A reign of terror marked the relationship between notorious UK child killers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady, newly-released papers reveal.

Lovers Hindley and Brady – known as the ‘Moors Murderers’ - killed five children in north-west England between July 1963 and October 1965.

They lured their victims – aged between 10 and 17 – to their home in Manchester before they were sexually tortured and later buried them on Saddleworth Moor, near the city.

Documents written by Hindley and handed to lawyers just before her death in 2002 describe how Brady subjected her to violent abuse.

The papers formed part of an appeal to shorten her life sentence – a move which prompted Brady to write to the UK Home Office in an attempt to thwart her efforts.

He said the couple were “a unified force, not two conflicting entities”.

Many years ago, but not long after the Birnies had been put away, a friend's older brother took us fishing in Freo. Later that night driving home down Leach Highway with us in the back of his ute he turned right into North Lake Road then right again into Willagee, and we ended up in front of a house that was iirc sort of behind that new multistory hospice facility on the corner of NL Road / Leach Hwy. We were 15 - 16 or so at the time and had no idea where he was taking us and then he says "that's where the Birnies lived and did their business..."

The author who spent time with Cathie says she has no remorse or shame and that what she did with David is what defines her. That the only time she's animated is talking about murder. Cathie for her own amusement and in self importance was probably just hoping someone was copying her and David.

I think Cathy had been obsessed with it for a long long time. Totally agree, self important. Too stupid to achieve anything so killed some people for notoriety. For the most part, most of the people have forgotten her. The generations on don't even know her.

I won't be surprised if Cathy hung with like minded people. They had been to prison already.

Very interesting. The Candy's were Hollywood High kids? The Spiers were Iona kids.

The Birnies lived south the river but the vast majority of abductions were Stirling highway and one other Canning Highway.

I was told by a public servant, they were warned about a list found after the arrest of the Birnies. It had their receptionists name on it. Security policy change followed.

Noelene was abducted from Canning Highway Bicton not far from her home base.
