The huddle USED to be very effective, when the opposition had no idea what was going on. They would try to go man on man and they would just get lost in traffic. Now teams wait outside the huddle for it to break, and then pick up a man. The huddle is no longer effective as it doesnt surprise anyone, nor do opponents get lost in traffic.I'll agree with that except I believe the theory of the huddle is fundamentally flawed.
In the end, unless the break's successful you're not going anywhere. You may be able to find a short target, but in breaking, you break with the opposition and practically build their wall across half back for them.
As was the case on Friday, we ended up kicking to a contest unless we perfectly executed the break.
Executing the break is no easy task either.
In this day and age, you've just got to get it in quickly to a man on the move. I'd like to see them work on a strategy of getting a guy back to the goal mouth whenever the opposition have a shot without sacrificing accountability and moving a guy out to a flank.
