i heard an interesting discussion on AW on the weekend, with Garry Lyon saying that he would pick David Schwartz to kick for his life.
I don't know about that, but it set me thinking...why would you have kicking for your life????
For me, it would have to be Darren Jarman...the guy is a genius.
So, let's say it's a set shot, 45 out, on the boundary line/ Who do YOU pick to take the kick????

cheers

If you want to be sure, pick Peter Hudson

A few years a go at a family day he beat both Jason Dunstall and his son paul in a kicking contest

If it was like NFL and we had dedicated goal kickers, perhaps Huddo would still be wearing the Brown and Gold

Of the present day players I dont think id feel to confident of any of them taking the shot

Not under your criteria of 45 out on the boundary. And which ground? Sorry being a little to pendantic. I guess if pushed I would go for (maybe a suprise choice) Whitnall. He never seems to miss when he plays against the Hawks and he has great temprament for a still very young player.

If I could take someone from any era it would be either BUCKENARA or Mckenna. Id be happy with either one.

Tony Lockett - end of story

Its his text book technique and uncanny accuracy that marks him as the greatest of full forwards

Blokes gone by ? Malcolm Blight and Peter Hudson

Present blokes ? - Hmmm Scott Cummings is kicking really well at the moment and so is Matty Lloyd. Modra would take the speccy mark in the pocket but would fluff the conversion - pity.

I wouldn't trust any of the current players at all. I think you are all forgetting the great Peter Daicos. He was unbelievable, he never seemed to miss from the boundary. Anyway if i really had to choose a current player, Ben Cousins seems to be pretty accurate, though his general field kicking in soem games is woeful. But he doesn't seem to miss many set shots.

an interesting little story, seeing as someone mentioned NFL kickers. One guy Gary Andersen from Minesota, hadnt missed an attempt in two years, and when kicking to assure his side a superbowl berth, he missed fractionally, allowing the other team Atlanta to win in overtime.what a tool Gary.
So I wouldnt have anyone kicking for life, unless maybe it was plugger, and he was allowed to kick a point to save me.
hehehe.

A player called Derek Wirth.Used to play with the Lions, now with Redlands in the QLd AFl. Dead eye dick that guy.

I wouldn't have a Rocca kick for me - even after Anthony's heroics.

I couldn't watch, I was sure he'd spray it.

Maybe he's finally maturing.

From the past - I've heard Peter McKenna hit a pole from 40 metres away when asked to at a tv interview one time - that seems pretty accurate.

Peter Daicos would be a good choice.

Or of course Lockett.

Any of McKenna, Daicos or Lockett

could I get all three to have a kick and so long as one of them got it?

Maybe I'd take the shot myself... wouldn't mind having my life in my own hands

Ummm, Bloodstained Angel, that was eagles_rule, not me..... maybe I oughta register.

Im sure Daicos was good, but I never saw him play. From the video footage they show, he seemed better at the flukey on-the-run soccery goals than set shots. Is that right?

But after Lockett kicked his 1300th under all that pressure, I'd have to pick him. Of course Scotty was ON FIRE on the weekend, 14 goals 1 behind! What a conversion rate.... He'll probably blow it this week....

Plugger most probably although cummings on the weekend was awesome, and if were talking all time Daicos. Eagles_rule: i agree Cousins is usually pretty acurate with set shots but i dont know about 45 out on the boundary. Final Answer Tony Lockett, the last guy id pick...well Peter Sumich of course

Just on Daicos taking a kick for your life, only if he were on the run and allowed to grub it for the distance. Yeah then no problem. If he had to kick over the mark then no way.
Bucky for me from a snap shot and Mckenna from a set shot with a man standing the mark.

I think a few of you are forgetting several great torpedo's Daicos can kick... in 1992 he goaled from 70 against the hawks. And I have several highlights of him easily kicking them from 50. So I'm not sure why you doubt his distance.

Eagle Fan - you'd probably get that impression of Daicos cause that is what normally gets on the highlights tape. Stuff like that awesome 1990 goal vs Wesat Coast in the final... banana on the boundary facing the wrong way... still don't know how he got it.

To be truthful, I'd probably choose Lockett. But I have never seen Daicos miss a set shot in his entire career.

45 out, on the boundary:

Set shot - Plugger for sure
On the run - Jarman or (I hate to say this, cough Bewick cough!!!!)

55 out dead in front:

Set shot - Craig Scholl
On the run - Nathan Buckley

75 out on the run - anyone but Clint Bizzel -he sprays them all over the place(luckily!!!)

Cheers

Gonzo
