I also agree we have a few ruckman who have AFL expirience which is great - if we have an unbelieble midfield it becomes a bit less important to have a super dominant ruckman (as compared to having a midfield which is just a pass).
So one way or the other - I hope MFC sort a key position prospect so we can take whoever we feel is the best players in the draft.

Pick 18 is too high for Thorp, Hawthorn would need to throw in something else before we would go near that I'd hope.

As soon as I wrote that I thought more about it, and I agree with you Dez. I'd also only consider it if the medicos thought his body can handle it at the top level.

Wouldnt trade pick 18 for thorp, there must be a reason why he cant get a game at all for the hawks
