Im from WA and there is no way Marsh should be near this test team. To me he had a massive advantage in getting in this side because of his father's reputation. He has looked clueless against a ''pub like'' Indian bowling attack and it will take him at least 2 seasons to gain consideration for the test team. I think Hughes, Khawjha have overtaken him for the time being.

Im not too sure how well he will fair for the ODI's and T20's this summer as well, as I think his run of scores in tests recently will affect him. He is a player that rides on his confidence and I think if he wants to seriously consider getting back into this side he may have to drop the T20 commitments all together.

Marsh cant and wont keep his spot now - I've been one of his biggest supporters but at some point you need to send someone back to shield cricket to regain form.

That said, many point out his relatively poor first class average. I finally got around to looking at it year by year, as it felt like recent years had been much better. Turns out that is the case, and his average is very much dragged down by being a late bloomer. Missed a heap of games due to injury....a bit of Shane Watson about him in that sense.

(or picked by WA based on reputation/potential, which given the woes of WA over the last decade is not surprising)

07/08 the only impressive season tbh, didn't play enough in 09/10 or 10/11. so he's had 1 good season out of 10. if his last name wasn't marsh he'd never have played a test.

Scary thing about marsh getting picked again after apparently proving himself in one 20/20 innings is that we are going to be facing this now every summer, trying to decide on form test players based on a few over of hit and giggle crap.

the scary thing was, the media in WA were saying the 99 was a great innings and would prepare him well for the Boxing Day test match. Its a shame there werent some shield matches around the same time for players to prove their worth.

Not sure whats wrong with the last couple of seasons - he's missed games due to injury but that is hardly a reason to dismiss the whole season - what it shows is that when he has been fit over the last 4 seasons in the most part he's been pretty good. Certainly that average stands up well.

I remember everyone dismissing Shane Watson has being an option because of his injuries, and he's turned out pretty well once his body has been right.

To be honest I dont think what Marsh has done in his first 5 or so seasons is particularly relevant now in any way, shape or form, yet his first class average is burdened because if it.

And as some of the other posters have said, his surname has helped, but lets not forget it was the initial IPL season that got him noticed, then his time in the ODI team that put him into the frame.

Its funny that everyone was happy with him being the future of the team at #3 during the South African tour but conveniently forget that now he's in a slump. I dont think anyone can argue that the absence of 4 day matches to get his form back after injury have hurt his ability to make runs at test level since.

(and remembering too that I think he should be dropped)

Young guy finding his way while playing every second game on one of the toughest wickets in world cricket. Understandable it might take a little longer.

I still believe he's a huge talent and hope we havent seen the last of him, but if we played a test next week he'd have to be dropped. Hopefully gets confidence back in the ODIs, id still take him on the WI tour starting but obviously shouldn't be a starter unless others are injured.

Was that Karl Langdon? I seem to remember him writing something about Marsh in 'Karl's Toast' recently. If it was, take his opinion with a grain of salt.
