"Langdon with a long kick out..."

"Cloke crashes the pack... Greenwood jumps on the loose ball, gets crunched but digs it out to De Goey... who slips a quick handball to Treloar who PUTS ON THE AFTERBURNERS, DASHES THROUGH THE MIDDLE AND FINDS MOORE ON A LONG LEAD."

"He's usually a good set shot. Great technique. Aaaaaannnnnd.... Umpire doesn't have to move. That's 7 goals with 5 from set shots from the young kid."

etc...

EDIT: Notice it's not the usual suspects other than Cloke? That's how good we're going to be this year.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we see the strategy employed from time to time. I recall it was used during the Intraclub to great success, where Cloke pushed up to the half back flank to mark it, then proceeded to bomb it off a couple of steps to Grundy who'd ducked off the back of his man into the 50, gathered and goaled.

Someone who's better at finding this sort of stuff than I am would be able to find video footage of it.

This is not exactly a new idea. The team has done it from time to time since Cloke joined up. It would be a better setup if we had a really long, accurate kick out, but the nearest we have is Goldsack who is not playing.
It is very difficult with modern defensive setups around kick ins for any team to break out after a point. The most successful are the ones that manage to get the kick in quickly enough to beat the defensive setup for time, but if there is any delay at all in getting the ball to the kicker, this is not on.
The current rule, which rushes the kick in and does not allow teams to delay the kick until there is a real target available is a major part of the problem. Perhaps the kick in could be allowed more time, without going back to the excruciating delays that West Coast used to get an option that forced this time restriction in the first place.
Diverting, the rules are not right at the other end of the ground either. The 30 second shot clock is excessive for set shots, but if it is retained, the player should be required to kick over the mark if he exceeds the 7 seconds allowed for a mark anywhere else on the ground. It is unfair to defenders that forwards can take the extra time, and then play on to get additional advantage.
