Key Position Player Crisis

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

We need to rebuild starting with good key position players, get this right then start building up the midfield and so forth. Going to take time, generally need high draft picks which we'll have so opportunity will be there hopefully. Hope that guys like Jaksch and Giles become very good players.

Not sure we need to find ones who will develop quickly, they are all going to take some time, as long as they develop together and come on around the time out midfield is coming on. Hopefully we don't get rushed and show enough patience.

we could have kept Waite for 2 years instead of one, instead we signed up Liam Jones for 3 years. Waite was frustrating as hell but he did take a key position when fit, would take him back in heartbeat. So now we have to play Henderson where he isn't suited and he's totally lost form or doesn't give a ****. Who is responsible for this list management?

I think the growing concern for us is that players appear to be wanting to leave, this has to be an area of concern for the club.

I can understand last year persisting with Hendo forward and Rowe back as Rowe did quite a good job, but this year he has struggled. This may also be due to the lack of midfield pressure, but we are in a sad state of affairs when players want to leave and would also be demoralizing to the younger players.

No doubt our KPP stocks are low at the moment but the issue is being exacerbated further by those who are on our list either playing poorly or not playing at all.

In fact I'd say every single KPP we have on the list is currently playing at a level well below their capabilities.

Things can change very quickly, though. Smart movements via trade, free agency and the draft can certainly bolster our stocks and if a few of our current bunch recapture form they are capable of, it would no longer be considered a crisis.

Dave Astbury could be looking to move maybe,
24 yo 195 cm 98 kg, played 40 games but missed 3 years with a knee injury (not reconstruction) had a knee cap that kept slipping out of place and was sorted last year . He was leading our BF until injured rnd 10 i believe

Would not be a bad placeholder option. Has the ability to play AFL level, would be considered an upgrade over some of the players already in the 22 as well. We (and other clubs) could do a lot worse.

Our Defence looks pretty settled and Dave might me looking for opportunity elswhere, Rumours that Leppa had a lot do do with him and rates him highly but maybe would prefer to stay in melb
Nup, pass.

Nothing against the guy as a player, but his name always makes me think of hemorrhoids.

Here's a plan.

Keep Hendo.
Get Carlisle.
Get Weitering.
Keep Kreuz.
Get Lunenberger.

Trade Yazz and get a Weiderman type.

Pretty flipping simple really isn't it.

Ok. So we lose LH and gain JC. We now have a CHB (Carlisle) and FF. Need FB and CHF.

Can't have second rate players down the spine.

Would be great if Jaksch could stand up after three years in the system. NICE SIZE. Needs a huge pre-season on the weights and could then, maybe play either FB or CHF. Then only have to trade for a GWS/GC 21 y.o KPP and we are set

I know I am stating the bleeding obvious, but boy are we in trouble with our KPP's.

Full Back: Jamo looks cooked
CHB: Rowe has gone backwards at an alarming rate
CHF: Hendo playing like he won't be with us next year
FF: Caz has a dip, his marking is A+ and his kicking has improved. 40 goals a year is his max. Will not kick us bags of 6-8 goals.

I know we are re-building, but KPP's take longer than on-ballers. We need to find some gems from the draft who can develop quickly!

Good luck SOS..
Agree things look grim, but my view is:

Jamo - is a quality player who can hold a good KPF for at least another two years while young players develop. Will need help for the Reiwolt endurance types of FF but is Best 22.
Rowe - had a tough season but is good for depth for next year. Not best 22. Could trade?
Hendo - FFS please move him back. Waste of his talent up forward, would prefer we keep him and avoid Carlisle.
Cas - has improved this year and is young. Lets see if he can continue to improve as he is showing he has some weapons (marking, crash packs, improved kicking...). Still needs to be getting more goals a game, but if delivery to him can improve...
Watson - probably gone? Not developed well? Not best 22. Trade?
Krueze - Awesome, good in the Ruck but even better around the ground. More game time he will be a Legend!
Giles - has bulked up, looking forward to seeing if he can play after 2 years out. Could be very handy down back (replace Rowe?). Keep (rookie?).
KJ - Can be a quality player. Will be third tall in 2016 and is ready for Best 22 now. Prefer down back to replace White.
Wood - stopgap Ruck. Good depth. Great workhorse. Keep.
Warnock - CFC will probably delist but I expect Sydney, Hawthorn, Essendon, Dogs or Geelong will rookie list for Ruck depth.
Jones - not best 22. But is contracted:(. Payout?
Foster - unknown as too young to judge. Keep.
Fields - shows some signs and has potential to become a third tall. Could play next year if he has a good preseason. Keep.
White - love attitude but needs to bulk up and stay aerobically fit. Depth player only. Trade? or Keep 1 year.

If we can upgrade with Weitering, Wilderman, SOSOS, a FF, etc. then we are not that far away from having a reasonable spine. If some of these young guys can improve we should get there.

2015 Back: Jamo, Hendo and KJ
2015 Forward: Cas, Kruezer/Wood (when both play), Everitt/Bell/Cripps (mid rotations)

Best mid, then the best mid after that and so on. We are possibly a dozen short. Eight for sure.
Is that you Wayne Hughes

Noooooo! We've been doing that for the past 8 years and it has left us in this position. We've always had that attitude of midfielders first then worry about KPP''s later, circa Wayne Hughes, Shane Rogers. It hasn't worked bar Patrick Cripps. My theory has always been (and I could be wrong),that you have a better chance of picking up a good mid later in the draft than a KPP so if a stand out key position is available early in the draft, then pick him. Draft according to needs. We've overlooked too many in the past.
Oh hell, we need about 10 picks in the top 30 to get our side going again.

Don't upset me, I'd run the prick over if given the chance.
Now back on topic, bullshit, we have drafted plenty of shithouse talls. Hughes didn't discriminate on talls or smalls. As long as they were crap he took them.
