normally i would agree with you, it is something i thought i would never hear myself say, even in our darker years. but our midfield is pathetic and we really need the picks. i understand there is quality outside the top ten. but it is a higher risk pick. for every good player in the 50-70 range, there would be i reckon 4 duds. we have good players in that range, mundy and crowley were late picks and we have had players like ryan murphy and greg edgcombe who were higher and have done nothing. the dockers i think have had probably the most success out of any team with rookie list, grover, sandilands, crowley just to name a few, but i seriously believe that if we dont recruit quality midfielders in this draft then in three years time we wont have a midfield, we will have a good supply of KPP but a midfield as potent as a 99 year old man. and we know that palmer, masten and morton have a good chance of becoming fantastic, fast midfielders. exactly what we need. one game to lose in return for an exciting midfield in the future? or win and possibly scrape into the 8 and cop a belting, losing one of the young gun midfielders? id take the up and coming midfield thanks

the other thing to remember here is that freo have a poor recruiting record, we need to give ourselves the best odds possible, because phil smart couldnt pick a good player if he had one growing out of his HEY HEY!

Yeah but surely you answer the question in your own post.

You dont think your recruiters can make a decent pick but are willing to sacrifice your teams ethics to put into those same recruiters hands your future.

I am with Andre, tanking (and that is what it is) shouldn't be an option. If the guys are injured and need to be operated on fair enuff but otherwise you should be instilling in the team THAT NO MATTER WHAT, you play to win.

And just because you might get a better draft pick doesn't mena that you will get quality. Fiora, McDougal, Livingstone, Tenace etc were all top 5-7 picks.

having a high pick doesn't guarrantee that you will draft a quality player, with no disrespect meant to any of the kids you have mentioned.

i hate to bring up the wegirls, but how come everyone they pick turns to gold? their later players included other than the odd dud like macdougal, they always seem to unleash a new star, even on the weekend macnamarra looked like a resonable sort, schofield looks promising, i mean this has been happening for years with the eagles and it drives me crazy. i mean look at the early players we have picked in recent years. schammer first round. dunn first round. murphy first pick. edgecombe first pick i dont see that as good recruiting. and as for rookies i sometimes believe that rookies become better prospects because they have more to lose, not necessarily because it was an astute choice by the recruiting manager, but they know they have ONE chance, look what happened to crowley when he got delisted then put on the rookie list, that had nothing to do with smarts good recruiting.

The weagles have had their fair share of dud picks. McDud and Sampi are not alone.

I'd rate our rookie listings as just as good as theirs in the past five or six years as well. Theirs have probably been a more lucky on the injury front on the whole.

If we had recruited and drafted so poorly we would not be so devastated at finishing outside the eight. Our list was rated as capable of winning of flag by almost everyone at the start of the season. If a few things had of went differently this season we could have been right up there in the mix.

The whole great list/bad coach argument seems to have been spun around a little bit lately.
