If Jackson Paine could have an effect on our team, in anyway similar to what Jack Darling did for the Eagles, given they appear very similar in size and role they play, we will be very happy.

Hartley is going to be a good player. He has 'the' tools.

The biggest positive last game was Rounds. He has put on size and looked very assured. There has certainly been a position or two opened up with the Krak & Caff injuries and he is now a really good chance to step up & take that opportunity.

I think its harsh comparing him to jack darling so much so early.

No doubt darling was a much superior player when he walked into the eagles compared to when paine joined us. I think Darling went at 16, but could of gone much higher if it wasnt for off field problems.

Also as a 17 year old Darling Dominated the u-18 champs and was seen as a Potential Number 1 Pick the next year but the Following season he did not Dominate and His Height was Brought into Question as he was not tall enough for KPP. Then he misbehaved off-field and looked like he could be Trouble.

So 2010 Eagles took him with one of there Priority Picks for having a Bad Season and Drafted him at 26.

Where Paine really just played in the ASP and Bit in the TAC Cup and Played 2nd Fiddle to Patton in U-18 Champs. A lot like Dawes

Buckley will not play Sinclair for the simple reason that Buckley is a perfectionist and Sinclair just does not kick the ball well.
Unfortunitely that is just how it is.

I'm all for playing Paine as of round 1.

In all honesty, I see more of a decent foundation in the current crop consisting of:

Witts
Ceglar
Yagmoore
Williams
Paine
Hartley
Fasolo
Ugle

than I did in the overall crop consisting of

Dawes
Reid
Brown
Wellingham
Cloke
Thomas
Pendlebury (excpetion, knew he'd be the best player in the league eventually from day one)
Goldsack

So take that as you will, because the older crop ended up in a premiership team. These kids look like they could make up a nice foundation to be honest.

Paine looks like he can be quality. The young Jonathan Brown comparison from a game sense point of view is certainly there. One touch contested mark, split pack ability looks like he will be a player. The player I'm most excited about from our new bunch.

Hartley is another. Great size, kicking looked very good too, just has the tools to be a quality key back. Really liked what I saw of him.

Rounds looks most comfortable forward. Thought he showed the kind of vfl form of a couple of seasons ago where he was dangerous as a forward. Seems to have sized up too.

Young worries me too. Seems to take too long to release the ball, constantly fumbles under the hint of any pressure and he did pull up in one contest where he should have and could have won the footy in the centre square. I'm worried about him. He is like a deer in the headlights at the moment.

The one player I just cannot see making it is Sinclair. He is quick and works hard but his disposal and decision making is woeful. No spot in the side under those circumstances.

Bizarre comment.

There is not 1 player in your top group who will get anywhere near the level of Pendlebury, Thomas, Reid or Cloke. Could possibly throw in Wellingham and Brown as well.

maybe because they are not Top Draft Picks

Dont write off witts and fasolo as becoming a grade players. Yagmoor has a chance as well. But on the whole deffinitly not the standard as thomas pendles ect

Strongly disagree.

That group from the 2005/06 drafts are fantastic in:
Dale Thomas, Scott Pendlebury, Ben Reid, Nathan Brown, Chris Dawes, Sharrod Wellingham, Brent Macaffer, Tyson Goldsack. We won a premiership with this group and largely because of this group.

The last two years we have mostly drafted using late selections and done so in compromised drafts. We have done well considering where we have drafted but none the less this group mostly project as depth only in:
Ben Sinclair, Josh Thomas, Tom Young, Kirk Ugle, Jamie Elliott, Jackson Paine, Peter Yagmoor (if 2-3 of these develop then that is a BIG win but I don't see it)

The main exceptions who I think will make it are: Alex Fasolo and Paul Seedsman. Then the rucks are more wait and see in Jarrod Witts, Corey Gault and Jonathan Ceglar because as 18,19,20 you just don't know what the guy is going to be able to do as a 24 year old.

Have not seen the match could you tell me how he went in the ruck, sounded like he went alright last week did he drop off much this week.

Had only small stints in the ruck against McKernan and broke even.

He showed alot, he is strong in his marking but for some reason his kicks for goal were shanks, don't look into it too much though.

His running impressed me. He moved well and at one point ran between kicks and didn't look like a lumbering ruckman.

Liked the look of Billy Elliott. Just moved like an AFL player. Speed, defensive pressure, marking and nice kicking. I think he busted his nose and got replaced.

Mooney surprised me early. The way he kicks a sherrin is a true credit to him and the clubs development. The kid has played, what, 3 games of Aussie rules.

Seeds did some nice stuff early too but looks to lean to play a meaningful role this year.

Thank you for that summary mate,This is his 2nd year in the system and he was the steak knives in the deal for Krakoure,it is good to know he is not going too badly it is a long while since the monkey.:thumbsu:

Great post. I have been on this site for 10 years and this post made me join. Pendles, Reid and Cloke are all Australian and will be legends of this club if they all stay (which I think they will). Thomas is not far behind. Brown, wellers, dawes and Goldy all have premiership rings and have massive potential.

The last thing I want to say, with a lot of negativity around at the moment, is that our current list is on the verge of something special. I have no doubt that in 5 to 10 years this pies side will be known as one of the greatest sides of all time. Massive call but I honestly believe it

Cheers

Negativity from who?

People like blessed to name one. If u read what has been written tonight, it is like we have just received the wooden spoon

Thats usual the night after a loss particularly a heavy one. I find the best posts come out the next day when people have calmed down and sobered up.
