One thing I noticed last night is that our wish seemed to be granted with our mids looking to spot up other options in the forward line and not relying on Hall. MOL is on fire at the moment and the players looked to both him and ROK on several occasions when Hall was being double teamed. Henry worked hard and apart from another appalling shot on goal he presented well and showed a slick pair of hands when dishing off to team mates.

yeeah very truee
we just kept on refusing the saits attack/forwards, came out with the ball
and pumped it long towards the centrehalf forward line or just behind that
so we could get it into the full forward zone
a great comeback from bazz
dont think it was such a spectacular win
but very solid from most players

speaking of forwards i don't think playfair is doing enough, as mentioned shocking kick for goal, could not even outmark gwilt on a couple of occasions effort i always there but i think against top sides he will be found out

Scoring goals is not Playfair's primary function. He is there to provide a contest and hold up the ball until reinforcements come. Sure he didnt score a goal yesterday but from memory he setup atleast 2 goals and generally wasnt bad. Playfair will stay in the team as his work off the ball is rather good and he adds to the forward lines structure.

If Nick Davis starts performing better who knows what will happen but for now im perfectly happy for Playfair to be in the team.

fair enough i just think for a big bloke he's got to take more one on one marks and apart from his goalkicking his field kicks to a leading player were terrible but while things are good he'll stay in the side so long as his workrate continues

Baz was playing up the ground a lot more when the ball wasn't coming to the forward 50 as easily, as well.

I loved that the goal kicking was shared around even though we had our main forward back, one more step forward would be to occassionaly kick the 50/50 or 40/60 goals and really take the game by the bootstraps. Nick would be the first person to look at in that type of situation, but Playfair's defensive pressure is fantastic.

If Nick puts the 110% effort into the defensive pressure facet of his game he undoubtedly had in 05 at least, we'd have the whole package. It may not be until next year or late season when the important games stare us in the face that we'll need to introduce a reliable goal kicking - not just defensive - forward to keep the forward momentum.

Scoring goals isn't a forward's primary function? ____ me:confused:

He is in the team to score goals, and wont get away with too many perfomances like that. Yes her provides a target and brings the ball to ground etc etc, but surely no one could suggest it's his "primary function".

Wasn't he playing CHB at Geelong for quite a while? Maybe that's where he gets his defensive capability + lack of aptitude for a shot at goal. His primary function to me seems to heap pressure onto defenders and the ball and provide the ball to others after he gets the ball - he has got clean hands.

This is the AFL, not Auskick

He is a woeful player. I will concede his size is handy for when one of Hall or MOL get injured/suspended but he isnt close to being in our best 22. With Hall back, MOL and Ryan Okeefe firing we do not need his size in the forward line.

We definatley dont need players who cant kick goals playing in the forward line. Davis can provide contests and is worth a couple of goals each game. Playfair is a passenger.
