Got it today from Game for $178 and I think that is the cheapest out there?

Grabbed Kinect Sports to go with the bundled game. Found the main menus easy to use, both sitting in my chair and standing. Facial recognition works perfectly.

Played my first Live game of Kinect. Playing Kinect Sports with a friend from the US have to say worked perfectly. The soccer is alot more fun against a real opponent.

Volleyball was a little disappointing, as whoever served just needed to do a power serve and you pretty much win 9/10 as it's hard to defend.

Also there is for free new mini games to download, these mini games are pretty much wii sports\wii fit.

The goal kicking game is similar to the soccer kicking game in wii fit

A Microsoft spokesperson clarified to IGN the 8 million unit figure is shipped to retailers, not sold to customers.

It's about 5 million sold as far as I can find out.

At 5.42mil. Give or take some here and there.

MS had 5mil as their target so it's not exactly a hit out of the ballpark or anything, they expected exactly what they got.

PS Move as a comparison point would be close to, if not over the 5mil mark as well.

The tech has absolutely nothing to do with it. The half a billion dollars on marketing might...their money to spend.

What extra console growth has their been? PS3 is still pushing ahead everywhere outside one country, sure Sony are trying to breach that but they're closer than they have ever been overall.

Overall the big 2 are still FAR behind the behemoth. God forbid Nintendo decide that HD might be a worthy option.

Over 5 mil in 2 months is still damn impressive. Microsoft initially predicted less than that IIRC and then came out with the 5 million figure when they saw it selling so well. I thought they would get close, but didn't expect them to exceed it.

2010 was the best year in terms of sales of the 360 and, considering the age of the console, that is a pretty great achievement.

Of course, sales are one thing, quality games for real gamers is another.

Hasn't Move only sold something like 1 mil or something incredibly low? Kind of pathetic, especially compared to Kinect. You're right about the revival, unless PS4 becomes another PS2 I can see Sony dropping out of the console business just like Sega, Atari etc. Do Sony still lose money on each console sold?

Sony and Microsoft's foray into the console business has always been about taking over the living room as the television screen becomes the new PC.

Kinect tech will be EVERYWHERE in the coming years

there is a reason that Microsoft has been buying up significant stakes in infrared camera companies as soon as they pop up..... they have probably already shored up most of the patents on the tech.

and a couple of hundred mill from previous generations sales. Sony aint going anywhere anytime soon, sure the way the PS3 has been handled has been poor (making a good comeback despite the fail launch and IMO caters to the hardcore more than 360, 2011 year of kinect "games" LOL) but people forget how much Sony curb stomped the competition with the PS1 and PS2, you think they'd make the same mistakes with their next console?

tbh Live is bad for gaming, next gen we could see all 3 with a pay to play service, if that happens i'm spending my money on upgrading the PC and playing online the way its meant to be....free.

Nintendo also passed on the Kinect technology. i'd trust Nintendo before any other game company and by the looks of the crappy so called "games" on Kinect, Nintendo did well to pass on eyetoy 2.0

Motion controlling targets the wrong audience, casuals are enjoying the fad at the moment but they'll soon move onto the next thing because thats what a casual does. The Kinect focus for 2011 may backfire and lose MS alot of the core base that got them in the position they are in today IMO.

Kinect absolutely dominates the Move when it comes to sales figures

I would take a rough guess and say that i sell at least 8 Kinects for every 1 Move bundle

Even pre order numbers had the Kinect so far in front it wasn't funny

Also, anyone claiming that Kinect is "Eyetoy 2.0" is a fool, who has never used the tech. Its quite impressive

In terms of everyone in this thread saying that x360 is going to destroy 360, my recent experience is the opposite.

#1, the 4gb x360 bundle is absurd. Why even release this, it really pulls the wool over the customer's eyes when it takes 3gig to even install the software.

#2 I worked a mere like.... 12 hours? at JB over christmas... sold around 16 ps3s in 12 hours work, sold 2 x360s. Obviously this isn't a big sample size but it's my experience. Bit early to write the ps3's epitaph.
